He was a three-year starting quarterback at Valley High, twice earning All-State honors. A three-star recruit, he signed with Michigan State over Iowa. He was in and out of the starting role over his four seasons with the Spartans. He transferred to Northern Illinois and showed NFL promise in 2021 but missed most of the 2022 season, and his 2023 season was inconsistent. Lombardi is a terrific athlete for his size and shows the willingness to work in a muddy pocket. He needs to be more efficient working through progressions (will peek at the rush). His touch and pacing as a passer are up and down, but he isn’t shy giving his receivers a chance at 50/50 balls. Overall, Lombardi is a good-sized athlete with a B-level arm and admirable toughness, but his mechanics and execution just weren’t consistent enough on tape. Grandy’s catch production looks good on paper, but most of the catches were stop routes and short catches. He gets what defenses give him but is unlikely to uncover against NFL man coverage. He gets into run blocks with good hands and feet and might have enough toughness to grow that part of his game if he can get stronger on the next level. Strengths Consistently puts himself in position to win covered catches. Works his way back to throws and away from defenders. Adequate feel for working across outside leverage. Technique is ahead of the game for a college run blocker. Fits up with accurate hands and runs his feet through contact. Weaknesses Non-threatening seam speed with limited foot quickness. A little slow and upright getting around route turns. Doesn’t cause enough trouble after the catch. Radar and pop as a lead blocker will need more work.
