Man....

After watching his play the last 8 games I don't see how he can not be a starter.
Don't get me wrong, if he can that will be sweet, but as it stands I don't think he's stout enough against the power rushing we see in this division to play 40 snaps a game. But you can never have too many good defensive lineman, I'd add Fairley even if I think Atkins can play.

I like Fairley. I've watched a lot of Auburn games this year and love his attitude. But he's no different than what we have in Atkins. He's a pass rusher. He's not a 3-down guy.

I also think that Sims played extremely well since Tank went down. I'd rather go with Sims-Peko-Atkins and add a guy like Green.

Green's the best WR prospect since Calvin Johnson.

They are both about the same size...

Atkins has played very well as the starter if you ask me.
if I'm not mistaken, hasn't sims been the one starting in that spot?

Honestly, I'd have to check to see who's been getting the majority of the snaps between the two, particularly on running downs.

I posted this a while back...after I was researching some landmark legal decisions in the world of sports (Curt Flood and Andy Messersmith cases being two others).

You are correct: the courts did declare the draft invalid at least...unconstitutional at worst. The only way to allow for it, was by agreement of union and league in contract. That agreement just expired. Maybe there is some temporary injunction or interim understanding--as BBR says--which will allow teams to draft, just not sign contracts. To me, that would satisfy in principle the ruling in the Yazoo case--but would still restrict movement of player?

Doesn't do much good if they can't be signed and play though.
Assuming there's a work stoppage, and the Union decertifies, wouldn't they all be free agents and be able to negotiate with the owners as individuals since they're not yet bound by a contract? Thus, they could negotiate with the team(s) of their own choice.

I think that was the whole point of the Yazoo case...that no team had the right to "restrict movement" of a player via the draft.

Interesting thoughts. One never knows what could happen.

All I have read says the 2011 draft is the last official event that will take place under the current CBA, I havent heard any of the "experts" say anything about drafted players rights and if they can sign w/ whoever they want if their isnt an agreement. I have just assumed they have the draft as status quo and whenever an agreement happens the players report to their teams but I honestly dont know if that would be the case.

Bowers is hands down #1 for me, he could start right away and give them a real nice tandom w/ Carlos. AJ Green is #2, he's special and even though Simpson has played great its only 2 games and AJ is flat awesome, he has it all and he would give them a strong group of 4 young wr's. Robert Quinn is #3, he's a little light at 260-270 compared to Bowers 280 but he's got a lot of potential and could be a double digit sack guy. I say all this with the idea (not sure if its even a good one) that MJ is moved to SLB, with Rey and Keith as the other two backers, I think its time to see if Rey can handle the middle. I think it would work but I'm looking at it from the standpoint of getting the best 11 on the field. On 3rd down or passing downs we could have a front 4 of Bowers/Quinn - Geno - Carlos - MJ. I also love Nick Fairley so I'm sure he could be an option. I thought the d-line really picked up their play the last half of the year and I would love to keep adding to that group. I wouldnt take Peterson or Prince that early for us and I dont think there is a LB or OL who deserves #4 money so I think any of Bowers, Quinn, Fairley, or Green would be a great addition.

The CBA expires in March. But there was a provision in the current CBA that ensures that the draft will still take place.

If there’s a lockout, will there still be a draft next spring?

Yes, but it won’t be business as usual for the teams or for the players they select. With no CBA in place, teams won’t be able to sign players, and those post-draft minicamps will be non-existent. Also, in the absence of a CBA, the league’s ability to generate revenues from the new crop of big-name draftees will be limited. In other words, if you want to purchase one of those sweet new Jake Locker jerseys in the aftermath of his being drafted, you’ll have to buy one without his name on the back of it or wait until a new CBA is signed.

Hopefully the metric tons of cash lost through the absence of a new CBA will keep the chest thumping to a minimum come crunch time...

Signing a new CBA is like signing that first round draft choice... Should there be a lockout, Bengals fans will finally find themselves in a comfort zone no other franchise's fans can match. :P

Here's the final draft order - well, "final" for the first 20 picks at least. All 4 of the games that had the potential to impact the SoS "race" between us and Buffalo fell against us, resulting in our SoS surpassing the Bills', giving Buffalo the pick ahead of us.

Non-Playoff Teams:
1 CAR (2-14) [147-109 0.574] LW=1
2 DEN (4-12) [132-124 0.516] LW=2

4 CIN (4-12) [149-107 0.582] LW=3
5 ARI (5-11) [119-137 0.465] LW=5
6 CLE (5-11) [146-110 0.570] LW=10
7 SFF (6-10) [125-131 0.488] LW=6

NFC Wildcard #2: GBP is the No. 6 seed over NYG and TBB based on strength of victory (.475 vs .400 vs .344, respectively).

Draft order for the playoff teams will be based on:
1 - Round the team exited the playoffs (Wild Card exiters before Divisional exiters before Conference exiters)
2 - Record (worst goes first)
3 - Strength of Schedule (worst goes first)
4 - Coin Flip
(Super Bowl champ picks 32nd, Super Bowl loser picks 31st)

NFL draft order: Bengals had toughest schedule in NFL...opponent win % of .582
Not surprising:
PIT (12-4) x2
BAL (12-4) x2
CLE (5-11) x2
NEP (14-2)
NYJ (11-5)
MIA (7-9)
BUF (4-12)
IND (10-6)
SDC (9-7)
ATL (13-3)
NOS (11-5)
TBB (10-6)
CAR (2-14)

10 games against teams with 10+ wins, including 7 playoff teams, 4 division champs, both of last year's Super Bowl teams AND both of this year's Conference #1 seeds

Our opponents went 149-107 0.582
If you remove the games they played against each other (PIT/BAL/CLE=6-6, NEP/NYJ/MIA/BUF=12-12, ATL/NOS/TBB/CAR=12-12, IND-SDC=1-1) they went 118-76 0.608 against all OTHER teams.

With wins by Indianapolis and San Diego in the late games, the Bengals fell to the fourth pick in the NFL Draft. Buffalo's opponents finished with 148 total wins and the Bengals had 149. Denver was the runaway clubhouse leader among the three teams at 4-12 with 132 total wins.

Tiebreakers for the draft go by strength of schedule and not head-to-head. The weaker the total wins, the higher the pick. So that means it's Carolina, Denver, Buffalo and then the Bengals.

Among the names you're going to be hearing a lot about over the next four months — Georgia WR A.J. Green, Clemson DE Da'Quan Bowers, Auburn DT Nick Fairly, North Carolina DE Robert Quinn, LSU CB Patrick Peterson, Alabama DT Marcell Dareus and Nebraska CB Prince Amukamara. And oh yeah, there's that QB from Auburn that people are fixated on. I think his last name is Newton.
