Madieu Superstar
Brutal It sucks that he's gone, but lets not all start wearing black as a result. The defense will be fine. If anything, it stops the song-and-dance every January of waiting for Zimmer to finally get a promotion.

Jackie Treehorn
Thanks for the great years Mike! You'll always be remembered fondly in Cincinnati. One of the most down to earth people I've ever met.

Madieu Superstar
We're fucked. We are not. it's not like 2008. We actually have talent now on the defensive side. We also have supposedly qualified assistants on staff champing at the bit to get a promotion. In my opinion, losing Gruden and Hue Jackson this off-season would have been a bigger set-back for our team.
fluhartz
yep it sucks for us. Thanks for the years Mike!!! and for making this defense bad ass and set up for the next coach to look great. Good luck in Minny. Hope to see you against us in the Super Bowl soon. TheLightWithin
Thank you for everything, Coach Zimmer! You were my favorite coach in all the years of being a Bengals fan. Wishing you nothing but the best in your new role. You deserve it.

T-Dub
Hey, Guenther has previous DC experience. He served as the Jacksonville University DC for a year back in 1997. With credentials like that, no need to interview anyone else!
Le Tigre
Bullshit. We usually agree, Ken...but this time, I can't see any positives to this. If you are going to say "Guenther"...there is no body of work at the defensive coordinator position with which to judge. Coupled with the exodus of players--bound to happen now--and the change in the defensive scheme/playcalling (which will naturally happen with someone new, regardless of how much of the "old system" is kept in place) this coming year will in no way be even or better than what it was last. Show me I am wrong.
Zins30
Good luck Mike. hate to see you go but you clearly deserve a shot at a head gig. Here's to hoping we can keep the same level of intensity up. Also, I'm waiting for an epic BJ post sometime today....

TheLightWithin
By the way, this is fantastic news for the best RB of this generation, Adrian Peterson. He might finally get a shot to have tangible postseason success before his illustrious career ends. Great D + Excellent Running game is a proven formula. Go get it! Show me I am wrong. I'm as suspicious of this automatic promotion for Guenther as the next guy, but do you think you could be any more alarmist? I don't expect some grand exodus for the 5-10 Vikings. Maybe wait and see how they actually perform before you go running through the streets with your hair on fire.

Show me I am wrong. The thing is, that they have known for quite a while that Zimmer was going to be gone. Whether last year, this year, or next year, someone was finally going to wake up and give him an opportunity. You are probably right, there is not a lot of chance we are better than last year, considering we were third overall, but I do believe that with the talent base that we have, we should still be a top ten D. As far as Guenther, if they decide to do that, it would be similar to what happened to Zimmer when he went from DB coach to DC with Dallas, and his DC was Campo. Guenther, at least, has spent the last 6 seasons working directly with Zimmer, especially on game planning and defending the passing game. I think he's been groomed for the position. Does that show you what Marv/Zim/Gruden think of that guy? Highly.
