So really there are only three empty slots left to be filled. #2WR, OG, and DT.

I would say the Bengals probably have around $10 million left in cap space to fill those three spots. I would be happy with Bell, Sims, and I'm not sure as far as a WR is concerned. Braylon Edwards or Jerome Simpson back.

they have probably at least $20 million left, but they surely don't intend to spend all of it.

Roth would likely replace Lawson. I like him though.

You forgot the kid they picked up late last year, Nick Hayden.

former Akron RB Nate Burney was in. Wasn't with a team in 2011.

Roth was an OLB in Miami, and I think he played some OLB in Cleveland as well. Albeit, in 3-4 defenses.

You are correct he did. But they were both 3-4's. I hope we use him as a DE. And I hope we get him.

Manny Lawson played SLB in the Niners' 3-4 before coming here. And Roth has said in the past that he prefers playing LB, although he wiilingly played end with the Jaguars. So, he has experience at both positions and has been a pretty effective player either standing up or with his hand on the ground. Would be great if they signed him to join the competition with Harvey and Anderson, or whatever.

Am I the only person here that thinks Jamaal Anderson is here to get snaps primarily at defensive tackle?
[/quote]

I brought up the idea but I think he will split snaps like Fanene did.

not at 272 lbs.

Meh. Who knows what his weight really is. I foresee him primarily as a tackle in the nickel package.

With Dunlap, Johnson, Geathers, and Harvey splitting up snaps at end, I don't see anything left.

Anderson was expected to come into the NFL as an Orakapo type.

No you're not Big Alice, and I think they're bringing in Matt Roth and looking at him as an LB.

Oh, I know exactly what he was "supposed to be".

Defensive linemen probably have the highest bust rate of any position group. Beware "one year wonders" and "combine phenoms". Jamaal Anderson was a guy who's production didn't match his measurables.

He's two things - big and athletic. He hasn't been able to develop the technique to be an effective edge rusher. My thinking is that, inside, he's quick enough to occasionally blow by somebody and he's well suited to chase play down when the pocket collapses.

As an end, all I anticipate from him is taking up space as a run defender.

I could see that... They used several DEs inside on passing downs... Odom, Fanene, Rucker, Geathers. They were all pretty effective, I thought.
