sparky151
We should replace Scott this offseason but it's a lower priority than several other positions.
MichaelWeston
Digging some, I think they will like Kevin Byard. They want leadership in the back end and he's a 5 time team captain.

Yeah .. He's was a negative last year Don't know what to expect of him this year. Cap casualty for someone better?
JC
A lot of chatter around Geno Stone and it makes a lot of sense. Supposedly can’t tackle though. With how saturated the market is - I’d expect a real dude here that gets left behind by the market. Cannot have the issues they had last year because Dax doesn’t want to take the time to learn the playbook.
sparky151
Dehner's roster prediction has us signing Darnell Savage with Hill moving to CB. He has Scott kept around for special teams. Savage is a big hitter but not very good in coverage. I think we need better coverage, ie a FS such as Stone. We won't pay up for a Simmons or McKinney level player but there are a lot of safeties on the market at the moment. We should be able to find an affordable upgrade. 1

Bengals have 9 draft picks and a lot of cap space. It's definitely possible to go to minicamp with no obvious roster holes. That doesn't mean players won't get injured in training camp or preseason games but we should have a good mix of vets and youth with talent in all the position groups.

Hard to predict exactly what will happen obviously, but reports/rumors seem to indicate there will be action in free agency. I’m hearing a safety will be brought in for sure and also they’ll try to sign Reader or another DT to replace him. OT and TE are clear needs on offense so there will be moves there as well. I also wouldn’t rule out CB.
sparky151
I'd like us to have our needs covered with vets going into the draft so we can take the best player at 18, whether it's Bowers, Thomas, Murphy, DeJean, Mims, etc.
T-Dub
42 minutes ago, sparky151 said: I'd like us to have our needs covered with vets going into the draft so we can take the best player at 18 No reason they can't make it happen with the amount of cap space they're sitting on. They're not going to have Pro Bowlers at every position but they can at least avoid making draft picks out of desperation.
MichaelWeston
Byard to the bears for 2 years 15 M total. I would have paid that but that's near where I would have a ceiling. He will be a centerpiece for that team.
sparky151
I'm surprised the Bears paid that much for an older and slowing guy. Titans, then Eagles moved on from him. IMO Bears should have paid up for McKinney or Simmons.
Le Tigre
All things considered, the Bengals safety room is open and ready for business. Pretty well stocked now with Stones, Vonn, Battle, Dax. Lots of versatility in where Lou puts them. Strength up the middle looks OK.
sparky151
Let's see if Hill remains at safety. They typically carry 4 safeties and 6 CBs. At the moment it looks like the depth chart is FS1 Geno Stone FS2 Dax Hill SS1 Vonn Bell SS2 Jordan Battle SS3 Tycen Anderson Maybe Battle gets more starts and snaps than Bell. That would be ok. If Anderson can't stay healthy, he would be out. But he has good wheels and could back up at free safety if Hill moves to CB.
