EnglishBengal
I know this got mentioned by someone a few weeks back. But the more I think about it, the more it makes sense. I think Clements could be our Rod Woodson and extend his playing career as a Bengal, as a more than effective SS. I wonder if the coaches would ever consider this move? But I like the idea. And if Woodson would be brought on as an assistant coach. What better coach/mentor could there be for this type of switch. EnglishBengal
I think he could play either position. He's equally as physical as Nelson.
Bengals1181
I like the idea in time as the CB situation gets fixed, but I'm thinking FS, not SS. I think Clements has one more year at CB though.
JBandJoeyV
Depends what happens in FA. Ideally you resign nelson and sign a starting caliber SS and a solid 2 or 3 corner. Then I'd use Clements in a sort of hybrid role. Mostly corner but also some safety on obvious passing downs.
mhfinks
clements has done well at CB... however changing him to FS IMO would be a great move if and i say if.... we address that positional need in the draft with a CB that can play now and pick up a FA - that can cover it as well.... Hall should be back.... I would count on it... as far as woodson goes as a coach... i would think that would be awsome... i doubt it... but i would love the move.... mt-bengal
I think this move would make a lot of sence for everyone involved, it would extend his career and help us at saftey but as everyone has said we would have to sign a free agent CB and draft one to make the move. fredtoast
I was surprised at how well Clements played this year, and his strength is his sure tackling. But he is 32 and could decline dramatically this year. If so then moving him to safety would be a great idea.
SocalBengalEd
I could see free safety but not strong safety.
JC
He was our main nickel corner this year. Unless they get a physical guy who can jam the slot receivers to disrupt timing in the draft or FA, he's probably not going to be making that jump. Lewdog
We fans always come up with ideas like this and the coaches never do them. Sounds good in theory but there are so many things going on in the background we have no clue about. If they would have just moved Tab Perry to safety a long time ago we wouldn't need one. His big money days are over so he might be open to it, but he could also easily decide he doesn't want to
MichaelWeston
Whitworth would not make a good safety because he lacks lateral quickness With that hilarious joke said, Clements at FS makes perfect sense. I have for a long time thought that the key to FS is getting a guy who can cover. Hell put 4 CBs out there. Find 2 guys that can tackle well and put them back there. The SS has to be on the verge of evolving because you can't hit WRs over the middle anymore. A hard hitting in the box SS might as well be a hard hitting in the box LB. Egg Shen
I more for finding a corner to start across from Hall and making Clements the nickle.
AZBengal
We really need help at the CB position and good CBs are hard to come by so let's take our best cover CB and move him to a different position. BRILLIANT.
The PatternMaster
Sounds like someone has been playing with the Bengals in franchise mode on Madden. I wouldn't do it because we have a good SS, Reggie Nelson. We also some young safeties that need to get on the field to develop, sitting on the bench behind Crocker or Clements won't help them improve. maanster
This team needs to pick up two corners (1 FA, 1 draft pick)Achilles injuries are worse than knee injuries. If anyone expects hall to pick up where he left off is dreaming. He may be able to return, but he won't be the same. Hall is the same size as Crocker, why not move him to FS. He is one of the more physical corners in the league. He would be a huge upgrade over Crocker.
MichaelWeston
Ia m pretty sure that Nelson played FS and Crocker played SS. Could be wrong though...cue 1181 to tell me if I am wrong....
fluhartz
only if they get a really good replacement for him via the draft or free agency... He is a good smart player though, so if a suitable replacement is put in place I think he could play the position well...
