Gun control

Because of the Sherrif and others focusing on political vitriol,
I think the most important issue has been over looked.

Gun control.

I for one am all for it.

I am sick of seeing shootings like last weekend, Columbine, Virginia Tech,
work place and school shootings ect.

I think every gun should only be able to be bought by a person that is licensed
after taking classes, and every gun should have a title or permit attached to it,
kind of like a car title. If you are licensed, and have legally bought a gun, but it is
stolen, you have to report it stolen as soon as possible. If not, you get your license
suspened indefinitely. And I think the age limit should be set at 21.

I think all guns need a GPS device (or something like LoJack) installed in case they are stolen.

I think no one, unless their job requires it, should be able to carry a gun in public.

I think all ammo and guns should have very high sin tax or some other form of tax placed on them.
And I mean a VERY high tax.

I think anyone caught with a gun in public, that isn't going hunting and/or has a permit should recieve
a mandatory 10 years in prison.

I think anyone that is found guilty without a doubt, to have killed someone with a gun should recieve
the death penalty. I also think that Death penalty should be carried out within 6 months of the conviction.

I think all guns should have better child safety mechanisms built in, like lighters have. Make them to
where they just won't work with little hands trying to operate them. Or a bracelt with a chip has to be worn
by the shooter or something.

I think all guns should have some sort of chip (part of the GPS or LoJack) that says where and
when that weapon was fired.

I think all guns that are found by people possessing them illegally, (not licensed) should be
confiscated and destroyed.

I think there should be a ban on all toy guns. I have not, nor will I ever buy any of my kids any kind of gun.

I think BB/Pellet/.Paintball guns should only be able to be used by childern over the age of 14. I think they
should also have to take classes and reciever a license before being able to operate one. And none of
them should be built to look anything at all like a real gun.

Basically, I am for any law and restriction that takes as many guns off the streets and puts them
only in the hands of responsible people, or no one.

Thoughts? Agreements? Disagreements?

I'm against the death penalty, but I like the rest of this.

If you and I can agree on something, that says a lot.

I just don't see how the Goverment can justify their stance on guns anymore.

And I don't see how the majority of what I stated can't be implemented.

Fuck the gun lobbyist by the way.

I agree with everything you have said... I know some people will say that if the gun laws are more strict then only criminals will have them. I disagree, it would definitely help keep them out of some of the crazies hands. I am also for all of the penalties involving guns being much more severe...

People who kill people suck. People who go apeshit on large groups of innocent people suck infinitely more. Government that stomps on the rights of it's citizens "for the good of the people" suck even more.

I don't intend to return this thread. Topics like this don't ever result in one side persuading the other to agree with their point of view. I simply wanted it in thread record that not all agree. Some disagree but lack the desire to beat one's head against a topic wall.

It's OK to disagree, but I ain't stomping on anyone's rights.
I just think their should be more done and restrictions.
I never said ban all guns. Hell, I only said ban toy guns.

I can't get on the side of unreal people that for whatever reason stockpile guns ("That'll keep the gubmint tanks and airplanes at bay!") but I also don't like having undue restrictions on firearms either. I tend to side with people that think that no matter how many restrictions you put on a thing, a drug, or whatever, the more restricted it becomes, the more coveted it will be.

That said, I think its time to revisit what constitutes a crazy person and what we allow crazy people to do, if possible.

Buying and owning a firearm should be treated as a responsible decision by a person that's knowledgeable about their use.

But I cannot favor lengthy prison sentences when there are too many loopholes in terms of possibly mitigating circumstances.

This is not an easy issue. I don't want to be like Britain in this regard, for better or ill.

i dont think ridiculous strict rules on guns will stop any of the violence with guns in any way shape or form, i'd say somewhere betwee 0%-1% of all violent criminals were "caught" with a gun previously in life, and most sentencing for violent crimes is pretty strict, banning stupid people is really the only answer.. and thats impossible..

and getting licensed consists of a few hours of your time and $75-250 for the class...

education is the best preventative tool for pretty much everything, drugs, weapons, etc..

who the fuck are the parents of the dude who shot the folks in AZ?

find them, you'll probably find some answers as to what the hell is going on with that dude..

From what I can tell stricter gun laws would have created one more hurdle for the shooters at Columbine, Va Tech and Tucson. Thats one more hurdle to potentially get caught or realize that maybe this is not the correct route to go down.

Besides that guns are used in many many suicides. Sure people can find other ways to kill themselves but the reason stricter gun laws would help that is because Guns are more lethal then other means.

This is it. All of this and what has been mentioned. However, even the best laws enacted will never do a bit of good if they're not enforced.

Nothing to see here folks. All is fine. Wouldn't want to stomp on people's rights to get guns easy
over other people being able to live, or anything.

If you really wanted to kill someone you could do it even with tougher gun laws in place.
[/quote]

You sure as hell couldn't kill multiple people in a short span of time though.
Unless you're name is Chuck Norris ...

Exactly. But what if you just kinda wanted to kill someone because you were really mad at that moment and didn't have something that lethal lieing around. So now you are planning this murder and the emotion of being so pissed or hurt goes away and you just tear up the plan.
