The Bengals OL is now 3rd in the league after 11 games. Still pretty good: https://www.profootballfocus.com/blog/2013/11/20/ranking-the-2013-offensive-lines-second-quarter/4/

Strong correlation b/w fast throwers (Manning, Dalton, Stafford below 2.36 to attempt per PFF) and pass pro. 3 top pass blocking OL.

How does a line that is dead-average in sacks allowed & 26th in YPC rushing get rated #3 overall...

A round of applause for Pro Football Fuckups, ladies & germs!

Not that I think we should be anywhere close to 3rd....but they probably attribute plenty of sacks to backs, TEs and Dalton himself. We are also pretty high in attempts per game. As for the YPC, TEs can miss blocks and I'm guessing BJGE doesn't get a great rating. Again, not agreeing, but I'm guessing that is how it happens.

Yeah they got it wrong by a mile and your dead right.

Consistently through the years this line receives good rankings. It's only the know it alls that are shocked!

An objective person would take this information and change the way they watch and evaluate the game. An idiot continues the same way of thinking.

Which are you?

Alright I'll bite and be the bad guy here since some want to post that kind of stuff.

What you have just tried to do is use proof that we won inspite of our QB proof that Andy is a QB, you realize that right?  It's fine to support Andy and all, but winning inspite of your QB is WINNING on the part of the rest of the team not proof that "He's not as bad as people claim."

This cheer is irrelevant to the context.  Of course if this was sarcasm, carry on.

We have won some games because of our defense, and we have won some games because of our offense (most notably Detroit and Buffalo).  And some because of both.

Scharm! Why you sure have been quiet around here lately.  I correctly assumed it was because so many were blasting your beloved O-Line, and the visual evidence was too much for even you to dispute.

Predictably, though, PFF throws out one tiny little morsel and you feast on it like it's the last supper.

In fact, PFF, which everyone but you knows is a joke, has the answer to their own absurdity right in these two very tweets, posted back to back:

My personal favorite is the second one, where, with a degree of befuddlement, they see "strong correlation between fast throws" and their 3 top pass blocking OL.

Ya think?

We have discussed this ad nauseum, but let's take another quick look.

If you know your line isn't strong, you're going to get rid of the ball quicker.  Hell, you may even craft your ENTIRE play book around this approach.  Manning's line is held together with scotch tape and thumb tacks.  Sure, Dalton's no Manning, but approach is the same.  Design quick pass plays to protect your QB.  Show me a team that has the most time per throw, and allows the fewest pressures and sacks, and then I'll show you a good O-Line.

While it may be right to suggest that the WCO already does this to some degree, to correlate quick release with pass blocking quality is a classic example of confusing cause with effect.

In fact, our own head coach, who is loathe to publicly lay blame on his team, has come out repeatedly in the last couple of weeks and done just that - at the feet of your beloved O-Line.  Must be pretty bad if it's come to that, no?

Either way, if you're relying on PFF to back up your arguments, you're standing on quick stand.  Then again, you've never really needed solid ground before, have you?

Ha the funny thing is if pro football focus said our line sucked you would completely disagree with them and say how full of shit they are. You've dug yourself into this oline debate back in 2009 and nothing will change your mind up now.

The point at the top that the top 3 rated olines are all on teams where the qb gets the ball out of his hand very quick is very telling IMO. Doesn't mean our oline sucks, but their ratings are obviously skewed towards teams that get the ball out of their hands quick.

For example if you had the worst oline ever and knew this so purposely threw the ball extremely quick, it would skew the rankings into thinking the oline was decent because sacks would be way down, hurries hits etc would all be down as well.

Now I'm not saying our line sucks, but more often then not when we don't throw to our first read I think dalton is getting pressured.

Losing.

What did I miss since cutting back on posting since the Halloween nightmare?

An endless circle jerk and pussy patting whining and crying the season was over because of Geno injury, Dalton sucks, blah, blah, blah

Glad you enjoyed it though. Ha Ha.

Ps: I'm glad know I'm missed. Happy Holidays an awesome O-line to you.

Your absence?  Naw, I enjoy your posts. I look at them like a little toddler, taking his wobbly first steps as he learns to walk. Sure, he'll fall some here and there, but it's fun to watch him try, and eventually, get there.  I know you can do it!

As for the circle jerk, I'm wearing my rain coat.

Someone gave him a negative rep but he's right. You're bothered by the losing, injuries, and bad play but then you come here and it's multiplied by a thousand. I usually don't make it around after losses... just patiently wait until the next game.

Learned the lesson 2010. Game day threads suck. Losing sucks.

But people are free to enjoy an NFL season how they choose.

Some people also need to change. If endless supply of independent analysis suggest the O-line is good. It's good.

I'm lookin at the man in the mirror, I'm asking him to change his ways.......

Wait.... but if Dalton takes the easy checkdown then how is how ever going to have a high QBR?

Who's how?

I bet you were so excited to type this and laughed uncontrollably to yourself.   Good for you.  Pat yourself on the back.  You got me real good with that one.   I'm actually so ashamed that I'm going to stop posting here anymore.

Don't be silly......what do all these independent observers know.   People on this website, you know the ones who continually post links from PFF when it backs up their argument, then label it as bullshit when it's against them, these people actually know the truth.

There is a vast conspiracy with in the NFL to make the Bengals OLine seem better than it really is.   You must be in on it.

Again, look at where you're getting your info from.....NFL sites and such.....no good.  3 posters' opinion on Go-Bengals.com....good.

ESPN playoff machine is active. I picked basically who I thought would win, with the Bengals winning out except for a backup bowl loss in Week 17 (2nd seed would be locked in my scenario). The Raiders beat Denver's backups in Week 17 to get an 8-8 wildcard berth and knock the Ratbirds out of the playoffs in the process :)

Being lazy but...

Using ESPN preselects for Home teams puts CIN, IND and NE in a 3 way tie at 10-6 and CIN getting the #2 seed with BAL being the #6.

Also, using Offensive rank puts CIN in the same three way tie at 11-5 with CIN getting the #2 seed.

Finally, using defensive rank has CIN winning out at 12-4 and #2 outright.

I like those scenarios.

Funny thing is... IF.

Please,  PFF do this one time.   So JB and Alleycat can finally jerk off and get some needed release of tension that's built up over the year of being flat out WRONG-O!

Yes, the franchise with 1 hall of Famer. Is clearly benefited from a media bias that ultimately has their players overrated.

Reading is FUNdamental!
