Adeniji is on the Browns - practice squad. He was with Minnesota last year - mostly PS but he was on the 53 for several games.

He plays for the Browns and has made almost $4 million in five years despite being a below-average NFL player. I think she thinks they're very fortunate and blessed.

Thanks.  I did not realize that.

At this point I think that Pollack and the Defensive staff are on the cutting block.

Some names for the DC again

Dennis Allen

Brandon Staley

Jim Leonhard

Mike Vrabel

Robert Saleh

A name for OL

John Benton from Saints.

Allen was interviewed when we hired Anarumo. I'd love a veteran head coach on this staff and he has 2 stops. His DL coach is Todd Grantham who we also interviewed when we hired Anarumo. His LBs coach was at Texas AnM with Taylor.

Benton who is also form the Saints was the OL coach with Taylor in Miami. He coached in San Fran and then moved to the Jets with Saleh to take on the run coordinator job as well....a job he was fired from in NY.

Not that I'm attached to either one but what makes you think they're going to fire them?

Mims has played well, OBJr is out & the other 3 are the same as ever.  They've "shown improvement" as a group, or whatever well-worn lines they trot out in these situations.  If they draft interior OL that can realistically compete with the starters that'd be about as much as I could expect.  A free agent upgrade is probably too much to ask for, without which a coaching change isn't likely to help anything in the short term.

Anarumo seems slightly more likely, I guess, but he's under contract for 3 more years and has been dealing with musical chairs on the DL.  They're not going to give up on the younger DL yet so what exactly lands on Lou? They've made some questionable roster moves in the secondary but I can't see them going beyond replacing a couple of those guys.  A new DC seems like more upheaval than they're likely to accept.

The OL allowed pressure on about 50% of plays vs the Ravens. He is the run game coordinator too and that's bad. He isn't developing any players.

The defense is one of the worst in the league. Anarumo has had one good season. When you have what amounts to the best QB-WR and Pass rush seasons going on and you keep losing games because of the defense....and you have no running game there will be major upheaval.

That sounds reasonable enough, but this is the Bengals.

New Era though, right?  Right!?   :Horror-min:

I could see them jettisoning Pollack but (relatively speaking) the OL play has improved, especially pass blocking. And save for Mims and OBJ, the interior guys are average guys, at best.

I think they’d keep Lou but some of the position coaches, perhaps, are vulnerable. Particularly secondary play… CB has regressed and at safety, Kovacs is in year one, but they have played poorly. DL play, at least pass rush-wise (except Tre) has been a struggle as well.

Someone made the decision to bring back Bell & sign Geno Stone.  At the time it was supposed to be about better communication among the DB's.  I guess having an old/slow dude yelling "there they go!" as a ball carrier streaks past them is helpful in some ways yet they have regressed overall.

Someone, most likely the same someone, thought Sheldon Rankins was an adequate replacement for DJ Reader for $8 million guaranteed, at age 30.  Reader is himself making about half a mil less on a similar contract, age 30, starting for the 8-1 Detroit Lions.  They are currently ranked 6th in fewest allowed YPC rushing.

The person(s) who made those decisions should probably not get to keep making those decisions but, well, y'know...

That's on Duke, IMO. He should be on thin ice... but you're right, he likely isn't. I'm sure Mike thinks he's doing a great job!

I am honestly not sure that it matters.  He's loyal and they like him as a person, he's obviously a friend of the family.  As long as he doesn't do anything egregious or commit a felony I'm not sure that they really care so much about the job performance.  Culturally they seem to attribute losing primarily to bad luck.

At least, that is my impression.

I stand by my statement that if this team doesn’t make the playoffs it should cost Taylor his job.  Way too much talent for that.

At the same time I’m not sure that would happen.  While I understand Mike isn’t involved day to day, I still believe he is involved in big decisions like that. He is slow to pull the trigger on a lot of things and has likely passed that along to his offspring.

It’s the Bengals.  They’ve moved forward in some ways, but they are still probably 10 years behind the more progressive teams in the league.

I would say Joe has a significant say in how the coaches turn over next season.
