NEWPORT – Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver Maurice Purify was arrested on a misdemeanor charge of disorderly conduct overnight after an incident at Jefferson Hall, 1 Levee Way, according to the Campbell County jail.

Purify was booked into the jail at 2:16 a.m. and has since been released on an $80 bond, jail officials said. A court date was not available.

Newport police will not comment on the case until after 8 a.m. Tuesday, according to a Campbell County dispatcher.

Purify was signed by the Bengals in 2009 as an undrafted free agent.

Purify caught four balls in preseason, then made five special-teams tackles during the regular year after starting the season on the Bengals' practice squad.

The 24-year old from Eureka, CA played his college ball at Nebraska.

Report: Bengals receiver arrested after bar incident
By Ken Paxson | Tuesday, May 4, 2010, 08:09 AM

Maurice Purify just gave the Cincinnati Bengals a good reason to get rid of him.

The wide receiver was arrested on a misdemeanor charge of disorderly conduct after an incident at a Newport, Ky., bar called Jefferson Hall, according to a report by the Cincinnati Enquirer.

Purify, an undrafted free agent signed by the Bengals in 2009, was already going to have a tough time keeping a spot on the roster this season and I would think this will make it even more difficult.

The drafting of receivers Jordan Shipley and Dezmon Briscoe, as well as the signing of free agent Matt Jones, will make for a crowded battle for spots at wide receiver this offseason.

Yup time to make an example. Time to cut ties, and I think Briscoe is better player than Purify any ways.

Make an example of a guy that wasn't going to make the team anyway... I like it...

Anyone saying a guy should lose his chance at living his dream because of a disordely conduct is a moron.

He didn't do a damn thing so far, he maybe got in a verbal fight with some one in the bar and there just so happened to be a cop there.

This isn't a DUI or assault of any kind.

He shouldn't be treated any less farely then Chad ocho cinco. No1 here in their right mind would be calling for him to be cut if he got a disordley conduct charge, it's about as bad as a speeding ticket, calm down.

Im having trouble finding Chads arrest record. Thats because there isnt one! Hell yes he should be treated differently. Chad is a Playmaking game changer and Purify sucks! How many F%%%in times do these dudes need to be told to stay the F out of trouble. Disorderly conduct is quite a bit more serious than a speeding ticket. Sometimes you gotta know when to STFU and just leave because you have more to lose than some douchebag at a bar.

I think Sharper re-signed with the Saints yesterday. Oh, and he had microfracture surgery during the offseason.

A Bengals player is back in stripes
Posted by Mike Florio on May 4, 2010 9:48 AM ET

More than a few Bengals fans took issue with our recent suggestion that former Cincy running back Corey Dillon must be hoping to return to the team, given that he has been arrested twice in less than two weeks. And, in all fairness, Bengals players had stayed out of trouble lately.

Until this morning.

WLWT-TV, an NBC affiliate, reports that Bengals receiver Maurice Purify was arrested early Tuesday for disorderly conduct. The incident occurred at a local bar. Authorities reportedly will release more details at a noon Tuesday.

And the Bengals can't claim they didn't have reason to believe that Purify might get in trouble. He was charged with assault and resisting arrest while in college at Nebraska, and he was cited for DUI while on probation.

Not only has Sharper already re-signed with New Orleans, he just had microfracture surgery on his knee. No thanks.

Oops, looks like I was beaten to the punch. -_-

Not surprised Rumble wouldn't have known about this, since Sharper isn't a Brown. :P

What if he is innocent and was wrongly charged like Askew and Benson were?

Upon googling, it appears Jefferson Hall moved to Newport On The Levee. It did used to be on Main Street, though.

I was like "Newport? I've been there several times, its in OTR!".

Safe to say, I don't venture out much anymore!

Ha, no. I have a good friend that's the guitar player in the Websters. I've seen them play there, among other bands my friend Chris has been in over the years.

Any further information on what happened? I am a true believer that "Disorderly Conduct" is normally the charge that happens when you tell an officer that he is wrong about something that he's wrong about in front of other people.
