And the Blue Jackets??

Son and I like the Blue Jackets. Hubby isn't a real big fan. He calls the inability of the Blue Jackets to make it past the first round of the playoffs "The Curse of no Plan B".

It has to do with the county's efforts to have the taxpayers pay for an arena when Columbus was wooing the NHL for a franchise. They kept threatening that there was "No Plan B" if the voters didn't approve a levy. Voters voted it down (for the 4th time) and the day after the election, surprise! Nationwide agreed to fund an arena. (Which now taxpayers are paying for anyway through casino tax revenues.) :(

But you really don't want me to get started on the Columbus mayor or City council. Trust me.

Similar story in every town.

At least you will soon have Mike Babcock.  😬

The City notwithstanding, Franklin County is its own version of shit show—and has been for decades. The carousel of constitutional amendments for “casino goes here…no it goes there” is one great example.

But CBJ is a different sort of animal. Their eternal mediocrity has to do with abysmal upper management mismanagement. This goes all the way back to “Misser McConnull”(as Doug MacLean used to pronounce his name) and hasn’t changed a lot since. And, it has literally nothing to do with money.

Awful drafts…worse trades…and failing to get and keep quality coaching staffs—even when they have them (hello Hitchcock/Galland/Tortorella), have had them stuck in neutral with no forward gear.

This latest trade—while I do like the player’s skills—is another round-peg-in-square-hole. The last thing this current squad needs is another defenseman when they can’t score. But, they did only part with draft picks they would likely have botched anyway, so I suppose it’s OK.

Columbus continues to support this franchise handsomely…and when they occasionally do make the playoffs, have shown to be a fearsome force in the building. Gratefully, we will likely never have to be without them…but until the Flying Dutchman franchise management gets squared away, first round one and dones will be the best they can get.

The Blue Jackets subpar history over the past decade can be summed up in one word. Jarmo.  Caustic GM.  Bad decisions and pissing people off aren’t a path to championships.

Completely. I blame him totally for the departure of John Tortorella…although the cleansed version was that it “mutually agreed”.

He may claim credit for “5 playoff appearances, but one should contend it’s been in spite of him

Get that 1 seed & the rest should fall into place.

It would help if anyone in the AFC West could actually challenge the Chiefs.  They’ve dominated their division since Reid arrived winning 7 straight titles.  In the five years Mahomes has started, they’ve only lost 4 division games in total and he’s never lost to Denver.  Unfortunately, it’s not so easy in the AFC North or East.

That is too bad, wonder if the Athletic was thinking Dehner Jr was enough. I'm sure Jay will catch on somewhere else though. I hope Hear That Podcast Growling remains, not sure if that was an Athletic owned podcast or if that was something Paul and Jay did themselves?
