Report: Tomlin concerned about QB

ESPN.com news services

Pittsburgh Steelers coach Mike Tomlin isn't hiding his anxiety about the sexual-assault allegation against quarterback Ben Roethlisberger.

"I'm highly concerned for our franchise and for Ben personally," Tomlin told the NFL Network after arriving in Orlando, Fla., on Saturday for the NFL meetings, which start Monday.

Roethlisberger

The police in Milledgeville, Ga., are still investigating a 20-year-old female college student's accusation against Roethlisberger.

"My concerns are many," Tomlin said, "but I think at this time it's kind of appropriate to watch these things and let these things run their course. I think it would be inappropriate for me to have strong feelings one way or another with the investigation being ongoing and so forth. Like everyone else, you watch these things unfold."

The woman accused Roethlisberger, 28, of sexually assaulting her in a Georgia nightclub earlier this month.

Roethlisberger also faces a lawsuit filed last July by a woman who says he raped her in 2008 at a Lake Tahoe hotel and casino, an allegation he strongly denies.

Roethlisberger, who was not in custody, has not been criminally charged in either case and has claimed counter-damages in the lawsuit.
Cornwell says Roethlisberger "looks forward" to meeting with Goodell
Posted by Mike Florio on March 22, 2010 7:40 PM ET

In response to Commissioner Roger Goodell's comments from earlier in the day regarding the sexual assault allegations made against Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger, lawyer David Cornwell has issued the following statement.

"I contacted the League as soon as the recent allegations were made against Ben," Cornwell said. "We agreed that I would keep the NFL apprised of all developments as they warrant. I believe the Commissioner will allow us to focus on matters in Georgia, but we look forward to meeting with him and addressing any concerns he may have."

In unrelated news, Roethlisberger eagerly anticipates a root canal, can't wait for a colonoscopy, and loses sleep anticipating the mechanical removal of his first real kidney stone.

In all (some) seriousness, it's encouraging that Roethlisberger, through Cornwell, is keeping the league office informed. But the remarks from Goodell were as pointed as they were brief. Big Ben is in big trouble, not just with the powers-that-be in Georgia, but with his employer.

If he hasn't gotten the message, then he never will.

Ahhh, yeah. So there's that...

That could explain how "she slipped and hurt her head". If a girl is giving me a blowjob and she starts pissing on me I could see where you would throw her off your cock and then she slips on said piss and hurts said head.

Here's another "Goodell wants to meet with Roethlisberger" story link from ESPN:

Linky: http://m.espn.go.com/nfl/story?storyId=5018837&top

Of course, I note that Der Kommisar hasn't mentioned _when_ he will summon Roethlisberger to New York. Unlike others who got the call immediately upon the _allegation_ of wrongdoing (see: Vick, Thurman, etc) the Washington & Jefferson alum seems to be willing to wait to see if this goes away first. Maybe Roger just wants some dating tips or an autograph?

Its heating up.

I tell you, ...the Stoolers have a large fan base of women and I can see Jen getting pushed out because of his actions and the rumors from women in the Miami area. He's got two women going after him now and he's got other women saying he is a known creep. Plus his general actions while being on the team and the "make a wish" fiasco. It all adds up into one big stink of a human being and a mess for the team.

I can't believe the Stoolers were able to hide that make a wish fiasco for so long, ...that's impressive.

I hadn't heard of the Make-a-Wish "fiasco", but a little Googling brought me to this page. Don't know if this is new or old - can't find a date/timestamp - but it's a funny read:
One Of Ben Roethlisberger's "Bitches" Speaks Up

Ben Roethlisberger's still getting hassled over that innocent Thursday night of bar hopping in Milledgeville, Ga. and now there are more people willing to say damning things about him since he's apparently not very nice to everyone.

First, a scrappy reporter at the KDKA news station loitered around Capital City on Thursday and snared himself a young girl ( who does not want to be identified) heading into the bar where (allegedly) some sort of head-bumping sexual conduct occurred. This bra-burner of a young lady did not think Big Ben was very gentlemanly to the women he had his policeman entourage corral back into his VIP area:

He bought a round of shots for girls and said, 'All you bitches, take my shots,'
and I got pissed because that's very rude and disrespectful to call girls a
bunch of bitches," she said.

275 fist explosions!

On to more bitchiness, as a former KDKA sports anchor posted his own opinion about Big Ben on his cute blog that says he's not only a bad citizen of Pittsburgh and an alleged sexual assaulter, but also, horrible to sick kids:

A couple of years ago I heard from a woman who said that Roethlisberger
blew off a Make-A-Wish kid. When KDKA-TVs News Director, John Verrilli,
was shown the email, he made it clear that it was a story that his news
department would not be pursuing. I eventually got in contact with the
parents of the little girl who the jackass snubbed. They said the story was
true but they didn't want to go public with it for their daughter's sake. The
little girl had cystic fibrosis.

