I have to say the thread regarding the potential for a trade of Ben over at Trailer Nation is ripe with meltdowns of glorious proportions.

They must really want to get rid of him if they are even considering trading him to the Browns.
He also said both the Rams and Bills are the known teams that have said no to trading for him.

Steeler forums seem to in full meltdown mode.

Can you imagine how it will be if they do end up trading Ben?

That's what I mentioned a few posts up. It's awesome, right?

This is like the greatest off season week in NFL history! Schedule, Douchbag suspension and the subsequent trade rumors that cause the wheels to - temporarily at least- fall off the double wide , and Draft. God Bless America.

God I would love it if Roethlisberger no longer played for the Steelers. As much as he seems like one of the biggest douchebags to ever walk the earth he is truly a great QB. I think that Steelers fans are underestimating how hard it will be to match his production.

Dennis Dixon? I am laughing my ass off at the thought of Steelers fans thinking that Dennis Dixon is going to be the answer at QB. Roethlisberger had a better QB rating than Peyton Manning last season and you are going to replace him with Ryan Fitzpatrick-lite? Roethlisberger isnt only a great QB, but he is one of the only QBs in the league that can work behind that horrible offensive line. Any other QB would get rattled. Ben is so big and dumb that he will take 50 sacks a year in order to buy the time that his revolving door of a line doesnt give him.

The Steelers could draft a QB in the first round. If they managed to get Oakland's pick (I don't think they will), they could even get Jimmy Clausen. And maybe he will develop into a QB that in a few years is as good as Roethlisberger. But that is an unlikely, best case scenario. He is more likely to be only an average NFL starter or a total bust.

After hearing the news of Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger's six-game suspension that can be reduced to four, Bengals safety Chris Crocker had a muted reaction Wednesday. On Tuesday, he was quite vociferous in hoping that NFL commissioner Roger Goodell would treat a two-time Super Bowl champion quarterback as harshly as he has treated the league's rank-and-file.

"I'm not going to bash another player," Crocker said. "But at the same time I'll say I don't know how long he should have gotten or what kind of punishment, but there definitely should have been a punishment."

Crocker isn't sure what is fair and not fair. Roethlisberger hasn't been charged, but the accusations are disturbing. What Crocker does know is that he doesn't Goodell should have the only say on player conduct and the question of fairness and consistency has to be addressed in the new collective bargaining agreement.

"I don't think it's fair that just one guy makes a decision like that," Crocker said. "I think there has to be some kind of a committee looking at it instead."

The Bengals won't be affected by the suspension because they don't get the Steelers until the ninth week of the season. Funny how it all works out, isn't it? The schedule surfaced a week later than usual and, presto, Roethlisberger misses only one division game and no prime-time games.

Of course, there's a very palatable sense that Ben won't be there by the time we get going. The Steelers are one of the best covered teams in the NFL with the Gene Alley-Bill Mazeroski double-play combo of Ed Bouchette and Gerry Dulac for the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette and the trade stuff is real if they're reporting it.

Dulac broke the story Tuesday that the Steelers have not only been contacted by other clubs about a deal for Roethlisberger but that the Steelers have talked about it internally. When we caught up on Wednesday so Dulac could make the Pittsburgh pick in the Bengals.com Media Mock (Idaho guard Mike Iupati), he said the club doesn't want to actively try to deal him.

"They've contacted every club in front of them so they know that they'd be willing to listen to any trade, but that's just the course of their regular draft business," Dulac said. "Forget Ben, or a specific trade, that's just what they do."

The way the anti-Ben sentiment is festering in Pittsburgh, though, Dulac wouldn't be surprised either way. The club was furious with the tawdry details of the police report and the smoke from that fire could generate anything. You're talking about a guy that was already not loved by his teammates and a recent poll question that ignited 3,000 responses in the Pittsburgh area that said 75 percent wouldn't mind seeing him gone shows he has the same kind of popularity in the fan base.

"He won't win any Man of the Year awards in the locker room, but they love the way he wins Super Bowls," Dulac said. "They've been able to put that all aside and just catch his passes."

Now?

"Now it's tough," Dulac said. "What if he comes back and they're 3-1 or 4-0? Or what if they're 1-3 and he comes back and they know he's the reason why?"

Just for the heck of it, here are the numbers of the Steelers' veteran backup quarterbacks against the Bengals:

Bryon Leftwich is 1-0 against them (2005 for Jacksonville) and is 13-for-27 for 195 yards, three touchdowns and no interceptions. Charlie Batch is 0-1 (2001 for the Lions) and in his only game against them he was 20-for-35 for 239 yards, two touchdowns and two interceptions. Leftwich mopped up for Roethlisberger in the Steelers' 38-10 win at Paul Brown Stadium in 2008 and completed all three of his passes for 34 yards and a touchdown.

I don't think Steeler fans are underestimating Ben's production at all. I think most Steeler fans are perfectly aware of the fact that getting rid of Ben could set the team back any number of years from a talent standpoint.

