Changes :

WRs : TJ and Caldwell (think we'll trade Chad and resign TJ with the savings).
FB : Who knows. Wouldn't even guess.
C : Ditto
RT : Andrews (at a much reduced salary)
SLB : Draft again so I'll skip it. I do reckon we'll take Curry though.

Otherwise that's a pretty good and pretty solid lineup. I'll take it. No obvious weaknesses.

On offense at FB, I like Southerland, but a guy I really like is Heath Evans of NE - good blocker, runner, receiver, and really tough. I know Belichick loves him, but I'd definitely go after him. I'd take a flyer on Jason Brown at C (I prefer a vet rather than a rookie starting), with a high draft pick at G-C waiting in the wings for a year -- and Unger would be a great pick. I also think Stacy Andrews comes back, and at WR, I think Caldwell starts over Henry, and I agree w/Von Blade and believe that TJ stays and Chad is traded away.

On D, I wouldn't make any changes, as I would love to have Curry. Good news is, there's some pretty good depth at a number of spots now - Fanene, Rucker, Brandon, Jeanty, White, Lynch, David Jones, etc.

So mine w/changes in bold would be:

QB - Carson Palmer
RB - Cedric Benson (re-signed)
FB - Heath Evans (NE, UFA)
WR - TJ
WR - Andre Caldwell
TE - Reggie Kelly
LT - Anthony Collins
LG - Andrew Whitworth
C - Jason Brown (Balt, UFA)
RG - Bobbie Williams
RT - Stacy Andrews

LE - Robert Geathers
UT - Pat Sims
NT - Domata Peko
RE - Antwan Odom
WLB - Keith Rivers
MLB - Dhani Jones
SLB - Aaron Curry (1st round pick)
CB - Leon Hall
CB Johnathan Joseph
FS - Chris Crocker (re-signed)
SS - Chinedum Ndukwe

So the only person we signed was jon stinchcomb. Cris crocker will be making next to nothing and benson will not be getting a very lucrative contract. Beyond that Stinchcomb is not very good. Hes about as good as Kooista, so I would think this is terrible. This would barely upgrade the roster at all. Maybe 7-9 at best with this roster with Carson healthy. Leaves holes all over the place.

How about Curry at MLB and Jeanty at SLB.

Or Johnson at WLB, Rivers at MLB and Curry at SLB.

I like Dhani as a leader/mentor and stop-gap, but I don't think I want him starting anymore.

I'd be happy with this line-up fo sho

In a perfect world I'm thinkin we get an early second rounder (maybe even a late first) by taggin and trading TJ. In that case I'm taking Maualuga and letting Jeanty/Johnson take the SLB spot...then best C on the board followed by the best RT on the board.

Have you just recently become a Bengals fan? Do you know how often they bring in quality free agents? This is real life, not Madden.

Stinchcomb has started every game at right tackle for the last 3-4 seasons for arguably the best offense in the NFL. Crocker will be cheap but I think Benson will get paid more than you think. Curry will get a ton of money since he's the sixth pick. Re-sign Shayne and a few other players, sign all the draft picks and sign a couple more backup type free agents and that's just about all the salary cap. I'd like to see T.J. signed to a long term deal but I don't think it happens.

No team is perfect at every position. I don't see how you can look at this roster and think it's crap. The defense was damn good without 3-4 starters. The starters return, you get a 1st round stud linebacker, and another year of development for Sims. The defense to me looks damn good. On offense the line is improved drastically and adding Palmer automatically makes it 10 times better than with Fitz.

Why don't you post your own roster instead of just being a dick about mine.

I'm actually quite happy with Jones in the middle and I don't think Marvin will replace him anytime soon. He does a better job than people give him credit for and he was the leader of a dramatically improved defense. Curry is a much better fit at SAM anyways.

I do like Brandon Johnson quite a bit and hope he resigns as the top backup to Rivers and special teamer

I'd be cool with Evans but he's 30 and not really a long term solution. I think Jason Brown gets re-signed though. Baltimore would be retarded to let him go. Also I agree Andrews will probably come back for cheap but I don't see him getting healthy in time to win a starting job. Also I just don't think Chad will get traded. In a perfect world you trade the selfish Chad and keep the hardworking T.J., but I just can't see it happening.

