He wasn't the only guy who did that...that's what every player does...Tom Brady and Mahomes do it...every D lineman complains about getting held when they don't make a play...DBs complain about WRs pushing off when they give up a big play...

Let's peel back the onion, what is about TJ that u don't like..are u jealous of his ponytail and movie star jawline?

They are in the business of making as much money as possible for the Brown/Blackburn family..

I think it's more maintaining a steady & safe income so they can go on living the lifestyle they're accustomed to indefinitely.

They could certainly make more money by fielding a consistent winner and staying in Super Bowl contention, but that comes with some amount of risk.

They've got no other source of income to sustain them and families tend to grow exponentially each generation.

It makes them extremely risk averse and resistant to change.

Not taking the bait but how about I always admired how he went from 7th round draft pick who was basically drafted to keep

Akili Smith company to a long time and productive wide receiver for the Cincinnati Bengals.

Just didn't care for the drama and thought it kind of cheapened his talent.

I liked Housh's game a lot but he was definitely a hot-head that complained to the refs more than most.

id bet they actually hope he just gets it together and is super productive on the field. a 3rd round pick being useless their rookie season is pretty common. his lack of usefullnes is not skill related though.

no idea why you are like this. as if wners constantly firing GMs and coaches is a successful process.

Signing Adam “PAC MAN” Jones was a huge risk in many ways (and I admit I was totally against it) but he gave us some great years.

Hero worship of young boys at an early age by grown adults, to include looking the other way at any improper conduct, has different effects on different people. Chris Carter is a perfect case study of how it sometimes works out for the good eventually.

exactly, you can risk if a player is good enough or not, or occasionally you can risk if they mature or not, knowing damn well they have the talent.

seems like an easy decision honestly.

The Bengals don't do that, and it shows.

here we are again in 2001.

there are about 5... maybe 10-15 if you count the "position specialty" ones of scouting agencies who each employ 50-100 scouts, collect the data and sell it to teams.

sitting here acting like the eagles or whoever, have 20-45 scouts scouring the country like no one else finding gems like a disney movie, is ridiculous.

every team has instant video of every single players every single play, with sortable scenarios, at their finger tips, and 100+ reviews from 100's of scouts they know and trust on said players, its 2025. its a billion dollar industry. and those scouting firms include background checks, private investigators, everything you imagine.

paying independant scouts vs having them on the staff leads to the same info and the same results. which is why all 32 teams hit and miss draft picks every single year.

i cant understand what bengals fans invision happening in bengals draft prep vs what happens in other teams draft prep.

if we want to pretend to be realistic about what a 3rd round WR looks like... here is some history.

lets see a 2 year turn.

2022 draft:

Velus Jones - no longer on bears, career totals of 135 yards and 12 catches, almost all his first season. nothing really sense

David Bell - 408 yards and 3 TDs in 3 seasons. production declining each year

Jalen Tolbert - best of the class, 12 yards first year, 250 second, 600 this year.

Danny Grey - rookie season 7 targets, 1 catch, that was it, out of the league after that season never palyed again.

thats 1 of 4 to produce anything at all.

now go through years and youll find a Nico Collins diamond in the rough as well.

but we really gotta stop pretending third round picks are some sure fire starter than the bengals and only the bengals magically squander to oblivion .

taking the shot on a top talent WR who is a dumbass is a better risk than hoping a guy develops into a guy talented enough to play.

You're claiming the Bengals recent drafts have been on par with the NFL as a whole?

If that's the case why are all these other teams wasting money on scouting departments?

If only there was a 3rd option, like a top talent WR that isn't a dumbass..  Or even a 2nd tier talent that isn't a dumbass...

Nah let's keep buying scratch offs..  Somebody's got to win, right?

Sorry but I'm not buying this narrative from the team where winning is basically a matter of dumb luck and nothing at all could be done to improve how they do things.

first question.

a likely franchise RT, 2 DT's very possibly a part of the starting rotation for years, a utility knife TE (injuries an issue), a depth CB in the 5th,

yea id say thats pretty good. and id say its probably better a third or half the league.

you think there is a gang og top talent WR's in the third round?

what the fuck are you talking about?

here is who else was drafted in the 3rd round.

Malechi Corley,  - 3 catches 26 yards.

Roman Wilson - zero stats recorded

Jalen McMillan - 461 yards for tampa

Luke Mccaffery - 168 yards.

man with a whirlwind of blistering talent like that how is this dranchise even competing in the NFL?!?!??!?!?!?

tell us more.

shit lets look at the next two EARLIER WR picks..

second rounders...

Adoni Mitchell - 312 yards

JaLynn Polk - 87 yards...

must be the Nepotism at the Colts, Patriots, Jets, Steelers and Bucs as well.... just no accountability.

they all stick with their coaches and GM constantly right?  tiny little scouting departments?

Who is this "utility knife" TE?  The one with the injury history that then lasted all of about 5 snaps before being once again injured so badly he's going to miss next season, too?  It sucks because I thought he looked really good but "utility knife" come the fuck on.  He's done.  He's not even a toothpick.

And let's maybe go back more than one draft...

That's what the fuck I'm talking about.  Why the fuck are you defending literally every facet of this team not named Volson?  It's weird.

At a higher or lower rate than this team?  I think it's obvious some teams have drafted better than others.  So where does this one rank?

Or is your position that it's all a big crap shoot and none of them have any idea what they're doing?

Kansas city ... HUGEE scouting department...

lets see how they do drafting OL recently... since we are th eonly ones who miss on linemen.

2024 2nd rounder, Sauanamaia - 30.5 pass block grade, 38 overall grade. killer.

2023 3rd round Wayna Morris - 55 pass blco kgrad, 54 overall, 94th ranked guard. awesome

hire 55 team staff scouts immediately...

why is this so hard to understand..

EVERY TEAM hits on picks..

EVERY TEAM misses on picks.

the draft is a crap shoot. the variables, no matter what, make it a complete unknown and EVERY TEAM hits and misses...

Your position then is that the Bengals are the same as every other team at drafting.  No one is any better or worse at it, and there is nothing that can be done to improve.

That's kinda crazy to me.  Like sure everyone makes mistakes but not everyone fucks off their NFL debut to play video poker.  I'm going to maintain that there are levels here.

I suppose that leaves us at an impasse.  Lets hope the Draft Spirits or whatever shine upon us in a few months, then.

If the Bengals cut Jermain Burton he will be a Steeler the next day.

I know the infamous Kirby Criswell was a second round pick cut in training camp...

something about dropping acid before practice, once got lost in the woods at the

Wilmington training camp site and was not seen for hours...

but have the Bengals every cut someone drafted so high so soon?

I rather doubt if they will unless he does something really stupid involving the law

in the off season (entirely likely) but...

And I hope he makes it, btw.

While that's true, if I no-showed my menial job at 20 I would've been fired, period.  No appeals, no press conference, and no community of fans making excuses for me.

This guy has millions of dollars & a career as an NFL athlete on the line and can't get out of bed on time?

Sorry if my sympathy seems to be lacking.

Cannot help but imagine George Pickens lined up on one side, Jermaine Burton lined up on the other.

If Stealers fans wanted Mike Tomlin to just quit and go mumbling away into the night, that migraine headache WR pairing might be the final straw.

I wish that was the only issue...beating GF, not getting the basic concept of paying rent like an adult, maybe a gambling concern too?

I was okay with the risk when we drafted him, and kinda got excited at the potential early in training camp.   At this point, I'm done with him.

I thought it was just normal college kid BS too at that point.  IDK the truth of of the GF situation but if that proves out I hope they don't try to keep redeeming him.