Most Steeler fans (myself included) are just tired of the drama around him. We were willing to give him the benefit of the doubt in the first case. But after these latest accusations, I think most fans are ready to move on and accept whatever drop in wins that entails. You should listen to the radio here in Pittsburgh, sometime. Every person that calls in wants Ben's head on a platter. Some of the radio personalities here (including Mark Madden), insist that the fans will forget about all of this and forgive once he starts throwing TDs again, but I'm not so sure. I think if he stays and continues to be a great QB, I think there's a huge portion of Steeler fans that are going to get a little knot in their collective stomachs every time he throws a TD, due to the mixed emotions they'll be experiencing.

That's the predictament I find myself in. I'm kind of leaning towards wanting the trade, just so I don't have to feel guilty about winning with Ben at the helm. I do think Dixon is better than most non-Steeler fans realize. He's been quite solid in his preseason showings, and also looked pretty good against Baltimore last year when he filled in. The biggest thing holding him back would be the offense coordinator, Bruce Arians. Dixon is very mobile and tends to be his best out of the pocket. Saying that, I full expect Arians to use 7-step straight drops every passing play.

None of that makes Dixon a Pro Bowler or even a franchise quarterback, of course. I think that if we had the horses up front to sustain a solid running game, then the drop off between the two would be somewhat minimal, only because I think Dixon is good enough to manage a game. But with the way our offense is oriented at the moment, I'd expect a significant drop off from Ben to Dixon.

Even knowing that, I still wouldn't be against a trade.

Steeler Nation enjoyed being able to look down their noses at other teams who had players in trouble with the law. They don't like losing the "moral high ground" and being forced to recognize that their shit does in fact stink.
You're absolutely right, which is why we're finally starting to flush some of these turds down the toilet. It's long overdue. One incident against a player is defensible. We've all gotten into a bad situation at some point in our lives. But if you don't learn from it, then I really don't want you on my team.
Myron Rolle thinks Roethlisberger suspension is "awesome"

Posted by Michael David Smith on April 21, 2010 2:40 PM ET
Most football players hoping to get drafted this week will be careful not to express any opinions that could be construed as the least bit controversial, lest they be viewed as the type who rocks the boat.

Myron Rolle is not like most football players.

Rolle, the Florida State defensive back turned Rhodes Scholar, was asked today what he thinks of NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell suspending Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger.

"I think it's awesome," Rolle answered. "He's showing his stance on character issues by the suspension and by his positioning with a lot of players."

Rolle said he thinks character counts in football and he's glad the commissioner of the NFL agrees.

"I'm happy to see a league that values good men," Rolle said. "I believe I am that. And I believe there are a lot more that need to be celebrated."

Rolle also made an interesting comment about two of Roethlisberger's teammates, Steelers defensive backs Ike Taylor and William Gay, who work out with Rolle and have told him what Roethlisberger is like.

"They say he's a lot of fun to be around," Rolle said, "but some of the decisions he's made haven't been the best."
Apparently I'm in the minority on Goodell. I like what he is doing. There are plenty of professions that are held to similar standards, regardless if you are arrested, convicted, etc. Rapingberger can pay off his young impressionable scared victims with his large sums of cash, but his intentional actions speak for themselves. He's a self-centered asswipe. This punishment seems in line with his previous actions.

Trade him to San Francisco where he's chances of encountering a he-she during his pursuits are dramatically increased.

Hasn't James Harrison slapped a few girls around? I mean..there are quite a few trouble makers on the Steelers. If they want to get rid of Ben, why wasn't James done with awhile back?
Actually, there's only one incident of Harrison having a domestic dispute. He supposedly called the Rooney's and self-reported the incident before news ever broke out, and took full accountability for it.

The other incident you're thinking of was when his pitbull attacked his son. According to reports, Harrison wasn't even home when it happened. His wife let the dog out of the cage and wasn't watching them.

Either way, I don't run the team and don't make personnel decisions. If Harrison were to develop a pattern, then I'd be all for shipping him out.

Some of their comments are .sigworthy:
- "maybe we should take tim tebow. having a gay QB would cut down on the assault cases in the future."
- "Maybe there's more to Ben than we know....hence this trade [FILTH]. Seriously...WTF. Are they THAT pissed off at him? Bull[FILTH]. There has to be something more we don't know about."
- "Sell your PSL's now, their value is at it's peak."

And this exchange is classic, though I have to include an ugly photo/avatar for anything to make sense:

Poster 1: See my avatar? I contacted the photographer himself and paid for that original print....huge size....and went through hell to get a signature from Ben. I also got it framed in gorgeous wood and it sits on the wall between a monster Lambert autographed pic and a monster Franco autographed pic of him running back the Immaculate Reception. If we trade Ben...I'm taking the pic of him to Rooney's house and buring it on his front porch.

Either way, sticky situation for the Steelers. I think Dixon could be really good, but he might not be able to endure the hits. If the Steelers can get in the top 10 and grab someone and someone at 18, I think that would be better for them.

I'd like it if he applied the same rules to everyone. He didn't change our schedule to make losing Odell and Henry as painless as possible. He didn't wait until we traded Henry to suspend him. And of course, he has looked the other way on many offenses between ours and these latest ones for Pitt, and done nothing. Like the Bills RB that did a hit and run, etc.

The sticky situation for Pittsburg is they have let Ben spoil them. They don't seem to be able to grind the clock out regardless of what the other teams do, as they have liked to do in the past. In my opinion, its why they had the late game collapses last year. If teams aren't trying to contain Ben, its a tall order to establish the clock grinding run game they need, until they rebuild their line.
