paul Kruger just released by the Browns. Could give us a big boost at the DE spot as a pass rush specialist.

Same thought I had when I saw that. He would certainly be better than Hunt for a couple years. Hunt is absolutely worthless.

Always skeptical about warmed over Brownies.  If he wasn't good enough to cut the mustard with the Cleveland Hueys...

Maybe A,J. Hawk part deux.

I fully expect the Ratbirds to make a run at F/A Kruger.  Their defensive line has been an embarrassment this preseason - the departure of Ngata and McPhee hurt them more than they had hoped.  But they won't have the luxury of keeping extra defenders after the cutdowns due to how decimated their TE corps have become.  Damn, there's not a single TE on that roster whose not hurt or on IR now.  They don't have enough wiggle room to add depth at both positions, so going with a known quantity like Kruger might allow them to shore-up the defense without needing any extra depth.

I don't think we need him as much as they do.

Bengals cut 11, need 4 more by Tuesday 4pm:

WR Michael Bennett
LB Jayson DiManche
DE Jack Gangwish
WR Antwane Grant
LB Darien Harris
K Zach Hocker
QB Joe Licata
FB Jeff Luc
TE John Peters
S Floyd Raven
CB Corey Tindal

Expect some/all of these dudes to go on IR/PUP:
Andrew Billings (Surgically-repaired Meniscus)
William Jackson (Torn Pectoral)
Cedric Peerman (Fractured Forearm)
Brandon Thompson (ACL)

Not sure why we cut Matt Johnson. I think he could have been good.

What are the rules on PUP list. Can that be anyone or people who didn't practice yet. Can any of our guys go on PUP, other than Thompson?

Just the guys that haven't practiced.

I'm a little confused about how the IR-recall rule works now. I saw someone saying that you can only use it down the line on somebody who was on the 53-man roster to start the year. So for the Bengals to keep their options open on somebody like Jackson, they'd need to cut down to 52 plus Jackson and then put him on IR and try to sign his replacement.

Not shedding tears for losing any of those guys (not the IR/PUPs). Especially that Licata. Watching him the other night was actually painful, he was so bad.

I thought you were done with the NFL?

That's what I thought.  I think BT goes PUP and Billings to IR and 2 more "real" cuts.  I think Take may be one of them to give him a chance elsewhere.  Unless they're still not sure about Erickson.

I am. I no longer look at the game with any belief in its legitimacy.

I just view it now with the same detachment I would if I were watching some other reality TV production.

Like "Pro" wrestling?  :)

Kruger to New Orleans, per Rappaport this morning.

A bit redundant because I have not been keeping up but just found this...

In addition to releasing Tate, the Bengals made several moves with injured players.

- Defensive tackle Brandon Thompson went on the physically unable to perform list, but could be eligible to return after the sixth week of the season. Thompson suffered a knee injury in the final game last season.

- Rookie defensive tackle Andrew Billings went on injured reserve. He suffered a knee injury during practice on Aug. 10.

- Receiver Mario Alford was released. He suffered an ankle injury in the first preseason game. If nobody claims him off waivers, he'll revert to the Bengals' injured reserve list.

- Kicker Jonathan Brown was waived off injured reserve. He'd been sidelined by a foot injury.

The Bengals didn't make a move with running back Cedric Peerman, who broke his left forearm on Sunday against Jacksonville. Peerman, the No. 4 running back, is one of their top special teams players and was picked for his first Pro Bowl last season.

Not sure how this affects the price of pastrami in Peoria but there it is.

If the Vikings waive WR/KR Cordarrell Patterson, I would take a look at him.

He has great size and speed (6-3 225 lbs.)

Only thing that worries me is that he has been in Zimmer's doghouse since he arrived.

He might just need a fresh start.

what in the past 12 years have you seen this team do that makes you think Tate gets cut?

they JUST re-signed him, and he costs NOTHING, and the bengals arent much for chopping cheap, veteran, role players who are familiar to the team/offense/whatever.

also cant imagine erickson makes our or any roster. PS guy at best.

It just shows that we think we know but don't know.

Zimmer's a pretty much a players guy.  I think you would have to be a pretty big numbskull to stay in his doghouse.  Pass.
