MichaelWeston Posted February 20 Report Posted February 20 I think this gets its own thread but I am fine either way. Here is my offense so far QB-Add a veteran with some upside who we can maybe stash on the PS this year, Browning will likely be gone next year. I chose Ridder because of his ties to UC and Louisville but this is a crapshoot. Additionally, add a UDFA RB-Kept Moss around for camp, re-signed Herbert on vet Minimum, and then added Ameer Abdullah. Abdullah has a scrimmage upside and can willingly play on teams. Add 2 UDFAs in the deepest RB draft that I can remember. Likely it's a competition between Moss and Herbert for the backup role. Abdullah is #3. Third back is a battle between Milton, Brightwell (he's still decently young) and UDFAs. Could see a DP here but probably unwise with how many backs there are in this draft and how few picks we have. WR-Higgins is back on a long-term deal. Noah Brown signed as the 4th WR on a vet min deal. Fehoko signed two a 2 year 5M deal with some upside. Last position roster spot battle between Jones and Williams. Could replace Fehoko with a DP TE-Re-upp Gesicki for 5-7M per 2 years. Draft someone who can block and pass catch. Do it All. Add 2 UDFAs from a deep TE draft. OL-Sign Scherff at RG for what is likely a lower deal so he can finish his career here. Maybe 6-10M. Sign Evan Brown for 3 years in the 8-11M range to play LG. Sign Kendrick Lamm who played for Peters already for near league Minimum to be the swing tackle. re-sign ford for near league Min. 2 UDFAs Teams-Re-sign York at league min, Give Adomitis a 2 year deal. QB Burrow 29 Browning 26 Ridder 26 UDFA 4 RB Brown 27 Moss 26 Herbert 25 Abdullah 26 Milton 26 Brightwell UDFA UDFA 8 WR Chase 26 Brown 26 Pryor Burgess 4 WR Higgins 25 Fehoko 27 Tinsley UDFA 4 WR Iosivas 27 Williams 27 Jones 27 UDFA 4 TE Gesicki 25 Sample 27 Draft Pick Grandy 26 McClachlan 28 UDFA UDFA All 28 7 LT Brown 27 Lamm 26 Cochran 26 3 LG Brown 28 Kirkland 25 UDFA 3 C Karras 26 Lee 28 UDFA 3 RG Scherff 26 Volson 26 Steuber 26 Manning 4 RT Mims 29 Ford 25 Coker 3 K McPherson 28 York 25 2 P Rehkow 27 1 LS Adomitis 25 1 Quote
Gary Posted February 20 Report Posted February 20 DEFENSE, and more DEFENSE. I am so mad that we wasted the best QBs best season so far. I am afraid that Burrow will want to leave if we don't fix things, and I do not trust in the ownership to even want to spend money, even though (Thanks to the Sacramento Kings sale) professional teams have like tripled in value over the past 10 years. It all started with the bidding war for the Sac Kings. Quote
sparky151 Posted February 20 Report Posted February 20 For the offense, I want the team to re-sign Higgins, Gesicki, and Ford. We should look to add a couple of guards in free agency as the position is well stocked this year. We can afford to pay up for Jenkins and Scherff or Zeitler. A swing tackle would be useful too and maybe a cheap RB. We should be set at QB, WR, TE, C, and OT. Use a draft pick for a TB and possibly a C/G. We'll have plenty of money and draft picks to throw at the defense. It's just a matter of who we get and whether Golden can put the pieces together into a coherent defense. If we can get to 17th in stats like 3rd down conversion, redzone TD % allowed, takeaways, and yards allowed per rush or pass, then we should be a playoff team next year. Quote

With the new cap jumping and releases they can sign Trey, Tee and Chase and with more to spend on holes as well. If Katy plays this right we could have a SB contender this year. 2 Quote

T-Dub Posted February 20 Report Posted February 20 Fire Tobin, promote Trey Brown and give him the authority to shape the roster. No "redeeming", no "smiles a lot", no "shows up for photo ops" and no "can't just go to WalMart" or saving for a rainy day excuses. The annual cap increase alone will cover Tee's franchise tag, time to give it up with the yearly offseason Hobson Math poor-mouthing. No other goal than putting together the best 53 football players they can get. That's it, that's the job. Of course this isn't going to happen but it really, really should. 3 Quote

