Thier historic performance at the Monterey Pop Festival I would place as one of the top 10 live performances I have ever heard.
For me it's like listing "The Revolution"; the backing band for Prince.

Now, there is a potential Top Five Individual performer.

I think he's extremely talented and a hell of a performer (can go a little extreme for my taste); back in the day this sort of talk amongst my friends would be taboo. They were all probably closet Prince fans.

He's the most talented little fucker in show biz. And the 49 year old bastard is reportedly banging the twin backup singers who were with him... holy crap... those two were almost as talented as him B) :P

hmmm..I know my list is going to be a lot more of the now bands then the other ones.

#1 Staind Aaron Lewis is amazing. Amazing vocals and his lyrics definately speak volumes..at least to me. Last album wasn't as good as the others..but i no they will bounce back strong. I have seen them in concert multiple times as well. Awesome to see. I can't wait to see them as a main band.

Outside is probably my favorite song by them.

#2 Cold It was hard to pick staind over them. But scooter and aaron lewis are very similar IMO. Both great voices, but scooters emotions shines through even in his songs. I cant imagine how awesome it would be to be at one of his concerts. It's to bad i wont get the chance now that he is doing a different project that isn't very good.

A lot of good songs by them...but wasted years is my favorite.

#3 Smile Empty Soul I doubt hardly anyone on here knows these guys but they are a great band. It's to bad there going through some label issues or they would probably be one of the biggest bands out right now. Favorite concert i had ever been too. I got to talk to the whole band after the show and i chilled with the drummer before the show too. I'll try to get the picture of it. And i want to get the picture of the "impeach bush" sticker he had too. It was pretty awesome.

A tie between Silhouttes and Here's to Another. Check those songs out if you ever get a chance.

#4 10 years I doubt many have heard of these guys either. They only have one album out. But there lyrics speak some wonders and all songs are easy to listen to and have meaning behind them.

Through the iris is the favorite but All your lies is a amazing song coming out on the new album which im very excited about.

#5 Seether Great band. After i heard fine again on a madden i went out and got the album the same night. Been hooked ever since. I would hope there are some Seether fans on here. New album is coming out soon! Should be awesome.

Fine again and the gift are probably a tie.

#6 Tool My friend got me hooked on tool. Love Maynards voice. I don't like all the songs but the songs i like i love.

Schism is my favorite.

#7 Tesla Parents got me listening to this. I don't no a lot about them. But love song is a good song to listen to anytime as is caught in a dream but my favorite song is signs and any band that has a album called bust a nut is kickass!

#8 Pink Floyd I love some floyd. They are very soothing. Any song they have..i'll listen. Wish you were here is probably my favorite song at the moment by them another brick in the wall is a close second. Ill have to pop a cd in soon.

#9 Breaking Benjamin These guys had a helluva first album. Second one was ehhh. Regardless there still good and so cold is a song that i have always listened to and it never got old

#10 30 seconds to mars A very good band. Have a couple of good singles out. Beautiful lie is the best they have out now.

I doubt you will need to count any of my points for all of the bands besides floyd! But its cool! ^_^

Yeah I know you're just messin' but that's the same grief I've gotten from several others here.
Aside from a few who have posted the occasional newer band, all I see is lists made up of the same ol' same ol' "FM rock". Just because that stuff is "consumer-ready" doesn't mean there isn't all stuff out there as good as or better than that. I'm posting a so many here have stuck to the menu of choices that the corporate music industry decided they could choose from.
I've seen the menu and alot more..

Ever try a local or small restaurant or is it McDonalds, BK, KFC and Olive Garden every single time out?

Nail in my hand
From my creator
You gave me life
* also I adjusted the list for Radiohead ... they've gotta be top 5 if you are including them as "Rock" and right up there with Floyd when it comes to innovative sound.
You've got Radiohead but not Van Halen? You do realize just about every guitarist out there these days lists EVH somewhere as an influence. The first Van Halen album literally saved rock 'n roll from death by disco. Everyone seems to lump VH in the bubblegum category because of "Jump" but you kids need to realize what contribution that band made to music in 1978. Eddie Van Halen singlehandedly changed the face of music with his little 2 minute blurb called Eruption. Sure, it's considered old school now but let us not forget that he put that out in 1978. Van Halen deserves a top 10 spot on any list. Fuck, top 5.

yes, I am surely just busting your balls. though, I don't know most of the bands you listed.

I agree 100% about consumer-ready shit, which is why I don't really listen to the radio, and haven't in years. New music for the most part sucks ass.

It's gonna take me a while to develop my own list for this poll. Too many bands to consider, and too many ways too look at it. Best live act? Best albums? Groups I like to listen too often? One's I don't listen too constantly, but adore nonetheless? This is gonna be tough.

Mully,

Bro, after reading your post, I went back through my list at least three times and from an objectable viewpoint; I might have been able to of put VH in there with alittle work. But who could I move out

Yes, my list was composed with a slight degree of prejudicial favorites. If this were your personal favorites list, as some have done (I have listened to the Supersuckers on youtube; I am lukewarm
to them) my list would be constructed as follows:

Led Zepplin; AC/DC; Van Halen; Scorpions and Queen.

I am huge VH fan; hell I had a 1967 Dodge Coronet back in the day which I put a big VH on the hood.
As a vocalist (more on that later); the singers voice of groups is what draws my attention.
My fav frontman; Freddie Mercury, a youthful Robert Plant, Klaus Meine, Bon Scott and Steve Perry.
Yes, Bruce Dickininson, Rob Halford, Ronnie James Dio can belt out some tunes, but the afore mentioned (other than Scott) IMO, can manage/sell their voices better.

Having actually played several woodwind instruments within a band setting; I have been exposed to sheet musican and I have a little understanding of how each piece of an ensemble can compliment or
fuck up another. Everyone want's to blame Eddie for the break-up of the original line-up and say it was his ego; I say they are wrong and that it was Dave's ego.I may have been first-handwitness to this as mentioned in previous post. Edie's ego revolved around deliverying his music.
You may have seen this before ( I have actually seen this beforeseveral years ago):
AC/DC vs Van Halen

Where's Eddie?; had stated he did not like to do interviews.

My personal vocals; my first experience was "calling a round"or square dance. The song was "Red River Valley" with some words altered for the dance. Now, for "calling" the words are to be more spoken; I put my own twist on it with actually singing the last portion of a sentence adding a slight English accent (a friend of mine's momwas in audience and later she stated that she never knew I had this talent. But, I did have a problem (I had/have stage fright in front of an audience).

Calling the dance was easy because I was up on a little porch setting and all the attention was drawn towards the dancers and I was only in the fourth grade. A year later, I was selected to sing in the "All City Boys Choir"; However, before that I had selected to sing a song for the schools talent show
The song I believe was a version of "Greensleeves"; but I couldn't do it; I think I felt it was a beautiful song witha powerful melody on it's own and I didn't want to fuck it up. I subsequently declined the offer to singin in the choir. In later years, I would be singing Bon Scott AC/DC tunes partying with my friends; I would mimic Scott, but they wanted to hear my own voice (closer to Steve Perry resemblance); I wouldn't do it. I had a couple offers to jam with some local bands, but of course I turned those down too.

I think singers need to first have the talent then combined with an A Type personallity (I don't and that's why I am a photographer behind the camera and not the talent out in front). I alluded to this earlier where Jim Morrison required "false courage" booze/drugs to perform in front of a crowd. David Lee Roth did not. But, IMO, some of VH best stuff was when he put away the showman routine and focused on singing, like in "Little Dreamer" and "Women in Love".
