February 6, 20232 yr comment_1697932 Jones was measured with an 89 1/2 inch wingspan at the Senior bowl, the biggest they have ever had. Looked great the first day of practice, then withdrew.

It's one thing to pancake Jimmy the Future Bagboy and another to crush Myles Garrett on a regular basis.

Feels like a bust for a 1st rounder.

Jones is unlikely to go that high, even though OSU passed a lot and Jones didn't allow a sack last season.

Every draft I see highlight videos of guys like this, shoulder-bumping smaller guys or tossing them around so a lot of fans think they're some big hitter. (Maualuga) Then there are guys who are just faster than everyone else on the field. (John Ross) But like you said, everyone at the NFL level is big and fast. Worth noting both these guys came from the Pac 12 where the level of competition is a bit.. ehh..
February 8, 20232 yr comment_1698003 As a Tennessee fan I can attest that Wright was a part of an O line that protected Hendon Hooker very well but he's a project due to the offense Tennessee ran. You can see from the film that he operated mainly in space, with no hand in the dirt. Heupel's offense was largely a spread where O linemen are working in space. I wouldn't count on him starting in yr one and there's an issue whether he can transition to the pro game at all.
February 8, 20232 yr comment_1698004 Quote "Tennessee OT Darnell Wright is turning into one of those guys. More specifically, he seems to be improving some aspect of his game every time you watch him. Wednesday was no exception for Wright, who played very well this past season for Josh Heupel after a bit of an up-and-down start to his career. Physically, Wright has everything he needs to be an effective mauler in the NFL: size (6-5, 342), length (34 1/8-inch arms, 82 3/8-inch wing), and the ability to sink, bend and recover on the edge against quick athletes. In run drills here, he’s had dominant moments. His pass protection work has delivered some impressive stretches, too. Wright and Iowa State edge rusher Will McDonald IV (who had another good day Wednesday) had a terrific back-to-back, one-on-one set, in which Wright scored a clean pass-pro win before McDonald came back and got him with one of his signature spin moves. It’s important to note, though, that McDonald has been beating most guys here with that move on the first try. He needed two, in this matchup, to beat Wright. Wright has been one of the best offensive linemen this week. Wright was able to catch the country’s eye this fall with a terrific showing vs. Alabama’s Will Anderson Jr., and he has only gotten better since. The arrow is pointed firmly up on the Tennessee big man." Nick Baumgardner The Athletic It is worth noting that he handled Alabama's Will Anderson very well for 60 mins

And every team/scout/media hack/draftnik bought the entire meal. He was what he turned out to be: a very solid pro, who jammed up running lanes, and collapsed pockets. He was never a sack-master--and he wasn't at THE. The hype-machines placed a weight on him that he was never going to achieve. That bullshit of "never worth his draft placement" was disingenuous as hell. If the Bengals would not have taken him, someone else shortly thereafter would have.

You really can't tell who can and can't make the transition to the NFL until you draft them and put them on the field, that's why its such a crap shoot. And of course, there are laways tghe guys that consider getting a big dollar contract is the goal in itself; kinda like this guy:
February 8, 20232 yr comment_1698011 We could have gotten another teams entire draft for him. He was ok but I doubt anyone then would have turned out any better.

There were 4 Hall of Famers from that draft. Hindsight is 20/20 I guess, as 2 of the 4 were in the second round.

There isn't a cant miss on any Olineman in this draft.. O'Cyrus Torrence may be plug and play but its a class of essential potential..