It's good for players who are free agents this year but it's still a weak class. Maybe it makes the cap hit on a trade more tolerable and we see a few more trades. 1 Quote
Inigo Montoya Posted February 21 Report Posted February 21 I looked back at the last 5 seasons of free agent signings since Burrow was drafted. Not a complete list but the most notable names. Obviously there are plenty of hits and misses. Hard to deny the trend has been going in the wrong direction. 2020 DJ Reader Trae Waynes Vonn Bell Xavier Su’a-Filo Josh Bynes Mike Daniels 2021 Trey Hendrickson Mike Hilton Chidobe Awuzie Reilly Reiff Larry Ogunjobi Eli Apple BJ Hill (via trade) 2022 Alex Cappa Ted Karras La’el Collins Hayden Hurst 2023 Orlando Brown Cody Ford Nick Scott Irv Smith 2024 Geno Stone Sheldon Rankins Mike Gesicki Trent Brown Zack Moss 3 Quote

Cap raise and alot of if releases can secure all the prime players we have plus extra filling in the holes we have. Sign them .. Get to the SB Times a wastin. . 1 Quote

It's pretty significant in removing their excuse to not retain what little game-changing talent is left on the roster. In an ideal world Burton would look like the next man up & they could move Higgins to buy some help in the trenches, but this ain't that. Retain the guys that make the offense go - I'll even admit Gesicki should probably be counted among them even though I hate the idea of blocking being optional for anybody other than Burrow or our kickers. 1 Quote
sparky151 Posted February 22 Report Posted February 22 The public no longer is fooled by poor mouthing from Hobson or Tobin. Everyone knows the team has the resources to keep Chase, Higgins, and Hendrickson plus add a bunch of other free agents to patch holes. There have been lots of media pieces to the effect that this is the biggest offseason in franchise history. We'll see if Duke and Katie can come through or not. 1 Quote
Jamie_B Posted February 23 Report Posted February 23 In FA Resign Trey, Tee, Jamar, maybe Mike G at the right price. Other team FAs DJ Reed Chase Young Dre Greenlaw Two guys outside of the Bengals typical age range at G Brandon Schef Zach Martin Leaves us a DT needing a 3rd DT but I don't care for any of the guys in FA at that position. This is largely 2nd tier guys outside out own. The Bengals can afford this. Then go BPA, try to get a DE a DT and at least one G if not 2. Maybe even a S. Quote

Just saw in the other thread that Martin is going to retire, also read elsewhere Scherff would be about a $14M dead cap hit for Jax because of a contract restructure so I assume they're going to try to extend him. The team should re-sign Tee, Gesicki, Ford, Kirkland if he's not yet re-signed, and Bachie or ADG. Let Bell, Hilton, Hill, Ossai, Evans leave. We should sign a couple of veteran guards, at least 1 of them to a 2 or 3 year deal and not draft a guard this season. We don't want a rookie starting in front of Burrow and we only have 6 picks with a defense to make over. So let's sign say Teven Jenkins for 3 or 4 years, plus Scherff for a couple. I'll co-sign adding Greenlaw, he'd be a major upgrade from Pratt but he'll likely only sign a 1 year prove-it deal. That's fine. Chase Young would be ok, not sold on DJ Reed. We should sign some veteran DTs. Tart, Ford, Campbell, or Lopez would be good adds. Ford and Campbell can play stronside DE on running downs if needed as neither Young nor Murphy are much in run defense. 14 hours ago, T-Dub said: I don't quite get it either but apparently something with how they chose to restructure a previous extension, void years & such.. If he does re-sign with Jacksonville before the start of the 2025 league year on March 14, they can avoid his void years all piling into 2025. He currently has money from a prorated signing bonus allocated to 2025 and beyond. If they resign him, it will stay there. If not, it will all amortize as dead money in 2025. 1 hour ago, Jamie_B said: Im only suggesting both G's get 1 year deals at the same time drafting two more so we're not forced to start rookies. This isn't an especially good draft group for interior linemen. We should sign 2 vet starters and not put them on 1 year deals, though Zeitler could reasonably retire at the end of any season. Quote
