February 25Feb 25 Author comment_1787843 #Bengals exec Duke Tobin says he's optimistic they can keep Tee Higgins and his preference is to do a long-term deal. He also said Ja'Marr Chase will be the highest-paid non-QB in the NFL once he gets his deal."We are not trying to insult anybody." pic.twitter.com/4XRCoTIVAn— Ari Meirov (@MySportsUpdate) February 25, 2025
February 26Feb 26 comment_1787873 Duke knows that Burrow is the one who holds the power. Give him what he asks for.

Hence the phrase "no cap" to mean "I'm telling the truth". In the context of the Bengals, hopefully Tee isn't basically saying that Duke is lying in his press conference.

So he's responding to someone saying they are lying. No idea who. I don't think it's Tobin because his mom said the other week that her "cheap asses" tweet wasn't about the Bengals.
February 26Feb 26 comment_1787915 I think he's replying to Duke. Last year the Bengals tagged Tee but didn't offer him a multi-year deal. This year Tobin is saying they will get it done. Maybe.
February 26Feb 26 comment_1787931 ^ I think it's more likely they extend Ja'Marr and Tee than Trey. Of the big 3 I think Trey is the most likely to be traded.
February 26Feb 26 comment_1787932 Trey has the least amount of leverage as he's under contract next year for a cheap rate. I could see the Bengals telling him he has to play it out if he asks for something huge like 35 mill a year.

The other variable is the change in defensive coordinators…with a possible change to a 4-3 base instead of a 5-2. Will Trey be less effective in that alignment (I’m thinking, “yes”)? It might make a lot of sense to trade him…depending, of course, on what might be offered in exchange.

He can pump up the idea of retaining them with hopes the front office doing their due diligence to make it happen. Katy is much aware of this. Do it.....

Sounds like they are furthest from a new deal with Trey. The team is pretty fearful of making substantial spending commitments, even for proven players. If they were better at structuring contracts, they could get out of them without significant damage after a year or two.
February 28Feb 28 comment_1788089 My prediction right now would be that the Bengals extend Ja'Marr and Tee and tell Trey his price is too high, so he will have to play out his last year. I then could see Trey saying he will just not play at all then. I hope I'm wrong though.
March 1Mar 1 comment_1788096 I could see Trey asking for a trade and the team agreeing. But this is a good draft for DEs so the trade compensation might not be a lot. We could probably get a 2nd and maybe us it on Ashton Gilotte or Princely Umamielen or similar players. Unless we sign Josh Sweat, that would be a poor exchange for us.
March 3Mar 3 comment_1788231 Random thought... They should get Tee's contract done before the tag deadline, just so they can transition tag Gesicki.
March 3Mar 3 comment_1788258 Tee's agent probably won't let him sign an extension before he's tagged. It would be a disservice to Tee. So tomorrow he gets tagged, then hopefully he's signed in the next week.

Yeah it allows other teams to make offers that Tee can use to ask the Bengals for, better for him to do that, better for the Bengals to get it done now so they arent fighting with other teams offers.
March 3Mar 3 comment_1788264 Players can only be tagged 3 times in their careers. A 3rd tag requires paying the highest franchise tag number, ie the QB level, so for other positions it's a max of 2 tags. So Arceneaux should wait until Tee is tagged before negotiating an extension. That will ensure Tee is truly free once his next contract expires. He could wait until the legal tampering period begins to see what other teams are offering. But Tee supposedly wants to stay in Cincinnati and the team wants to sign him. It should be easy enough to agree to a 3 or 4 year deal that averages more than the 26 mil tag number and has half the money guaranteed at signing.
