Palmer Injury Update...

Recommended Posts

I've never heard of a football teams medical staff being questioned other than the Bengals. Makes me wonder what the fuck is going on with that. Carson also got his knee worked on by someone other than the Bengals peeps. Man, this team needs some cleaning up starting from the top but I'm not getting into that whole debate. It's a fucking game and I leave it at that

Meh, lots of players see Dr. James Andrews down in Birmingham all the time.

it wouldn't matter if they shelved him

we're not going to win more than like 3 games regardless and even when he did play we weren't winning, although we were much better on offense, ie the giants and cowboys game

get healthy, get a high draft pick, improve the LBs, and improve this shitty oline and shitty running game

True, but to here all the complaints about the Bengals Med. staff makes it seem that some major reconstructive shit needs to be done

Tough to argue that. Laundry list of players who had injuries that took way too long to return from and when they came back, seemed to still have major issues staying healthy.

I said it 2 weeks ago, and know I am not happy I called.

I wouldnt be surprised if he needs it
as I understand it, sitting him has been exactly to prevent that. He won't need that unless something tears. The rest has been to prevent that tear.

I don't think it's something to get worked up over about him getting a second opinion. This is an injury that happens often with baseball pitchers (and not that often with QB's), and he's seeing a doctor from a baseball team. Makes perfect sense.

I agree with a previous poster.
This is beginning to smell a lot like Peter Warrick.

Actually, I think a player sued and won against a Jaguars team doctor a few years ago.

how many teams do you follow closely enough to read their post game and beat writers stories to get these tidbits?

none for me...

i hear often of players flying to place X or place Y to get looked at again. or by another specialist on ESPN.. i dont care enough to pay much attention tho..

Palmer traveled quite a distance when he had his knee injury too didn't he? I don't recall where but for some reason I'm thinking he went down South somewhere. I know it wasn't the Cincinnati medical staff. Some players have their individuals favorites. Seems as though Carson realizes how important football is to him, has the money, and seeks out the absolute best possible help that he can get.
Palmer stays in New York to get second opinion
QB will have his inflamed elbow examined today by the New York Mets' team physician.
By Chick Ludwig

Staff Writer

Monday, October 13, 2008

EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. — Bengals team doctors wouldn't clear quarterback Carson Palmer to play with an inflamed right elbow on Sunday, Oct. 12.

Palmer hopes to get a more positive evaluation from Dr. David Altchek, the New York Mets team physician who will examine Palmer today.

"It was my decision to get a second opinion and have someone else look at it other than our doctors," Palmer said after the Bengals' 26-14 loss to the New York Jets. "Hopefully, he'll have a different opinion and say it looks a lot better and I'll be able to play."

Palmer, originally injured on a first-quarter sack against the New York Giants on Sept. 21, didn't play for the second time in three weeks. He also sat out the Cleveland game (Sept. 28).

He spent Sunday on the sidelines — not in uniform — as one of the club's eight inactive players. Teams can only activate 45 players from the 53-man roster on game days. All he felt was frustration as he watched the Bengals fall to 0-6.

"I'm going to stay here and see the doctor first thing in the morning," Palmer said. "I'm going to the supposed best elbow guy (doctor), one who worked on a bunch of Major League pitchers.

"It's a big concern of mine to get out there and play. It's a concern of mine if I have to sit on the sideline and watch. I'm not used to doing that. It's not my concern whether my injury is season-ending or not. I was told it would get better after about a month, and every day it's gotten better, so that's a good thing.

"Hopefully, it got better over the last week. I'll play when they give me clearance to play."

The Bengals generated only 171 yards of offense and 13 first downs — three rushing. Quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick's 1-yard TD plunge pulled Cincinnati within 17-14 at halftime, but the Bengals were shut out in the second half.

"It's especially tough to watch as an offensive guy when your defense plays the way it does," Palmer said. "They were giving us turnovers (two interceptions and a fumble return for a TD). Offensively, we just kept our defense on the field way too long and it wore them out.

"When you don't have a running game, it doesn't open up the passing attack and it makes it especially hard on Ryan. It's also demoralizing offensively. When you can't put the points up to help your defense out, it makes it tough."
So if I've boiled down the thread conversations from the past 36 hours:

Shut down Carson for the season.
Trade Chad to the Cowboys for a First and a Third.
Bench Perry in favor of Benson.
Put as many rookies on the gameday roster as possible.
Fire Brat, and elevate Zampese (or something like that).
Send Mike Brown and Eric Ghiaciuc to a Turkish prison to watch movies about gladiators while Scraps rubs up and down their legs.

Do I have this right?

[edit]Draft a Center, DT, and RB in the first round of next year's draft... preferably all with top ten picks.

:winky: Sounds good to me....

I don't think the Turkish prison would take Mike Brown though...he would run it into the ground.

Carson update: Won't play Sunday
Carson Palmer met with the elbow specialist in NY today. The doctor recommened a "further conservative approach". Ryan Fitzpatrick will start vs Pittsburgh on Sunday. Marvin said he will talk with Carson face to face later and see how he feels.

Other Marvin stuff:
Offense: "We had a lot of discussion about the offense this morning. We need to lean more on our guys outside"
Kenny Watson: "He had a good week of practice....we will look at everything....everything is on the table. We need a spark"
On Fitz: "He did things a lot better than a couple of weeks ago....we still need 100% ball security"
Is Fitz further ahead than Jordan Palmer?: "Yes"
Frustrated fans: "I'm 100% responsible. I'm sorry for their disappointment. Hang on.....you can see something special here."

I a bag of mixed emotions with this team. However, I do think we have something to look forward to (not this year obviously) going forward. The defense is much better than in the past. We need something from the D line and I'd like more talent at the LB level. I want a mean S.O.B. at MLB. We have talent at WR. RB position scares me. We have Carson. This team is almost there. Keep in mind, since we will have the worst record in the AFC North, we should have a slight more favorable schedule next year than our counterparts, theoretically speaking of course.

As far as hanging in there. I'm hanging Marvin, just don't hang me out to dry.
