Jason
The company I work for had a great year financially in 2012. The site where I work made a profit of $660,000,000.00. I got my raise letter today. My performance review was "Exceeds Expectations" which is the best the company gives unless you do something super significant. My raise? A measly 1.65%! I was told the target raise for meets expectations was 2% but because our raises last year were given in April, and this year the raise is retroactive to our Jan 24 paycheck they pro-rated the raise for 9 months. Bullshit! We get a raise once a year. My salary after my raise won't even make up for the increase in Social Security tax this year. I have worked at this location since November of 2007 and all but 1 of my reviews were Exceeds, which aren't just given out, they need to be justified to the site leadership team and the best raise I have had since I started here was 2.65%. I'm pissed.
eva4ben-gal
Stop your fucking whining, at least your company is giving you a raise. The place I work has been on a wages freeze going on four years even though there are profits and upper management continues to waste money left and right. CincyInDC
I'm somewhat sorry, and I apologize to those who don't regularly read J&D but... A die hard Republican complaining about being shafted by the company? Priceless. Pull yourself up by your bootstraps and work harder, you lazy bum! Seriously Jason, if you want a raise you may have to play hardball. Good luck.
sois
Or switch companies, that's the best technique. Remember what Rasheed Wallace said: "As long as somebody CTC, at the end of the day I'm with them. For all you that don't know what CTC means, that's 'Cut the Check.' |Elflocko|
The last company I worked for cut everyone's salary by 5% just prior to filing for bankruptcy. Then, shortly after emerging from BK, the CEO and his cronies tried some sleazy shenanigans converting stock options into stock grants. This pissed off the creditors (owners) who forced the company into a hostile takeover. The sleazy CEO walked away with $32 million, everyone else got a giant dick in the ass. My wife and I both lost our jobs. Oh yeah, the company that financed the hostile takeover? Bain Capital. My current company gave no raises at all last year. This year things are looking better so I got a 1.5% bump with an CEE on my review (that's the highest level). But yeah, the irony is pretty thick in here right now... Tigris
If you can find a buyer, you can buy something for cheap these days. I just bought a place less than a month ago. Cheap. As. Fuck. I was once told that if you're not getting a 3% raise, you're actually making less because of inflation. Edit: find a buyer for your place, and you buy another is what I meant

Does the company you currently work for offer relocation expenses which might include moving company cost, loss on a house currently owned, house hunting vacation time, etc... ? If they do and have no penalty for quitting new job in relocated area after a short period of time then move under their dime.

The place I work has been on a wages freeze going on four years even though there are profits and upper management continues to waste money left and right. I am in the same boat as eva...and it sucks. i make a decent wage, so I am not looking to move on yet(been there for a long time and I like my job). If I feel I need to I will though... Sorry you feel like you are getting dicked Jason, but times are tough and companies can use that excuse too... even thought they are showing a profit.. |Elflocko|
Just checked out the insider transactions page for my company on Yahoo! In the last 6 months the CEO alone has cashed in stock worth more than $49 million. Glad to see my lack of a raise went to a good cause. :ninja: Jason, you claim to work for "Socialists" (you keep using that word; I don't think it means what you think it does), but it sounds like they do a pretty good job acting like American corporate whores. Welcome to Reagan's America, Jason... So where do all of you work? I work for a giant healthcare conglomerate that supplies behavioral and acute medical care all over the fucking country. Short answer: I work at a hospital...

-GoBengals-
i got no raises the first 5 years at my company. hell i magically got hired during a hiring freeze even. THEN, i got 6.5% raise 2 years ago, and a 5.325% raise last year. I am 4.5% away from the max pay for my position. So i will have to move to another job or department in the next year or two.. frankly jason, regardless of profits, there are probably people coming uot of college who cant find jobs or unemployed individuals who would do your job for less than you area already making, hell i have 3 co workers making 20% less than I am. my initial thoughts were: be glad you have a job be glad you get raises at all which sounds shitty, and it sucks to feel unappreciated or ripped off, but it comes across as a sense of entitlement, and isnt the soc sec "increase" just un-doing the lowering that bush did, so its simply back to what it was previously? and if so didnt you essentially, in your way of thinking, get an even bigger "raise" due to it being cut before? MULLY
A company I worked for here in Japan, about 10 years ago, showed a first quarter profit of 1 billion yen, FIRST QUARTER!! We came into work and were told we were getting a bonus. Went to our mailboxes and there was an envelope in each of them. Each envelope contained what equals to about 5 bucks. In this country, at that time, that bought me a pack of smokes and a bottle of water. This may sound ungrateful, but, I would rather they hadn't given us anything than insult us with 5 fucking bucks and call it a bonus. Fuck that!! We only had 5 days off per year, PER YEAR!! Yes, we had our regular 2 days off a week but that was it. Zero holidays except for 5 days at new years. I would have preferred if they had given us a fucking day off. They can take that 5 bucks and shove it up their fucking ass!! MULLY I no longer work there and the company went under because the CEO was stealing money.