To be fair, what I heard was that Roethlisberger only "blew her off" because she refused to take her flu shots even though he bought them for her. Alas, he said/she said, again.
I seem to remember sometime last year you posted an article on the demographics of different club fan bases. Wasn't the Stoolers fan base the largest for women?
Yes it is:
http://www.nfl.com/news/story?id=09000d5d8024a78d&template=without-video&confirm=true
Pittsburgh leads nation in female NFL fans
PITTSBURGH -- The Pittsburgh Steelers have known for years their fan base included countless women -- that was evidenced by all the pink official team jerseys they sell and the hundreds who attend their female training camp each summer. Now the Steelers have proof that, when it comes to building a female fan base, Pittsburgh does it better than any other NFL market.

According to a Scarborough Sports Marketing survey of 220,354 residents in 75 United States markets conducted last year, Pittsburgh has, by far, the largest base of NFL fans who are women.

Pittsburgh is the runaway leader, with 34 percent of the women living in the Steelers' market identifying themselves as fans. Green Bay was second with 29.4 percent, but no other market surveyed had even one-quarter of its women identify themselves as fans.

Buffalo was third with 23.7 percent, followed by Cincinnati (22.8 percent), Kansas City (22.4 percent), Jacksonville (21.7 percent), Baltimore and Boston (21.5 percent) and Denver, Tampa-St. Petersburg and Washington, D.C. (20.9 percent).

Nationally, the average was 16 percent, which means that Pittsburgh has more than twice the number of female pro football fans than the average market, based on the survey's results.

Among men, Pittsburgh was second only to Green Bay in the percentage of fans -- 38 percent of the men in Green Bay identified themselves as fans, compared to 35.1 percent in Pittsburgh. Also in the top 10 were Jacksonville (34.9 percent), Boston and Denver (33.3); Buffalo, Indianapolis, Kansas City and Philadelphia (32.1) and Cincinnati (31.5).
Interesting note: Cleveland, home to the "world's greatest fans" does not appear in the top 10 in either category, while Cincinnati and 7 other clubs appear in BOTH top 10s.

sounds more and more like he will skate on all charges (or paid someone off). They haven't even interviewed him and now they don't want his DNA anymore.

How can you have an investigation and NOT question the accused?
Report: Investigators drop request for Roethlisberger's DNA

Posted by Michael David Smith on March 23, 2010 6:05 PM ET
The Georgia Bureau of Investigation withdrew its request for a DNA sample from Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger, Kelly Naqi of ESPN is reporting.

There is no word on why the request was withdrawn, and the Bureau's public information officer declined to comment on what it means regarding the status of the investigation.

Carl Prine of the Tribune-Review previously reported that attorney Ed Garland agreed to arrange for Roethlisberger to provide a DNA sample.

It is still not known whether charges will be brought against Roethlisberger, who was accused of sexual assault by a 20-year-old college student who says she met him at a bar on the night of March 4.

Lee Parks, an attorney for the accuser, told ESPN, "We're not commenting on the investigation. It's not our place to do that."

Everyone who was with Roethlisberger has reportedly been interviewed by investigators. Roethlisberger himself has not.
Why isn't Jen being charged with contributing to the delinquency of a minor? The girl was 20, below the drinking age in Georgia. It was Jen's booze he bought from the bar that he was "pushing" on the girls.

What's the difference between what Henry did and what Jen has done in this incident? Nothing, ...they are the exact same scenario.

Now that I think of it, ...there is one difference.

Henry was black but Jen is white.

Actually, if I'm not mistaken, the onus on that one goes to the bar where all this happened. When you're inside an over 21 establishment that sells alcohol, you should be able to purchase alcohol for anyone inside the building with the assumption that they've met the required criteria to get in the door. Had the bar staff done their jobs to ensure that everyone inside the building was of legal drinking age, as required by law, it wouldn't have been a problem. Ben was obviously under the assumption that everyone in that bar was over 21, and had no reason to ask her age.

If she did volunteer that information, and someone could prove it...then yeah, there might be something there. Unless you can find several witnesses willing to testify that they heard the girl tell Ben her age, there's no way to push that one.

From what I've read, Henry was perfectly aware of whom he was buying that alcohol for. Even if he didn't know their exact ages, it occurred outside of a bar setting, and they were young enough that he should have been suspicious enough to ask their ages before buying it.
