So I dont get why people are upset about this one when its only a block closer than the other.
Because one was already there before the attacks, one is being proposed
to be built closer after the attacks.

To use Michael Moore's own words, 70% of the Nation is against it.
He tries to justify it by saying that same number was for the Iraq war too.
Like that matters. And like they were wrong. But that is another topic.
Then he goes on to say that we should take our Country back for the
"bullies, thugs, and haters". Really? 70% of the population are
dumbass, bullies, thugs and haters?

Nothing like talking down to the one's you want to be on your side. lol

Yes. It was already there.

I picked the death toll of the WTC attacks and the number
of hits Pete Rose, who is a great American, got on this date.
Both fitting numbers.

And if there was one 5 blocks away already, and another 12 blocks away, then why build one 2 blocks away?

location, location, location.

I realize the anti- folks aren't for "actually" stopping them, i.e., forbidding the Islamic center from being built. How about another compromise proposal? Make the penalty for assaulting patrons of the center a $25 misdemeanor.

I lol'd

I don't care what they build or where they build it, I'd just like to see religious institutions taxed. Philosophy aside, religion is a trillion dollar industry in this country. We need to start tapping into it.

I'm a little late to the discussion. Every church that I have ever been a part of struggles to pay it's bills and it's Pastor, let alone taxes.

I think there are very few real churches that have any room in their budgets to pay taxes.

Trampling on the rights of the 18,000,000 Muslim Americans is a small price [for them] to pay. That assumes, of course, that they actually have all the rights afforded by US citizenship.

Amazing how the deed of radical muslims make some people condemn the whole religion and its followers. I for one don't care where people want to build their places of worship. This country was founded by people trying to live free of religious persecution and so that they could exercise their faith freely. That freedom is still warranted today by the constitution. And that is just as true as for a site in Manhattan as a site in Podunk USA. And there were innocent muslims that died in the terror attacks as well, should we not respect their faith? We as Americans should be 'better' than the rest of the world, not sink down to the levels we are currently sinking to, with many of us turning into hypocritical, self-loving assholes instead of following the principles of JC or whatever your basic religious or spiritual beliefs are.

 • 2 weeks later...
Believe it or not, this story doesn't bother me... The dude that was trying to build it seemed shady, but the act itself was basically a political gift for Republicans, but in the long term, who really is affected? Many bigger and badder fish to fry than a mosque built in downtown NYC.

This is America people!!! Freedom, right? If this dude has the balls and the gull to try to build a mosque in probably the worst possible place he can, let him try...

And anyone that would do damage to it or the people in it would show themselves to be no better than the terrorists.

I'd say that someone that would do either of those things would have the intention of using "terror" to scare the rest of us into their way of thinking. Hard to dispute it really.
