Cleveland knew he was a creep but chose to overlook it. I hope that decision continues to haunt them for years to come.4 points

This thread is goofy. I guess some of y'all are newer here but if you see a post from @soisyou should automatically assume you're being trolled. 😆 No offense, I am amused.3 points

When a returning coach gets fired early in a season, it shows the owner probably thought he should have made the move at the end of the prior season. I doubt the flag badge had anything to do with the firing, if he'd won the game he would still be the coach.3 points

This entire team basically had 2 good seasons. Since losing that AFCC to the Chiefs they're 10-12. We'd probably both agree they should be better than that, but the other 31 teams don't give a shit about "should".3 points

No concerns at all. I'm confident that they'll win the next four and be sitting at 5-4 when they play Baltimore again.2 points

Biggest concern has to be the safeties. Both are slower than Sunday Easter Mass. Stone ran a pedestrian 4.62 at the combine. Bell is probably a few steps slower now. Those 7 interceptions from Geno Stone last year are fools gold. Haven't seen one play from Stone this year where is was in position to get one.2 points

As one of my friends mentioned, if the Bengals’ offense was playing against the Bengals’ defense each week, we’d be putting up over 60 points a game. 🤨2 points

and Kayvon Thibodeaux being out for the NYG is a bonus too. Giants still strong up front but he can bring it on the pass rush.2 points

Watson is one of the strangest cases I can think of as far as a promising QB ending up as a total bust/failure. I use the term despite him likely reaching around $300 million in career earnings. His first 4 seasons put him on a trajectory to be an MVP candidate. He made the playoffs twice and was a legitimate dual threat QB. Then everything began to unravel. He demanded a trade, sat out an entire season, was traded, was given the richest contract of all time, and then was sued dozens of times for sexual improprieties. A suspension followed and the combination of rust and injury has turned Watson into an albatross that neither he nor the Browns can escape from. Nobody deserves sympathy less than him, except possibly Cleveland for rewarding and enabling him. I still find it somewhat shocking to see him play so poorly after what he did in college and early in his NFL career.2 points

Yeah, the NFL has no power to compel the cooperation of the woman. The local police didn't file charges in her case so the league can't get info that way. They can ask Watson what's in the settlement but if he's smart his attorney has the document. Meanwhile Cleveland still has to pay him, though not play him. If they release him, all the guaranteed money accelerates to the year he's cut (or half of it if after June 1). They can't afford that so they can't even just tell him to stay away while they send him checks. It will be misery for them for a couple more years.2 points

Whole secondary looks like theyre in molasses. The 40 times might look good but they're playing slow.1 point

Burrow, Higgins and Chase are making up for a lot there. Adeniji, Carman, Sample (found a role but not a good 2nd round pick), Michael Jordan (gotta be the shoes) , D'Ante Smith, Trey Hill. Erick All seems like a great pick. Burton, not so much. Brown is turning into a good RB. Mims of course but that's the law of averages finally working in their favor considering the long line of OL busts. They sure are giving Tobin a lot of credit (and presumably money) if he's really just a rubber stamp.1 point

Too early in the season. That would be sign of throwing in the towel. I don't think anyone is ready to just give up yet after 5 games. Not every team has Lamar Jackson. So if they continue to play as well as they did we are going to win a lot more games over the remainder of the season. I think this is the first game where they really started to click on offense. Now its off to the races.1 point

You know what I was thinking lol? Hopefully they don't wise up and start Winston because historically we are just dog terrible against first timers and back ups.1 point

Agree . Alot teams will outbid Reed for his services so they'll go after a cheaper one... Guaranteed money will stop it. And so it goes. Draft may be the best option but then you have a rook learning the ropes.. They'll continue to go with these 3 as it's a cheaper method1 point

If Watson doesn't mind, they can send him off on vacation. But if Watson wants to play, the team has limited options. They can suspend him no more than 4 games for conduct detrimental to the team. And even that can be challenged in a grievance which the team would probably lose. The part I forgot is that they have restructured his contract a couple times to push money down the road. Thus his 73 mil cap hit for 2025. But it's only about 80 mil if they cut him with the post-June 1 designation. Then another 80 mil in 2026. So, if at the end of this season, they have abandoned all hope of turning him around, cutting him becomes thinkable.1 point

I think I see why the disconnect. You don't think this is a good roster do you? I believe this was Pratt's rookie year no? Can't say he was as good as he is now his rookie year, in fact he didn't start till week 6 that year. Dunlap and Atkis were not really the players they were at the height of their career, Dunlap would be let go the following year, and Atkins would get injured the following year and never really recover and ended up retiring 2 years later. Kirkpatrick was always mid and not worth much by the time Lou got here and WJ3 only ever had one good year in his entire career. In fact he was so bad Pacman Jones makes fun of him. Hubbard and Bates were pretty much it.1 point

Past two years we have 3. We need at least two more imo. And that's assuming Murphy Jenkins and Jackson all work out. (Still need another 3 Tech that is good at pass rush, since Jenkins is more a run stopper type, another DE to complement Muphy as well)1 point

OL is playing well and just like magic, Burrow and Co is killing it. Gee Zac, only took 4 years. Now focus in the g*d damn DL - yes I know we had 2 higher picks this past drfat but keep that coming.1 point

I would not say the cupboard was bare, I would say we did not even have a cupboard.1 point
-
Agreed and in fairness to Lou, when he got here, the cupboard was really bare on D. They had to use FA to build it afterwards, because there were hardly any home-grown D players worth a isht. Last year, they sucked and I think he'd be the first to admit it... way too many explosives given up and not enough playmaking. This year, they look terrible again (actually, worse than last year, even) but with some injured guys coming back, I'll suspend judgment before declaring Lou a bad DC.1 point

One thing different is that in previous years we were thriving on turn overs. This year not so much. Charlie Sizzle scares the bejesus out of me every time he decides to return a kick. He already has one fumble.1 point

At some point they have to play Winston. As much as I dislike the Clowns, they can’t keep trotting this guy out and expect their fans to be ok with it. Also, can’t they send him home but pay him and keep him on the roster? Not sure what the rule is.1 point

Salah wears a Lebanese flag on his shirt and….a few hours later…..fired. Woody Johnson, I’m sure has zero connections to Blackock and Vanguard; nope, none at all. Who fires a coach at 2-3? Woody Johnson had NEVER fired a coach in season before. Until Salah.1 point

Not sure why this has not been posted yet but a big plus for us. Was waiting for the Giants week thread and will probably repost there... Both listed as FP, Full Practice1 point

I actually dont think it's that strange. First I think he is somewhat of a product of Hopkins being his WR. When Hopkins left Watson's numbers went down. But more than that I think if you look players, especially at the QB position, guys that are out for more than 1 year consecutively do not do well coming back. Watson sat out a year in Hou then was suspended for almost another one his first year in Cle. Recipe for not being successful right there.1 point

I partially agree, you have to be vary careful with the '3rd contract' guys. But the approach should be to take each situation on its own merit. They had plenty of space for Bates if they chose that route. I think where they are old fashioned is they always seem to be 'worried' about not enough cap space two years from now "we will have to sign X and Y then so we need to save space" ; this completly ignores a teams ability to re-work current contracts, increases in the cap, etc.1 point
