He's arguably the greatest player … and perhaps the college game's greatest leader. Florida's Tim Tebow deserves the opportunity to play quarterback in the NFL, and there's at least one team willing to give him a shot — the Cincinnati Bengals. http://www.alligator...1cc4c03286.html Here's my message, and warning, to Bengals fans: Don't bet against Cincinnati selecting Tebow in the second round of the April 22-24 NFL Draft. Maybe even the first round. If it happens, history will repeat itself. Boomer Esiason — the Bengals' second-round draft pick in 1984 (No. 38 overall) — was about to enter his ninth NFL season in 1992 when Bengals president Mike Brown plucked University of Houston quarterback David Klingler with the sixth overall pick. The move sent shock waves around the league, angered Esiason and triggered his exit the following season. Esiason played for the New York Jets (1993-95) and Arizona Cardinals (1996) before returning to Cincinnati for his final season in 1997. http://www.pro-footb.../E/EsiaBo00.htm http://www.pro-footb.../K/KlinDa00.htm Fast forward to 2010 … Carson Palmer, 30, is about to enter his eighth NFL season. He needs a quality backup, someone who can be groomed to take over in 2012. Tebow is the ideal candidate. NFL Draft analyst Todd McShay said it best in an interview on ESPN radio on Monday. "If he's forced to play his first two years, it'll hurt Tim Tebow," McShay said. I can see the Bengals drafting him, grooming him and playing him when Palmer's career in Cincinnati ends. Don't bet against it. March 2, 201015 yr comment_866384 What? In the second or first round he says! If I were Marvin and they meaning THEY pick TeBag in the FIrst I would resign.
March 2, 201015 yr comment_866388 One major difference. The party was over for that group of Bengals before the 1992 draft. Sam was gone. Alot of injuries and turnover took it's effect on the Superbowl roster. I would also dispute it sent shock waves. Mike Brown wasn't evil yet, the fan base wasn't poisoned yet, it wasn't the front running pick but that pick would not be close to the blacklash if Tebow was selected in the first round. IMO, Mike knew what he was about to do to the Franchise. Gut it. IRS battle, Free Agency, Stadium situation. I think he knew the party was over for the group of 88 bengals left when he drafted Klingler. To mask it, he put on a rebuilding show. This group of Bengals just getting started. I would hope there is no way in hell he'd start the Qb grooming process with a first or second round pick.
March 2, 201015 yr comment_866394 If we draft Tebow anytime before the 5th round (or any QB really) I'll be highly pissed. If we draft Tebow in 1 I'm turning in my fan card.
No way we draft Tebow with the 1 or 2 pick, but i wouldn't mind spending a 3 or 4 on Tony Pike if he is still there to groom as our next qb.

How can you question Sam Wyche like that. . . former NFL head coach Sam Wyche, thinks Tebow is "one of the elite," and notes, "if this guy can't be a starting quarterback in the NFL, then I was in the wrong profession for a lot of years." :ninja?:
March 2, 201015 yr comment_866398 I don't know that Carson would be interested in grooming someone to take his job in 2 years. It's pretty absurd to think he's at that point in his career.

March 2, 201015 yr Author comment_866400 I asked Charles Fisher about his thoughts on the Bengals drafting Tebow . . .
I don't think it was Sam's fault he was a bust. They drafted him in 2004, and Sam, along with the entire Bills staff was fired in 2005. Every Coach has had a hand in drafting a bust or 2. Fact is, Sam has helped develop some great QBs. I am not really crazy about the thought of drafting Tebow. Or any QB with the anything higher than a 3rd round pick. But I am not going to doubt Sam's opinion on a QB either. He has been right a lot more than he has been wrong.
March 2, 201015 yr comment_866413 if he helps us win a Superbowl, i don't care who we draft. lets say Carson doesn't get us much farther in the playoffs like we've been doing, then i'd want his ass gone too. i want to win and soon.
March 2, 201015 yr comment_866419 As marvin would say...... In the first two rounds this would be "asinine!" Round three? If he is still there? Then....maybe.
There is no need to draft a QB. Any guy we pick this year will be finished with his first contract by the time we need to replace carson. So basically we would be grooming a QB for free agency instead of a back up for us. It would be a total waste of a pick. Also we can't have a rookie as our #2 QB now that we are a playoff team. J.T. may not be much of a QB, but at least he has starting experience in the NFL and won't freak out if he is thrown into the action at a moments notice.

March 2, 201015 yr comment_866440 June 23, 1982: -Vic Morrow and 2 other actors are killed on the set of the Twilight Zone movie by a helicopter blade. -Mudslides in Nagasaki, Japan kill almost 300 people. -"Ebony and Ivory" sits atop the charts. -Chick Ludwig last makes a correct statement, when he said: "Don't bet agaisnt the Redskins in the Superbowl this season."
March 2, 201015 yr comment_866449 The only thing I can't tell about Chick is whether or not he knows he's totally full shit. Is he in on his joke, or is he delusional?

Although I don't think Mike is ready to give up on Carson yet the way he did Boomer.

March 2, 201015 yr comment_866461 I think Chick is throwing darts at a board and hoping one sticks..so he can come back and say "I told you so". If we don't draft him, it will be "I never said it was a certainty".
