Bengals FA Interest and Dealings

Recommended Posts

I'm thinking of a number between 0 and 9,293,394,495,384 and the number has something to do with the number of free agents we've signed so far with 50 million dollars and more money then any other team in the National Football League. Hmm.... I wonder....smh

Most disappointing off-season evar? I think so.

How soon you forget. This time last year there was a Lock Out and our Franchise QB
was saying he'd rather change diapers than play for us.

Wow... i was hoping for at least Ross or Porter.... Lankford for sure..... i'm not sure what the plan is but WTF comes to mind...... not worried really but we don't have enough draft picks to fill the holes IMO...... but they suprised us last year with a great draft.... maybe we are looking that way again....

That was pretty sucky, but we made out like fat-cats.

Problem is this year, we don't have the #4 overall pick. Plus we signed quite a few defensive starters in the first few days and retained our own.

We do have two picks in the 1st round, a Pro Bowl QB, Pro Bowl WR, Pro Bowl Te, Pro Bowl DT
and plenty of time to make up ground. We have lost 3 backups. Things aren't all that bleak.

It's not bleak, but starting to get a little worrisome. I hate to see the defense take a step backward this year since it seems the offense was most in need of an infusion of young talent.

Poll: Most disappointing free agency start

March, 16, 2012

By Jamison Hensley

So, your AFC North team hasn't lived up to expectations in the first couple of days in free agency. I hear you fans from Cincinnati, Cleveland and Baltimore. For those in Pittsburgh, you're used to taking a fan vacation during this time, because the Steelers rarely do much in free agency.

It's now time for you to vent. Let is all out. Put all your frustration into slamming that keyboard as you vote in today's poll: Which AFC North team has had the most disappointing start in free agency?

The Bengals have more cap room than the other three teams in the division combined. But they don't have a starting running back, a No. 2 wide receiver or any quality guards.

The Browns have made some solid signings with defensive end Frostee Rucker and cornerback Dimitri Patterson, but they have ignored the team's biggest weakness -- the offense that rarely scored more than 17 points in 2011. Cleveland doesn't have a proven running back, a speedy wide receiver or a starting right tackle.

The Ravens have lost the most starters in the division since free agency began, parting ways with guard Ben Grubbs, linebacker Jarret Johnson and defensive end Cory Redding. A fourth starter could be added to the list as linebacker Jameel McClain is visiting Denver.

And finally, there's the Steelers, who released a good chunk of their veteran depth before free agency, and can't do anything to address that because of paltry salary-cap space. It would've been nice to upgrade the offensive line, add a veteran running back, or sign a nose tackle in free agency.

Go ahead and register your vote, or let me know what you think in the comments section below. I'll follow up by Monday.

Oh I'd be lying if I said I haven't been disappointed so far.

I was really hoping they'd swing for the fences and upgrade some positions with top tier talent and re-sign some players.
So far they haven't swung for the fences, and what swing they did take was a big swingannamiss.

Langford leaves without a contract and other Bengals notes

Posted by Evan Silva on March 16, 2012, 10:42 AM EDT

Joe Reedy of the Cincinnati Enquirer reports that free agent defensive lineman Kendall Langford exited Bengals headquarters Friday morning after Thursday’s visit with the team.
Langford is expected to visit the Rams next.

The Bengals had three confirmed visitors who spent the night in Cincinnati Thursday: Langford, cornerback Aaron Ross, and cornerback Tracy Porter.

Per Reedy, the club is scheduled to host free agent running back Michael Bush on Monday. The Bengals have also had defensive lineman Andre Fluellen and guard Jacob Bell visit their facility.

It's way too early to call things a bust... even when a guy comes to town and leaves doesn't mean a contract isn't possible. That said, I'm disappointed that they didn't keep either Rucker or Fanene. Neither was a star, but both were contributors up front, for sure. Langford would be a great replacement, but not sure that's gonna happen.

I can still see Bush signing on, a CB or two, and a DL. I could see Sims back, too, along with Adam Jones. Not sure on Reggie, but I don't think we'll see a WR in FA - likely in the draft, though, unless they sign Jerome back in a short deal.

This is the LAST YEAR MB will be able to pocket the money he saves by not spending up to the salary cap.

I think he's gonna try to go out with a bang and sock away as much as thinks he can get away with.

In 2013, he'll have no choice but to spend on player salaries--that's when we'll probably see some big name free agents signed.

x2. It's disappointing that they left, but maybe they want to think it over, talk to their wifes, etc.. Tough to really say with the little we know.

If this is really what's going on we are royally screwed because I can't see Zimmer and Gruden standing for that shit.

for perspective on what may be happening with the guys the bengals had in. Mathis also had an overnight visit with the ravens.

Anderson was the Falcons 1st round pick when Zimmer was their DC.

That is positive, no doubt....but Probowl doesn't mean what it used to mean. It used to be the best players, now with players sitting out and online voting, it's so watered down. I am disappointed that they aren't filling the line positions. Maybe they don't see that much talent out there, I don't know. I remember being pissed they didn't go after Bryant Mckinnie last year and people said I was dumb and called me names. So I am keeping my mouth shut this year, because my feelings are still hurt.

Zimmer probably hates him then

He had a horrible rookie year. Started 16 games and had 0 sacks.

Still don't understand why this guy was never a beast or at least adequate. He has all the physical tools.

With our caps space I was thinking the same. We were a weaker playoff team last year (NOT COMPLAINING) that I felt really could have improved with a stud or two. Now it feels more like we are just trying to maintain the status quo and hope we hit a home run in the draft. Assuming the guys we fill holes with this year will pan out is a risky proposition.

Sure we will pick up some players soon to replace the ones we lost but I don't see much "Upgrade" talent left which sucks since we have so much cap room.

I don't think it is watered down in this case.

Dalton had a great year all things considered.

AJ Green = Motherfucking Stud.

Gresham had as many TD catches as Vernon Davis

Atkins led all DTs in sacks.
