Didn't they lose that battle?

Nope.

I would think any Bengals fan is hoping Mays is the real deal. And he might be.
That size, speed and strength would be like having a linebacker at safety with wide receiver speed.
I just think like a few others on here. That he needs to learn how to tackle.
And my eyes tell me Miles is playing better right now & should be the starter.

Not worried about whether his hips are stiff or not. Play under control and learn how to fucking tackle. Once he has that down, then pick his spots for a knock out hit or forced furmbel if it is there.

Haven't seen anything to say he can not cover since he has been a Bengal. Everything I have heard has been because San Fran traded him and you guys watching him on bengal.com video. But not one fucking piece of tangible evidence in a game.

I just want him to learn how to tackle and see what he can do from there. And stop with all this stiff hip crap. geezzzzzz

MAYS DILEMMA: Lewis has yet to talk to safety Taylor Mays, feeling down Thursday night when for the second time in as many games he plowed into a teammate to make them iffy for the next game. He did it to Maualuga (sprained knee) in the opener and he missed Thursday's game and on Thursday Mays collided with middle linebacker Vontaze Burfict on a tackle and hit him in the head.

Lewis is going to tell Mays to keep his head up as he finishes the play, but to keep playing aggressively.

“There’s only one way to play. Maybe there’s some things that he can keep working on in practice to make sure when he gets into the finish point of those plays that his head and eyes are staying up," Lewis said. " That would be the only thing that I would say he can continue to work at. That’s one thing that you can at least strive to work on in practice, to keep your head and eyes up when you get into those collision points, which really will help him down the line as part of being part of the adjustments in the rules. That will help him."

SAFETY SQUEEZE: But Lewis loves the way the safeties are hitting. Along with middle linebacker Roddrick Muckelroy, Reggie Nelson stopped 250-pound Falcons tight end Tony Gonzalez a yard shy of the first down on Thursday's first possession. Then on the next series Nelson unloaded on running back Jacquizz Rodgers for a seven-yard loss on a third-down pass. Not only did Jeromy Miles have an end-zone interception, but he added six tackles.

“(Mays) is playing a position, I would say, where our guys are knocking the tail off of folks right now. It’s evident on tape that when balls are getting caught, those guys are getting hit," Lewis said. "That’s a good thing. They’re playing very physical back there. We’ve got pretty good, tight coverage, and we’re running them into tight spaces. That’s what you want to have, because that will make a difference down the line. Last night we didn’t get those tipped balls. As you keep tipping balls in the air and getting your hands on balls, those will start to fall your way.”

That is a VICIOUS hit!
As BJ said before I noticed the hit while watching the game but what I did not see is the speed with which he closed the gap. That FB had no chance of surviving that and exactly why our run D is going to be top 5.

Marvin Lewis' comments on the issue would seem to suggest that he is more concerned with possible penalties than with Mays hurting his own team mates..
“There’s only one way to play. Maybe there’s some things that he can keep working on in practice to make sure when he gets into the finish point of those plays that his head and eyes are staying up," Lewis said. "That would be the only thing that I would say he can continue to work at. That’s one thing that you can at least strive to work on in practice, to keep your head and eyes up when you get into those collision points, which really will help him down the line as part of being part of the adjustments in the rules. That will help him."
As was pointed out by 1181 earlier, Rey wasn't hurt by Mays, the guy Mays hit rolled up on Rey's knee.. That's not really Mays fault. The hit that took Burfict out was bad, but at the same time that kind of thing is going to happen when you are playing aggressive physical defense. What I didn't like about it is that play would have drawn a penalty and likely a fine if it would have been against an opponent.

Yeah, I have heard that use of it before.. I always thought the phrase was coined to play off the homosexual meaning, as to deliver a double insult... Which makes it even more awesome.. Kind of like how the Teabaggers did to themselves unwittingly. When I first heard the description i thought it was a leftist slam, it became all the more priceless when I found put it was a self description.
