Here’s one that we considered holding until we could get confirmation. But the emails are flowing in like chocolates on a conveyor belt, and the only way to turn the machine off is to post an item on what could be a stunning development in the saga of Colts quarterback Peyton Manning.
Radio host John Michael Vincent of ESPN 1070 in Indianapolis says via Twitter, citing multiple unnamed sources, that Manning needs another procedure on his neck, and that Manning is out indefinitely.
Manning has had two neck surgeries in the last two years, and there have been concerns regarding his recovery and rehabilitation. The team’s recent decision to sign Kerry Collins raised eyebrows. Since then, Manning has been activated from the Physically Unable to Perform list, and he lately has seemed upbeat when discussing the situation with the media. Also, the decision to keep only two other quarterbacks.
Says John Michael Vincent, who goes by his initials on the air, of his report: “I’m not trying to be a newsbreaker. Never cared for that. I thought you would like to know. Seems to be solid. If I’m wrong U can torch me.”
The Colts have been silent so far, but owner Jim Irsay has made an indirect reference on Twitter to the classic astronaut SOS: “Houston, we have a problem.” Instead of typing those words, Irsay has opted for the lesser-known follow up.
“Excuse me, sir, I think this will be our finest hour.”
If JMV is accurate, Colts fans will have a hard time agreeing with that.

Colts will address Manning’s status for opener by noon

The Colts are well known for burying injury information, but they know they can’t just ignore all the questions about Peyton Manning.
ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports the Colts plan to address Manning’s status for the season opener by noon ET Monday. Schefter echoed Chris Mortensen’s report from Sunday night that there are no plans for Manning to undergo more surgery. (Schefter left off the “as of now.”)
This isn’t the only news the Colts will break Monday. Owner Jim Irsay said vice Chairman Bill Polian would have a statement about new replay assistant Jim Tressel’s status.
Florio reported on air Saturday that the NFL would review Tressel’s status with the team. Tressel’s hire was made without approval by the league, which goes against protocol.
The last time we saw Polian at a press conference, he was helping to announce Manning’s monster contract extension. This one won’t have the same celebratory vibe.

Peyton is done, ...stick a fork in him.

Even if he forces himself to come back he'll never be the same. I have the exact same problem as him including the nerves acting up and I had the associated muscle spasms in the back that are really intense (so much so that at times I only got 3-4 hours of sleep a night on heavy painkillers). Occasionally, my arms go numb or tingle and at times I lose strength in one or the other and its been over 6 years since the accident.
INDIANAPOLIS (CBS) – A radio station in Indianapolis is reporting a rumor that Colts’ quarterback Peyton Manning had a third surgery this week and is out for the season.
WNDE radio host Jake Query reported that a source told him that Manning had a third surgery either Sunday or Monday and is done for the season. A second source told Query that the surgery was on Manning’s lower back, not his neck, as was the case with two previous surgeries.
The third surgery has not been confirmed and the Colts have not commented on the rumor.

I sadly think Jeb may be right about this injury threatening Peyton's career, and that's got to be crushing for him. That dude is football through and through. I think if surgery was actually going to help, it would have done so the first time...

I wonder what a guy like Peyton, who can't play right now, thinks of Carson's choice not to play. I bet he'd give his left nut (to Shaelynn?) and sign with the Bengals to be an injury free player again.

The only difference between his injury and mine is that I opted not to have the surgery. There is at best a 50/50 chance at fixing the problem with surgery with the best surgeon. I don't like those odds. Surgery involves fusing the vertebrae and less mobility that comes with it. Minor surgery can be for just cleanup but even that can cause scar tissue that can irritate the nerve.

As I said, ...he's living my story now, ...he's done!

(Btw, ...I too have a ruptured disk in my lower back, ...this is getting eerie)

Yeah, my dad has been living with bad disks for decades now. The surgery scared the crap out of him so he tries to diet, exercise wisely, and get the odd cortisone shot when things get really bad. He had to sell a car a few years ago because the general vehicle vibration was just right and caused his arm to go numb... A friend's husband has a bad disk too, but he opted for a disk replacement surgery in Germany he can't get here. Haven't heard how it went though.

Out "awhile" according to ESPN. Sounds like Carson circa 2008. Stick a fork in the Colts. They're done this year. Probably picking top 3 next year.

I have Reggie Wayne in one fantasy league FML.

Then they can draft Luck to replace Manning.