QB - Carson Palmer
RB - Cedric Benson (re-signed)
FB - Daniel Coats
WR - Chad Johnson
WR - TJ Houshmanzadeh (Franchised)
TE - Reggie Kelly
LT - Jones/Collins
LG - Max Unger (2nd Round pick)
C - Seth McKinney (FA Browns)
RG - Bobbie Williams
RT - Andrew Whitworth

LE - Robert Geathers
UT - Pat Sims
NT - Domata Peko
RE - Antwan Odom
WLB - Keith Rivers
MLB - Rey Mualaga (1st round pick)
SLB - Rashad Jeanty (I have the feeling beating the Chiefs lost us Curry to the Browns)
CB - Leon Hall
CB Johnathan Joseph
FS - Chris Crocker (re-signed)
SS - Chinedum Ndukwe

Sadly, I think I have been persuaded that Aaron Curry is the right pick for us. I say sadly because I am almost certain he will be ranked as the best LB on everyone's boards and therefore be off the board should anyone before us see this as a dire need. I think Curry is the right pick for these reasons. 1) Collins played well enough to get a shot at LT. I think that solidifying the OL is the number one priority of the offseason. I also think that Oher was possibly exposed this year and is dropping. I am not certain that Oher, Monroe or Jason Smith would give us much more than a tandem of Levi Jones and Anthony Collins and I am fairly certain Andre Smith won't be available when we pick. If any of those other three tackles is seen as a surefire guy in the future I would want them over any LB. I think Eugene Monroe has the best chance to be that guy. 2) In Free Agency I think that we will target and get Bart Scott. I think we will overpay for him and he will end up playing WLB for us with Rivers at MLB. 3) Curry is the playmaker we need on defense, he comes without the questions of the other LBs and will come in immediately and make a difference. As I read more and more about the draft I get the feeling that the other team that will be targeting him early will be the Browns. They are think at LB, especially if they stick to a 3-4

Our top priority for the offseason should be fixing the O-line and making sure we have a decent running game. When you're 32nd there's no where to go but up but it takes work to get there. A new OC would help immensely but we might still have Brat.

Zimmer did a good job with what he had to work with and I'm hoping we will see continued improvement via scheming as much as new personnel. As he said the top issue for the defense is generating pass rush. For years, it was easy to move the ball on the Bengals just by running at Thornton. Someone like Bettis or Jamal Lewis would run through the hole and carry the LB with him. Sims is already a better run stopper than Thornton ever was. My concern now is facing multiple receiver sets. We have a good pair of starting CBs but without pressure on the QB, opponents can go to multiple receivers and attack David Jones or Jamar Fletcher in coverage. We definitely need a better nickelback.

In free agency, given our self imposed budget limits we should go after above average players at positions that don't get paid a lot. Those would be center, fullback, linebacker, backup QB, maybe nickelback, and kicker. If we pick up above average vets at most of these, we could draft a tackle if needed or use the pick on a linebacker.

I like Dhani, but I think he can be upgraded. I'd let Johnson start at weak and let Dhani back him up. Jeanty backs up Curry, and Hodge or Mays backup Rivers.

Uhh he torn a tendon in his throwing elbow and didn't get it fixed? He saw way too many doctors trying to get the prognosis he wanted? Just a hunch.

and most of them said no surgery, and as of a week or so ago he's about 80% (his words), was able to practice and make all his throws pain free, and barring anything quite unusual with his MRI on Monday, the small chance of surgery that still exists will be completely gone. Not to mention that they've always had a firm deadline of how long they could delay surgery and have him still be ready for camp.

THere's absolutely no reason at this point to think he won't be back by the start of training camp, if not sooner. Unless you just haven't been paying attention.

the idea that there is no reason to think that is silly. Some of those doctors said he needed surgery and at this point he is only 80% when not fatiguing the arm in anyway. I would say its 60-40 that he will be back for tc. But getting better all the time.

I'd love this if it happened, except with the money we save by letting tj walk I'd like to see it spent on a LT like Gross.

So you like the thought of an average to below average player being the center of our defense?
