Here is a look at the Free Agent QBs. We have ties to 5-6 of them. I expect one of the 5 either Callahan or Taylor has coached to backup this year with Dolegola and Finley fighting for a spot.  This is in order of their PFF overall scores.

QB Age Starts 2019/Career stats
Hundley-Cardinals 26 0/9 49-45.5% 0-0 58.5
Mannion-Vikings 27 1/2 126-57% 0-2 35.1 Taylor w/Rams
Bridgewater-Saints 27 5/34 1,384-67% 9-2 99.1 Louisville
Daniel-Bears 33 1/5 435-70% 3-2 91.6
Moore-Chiefs 35 2/32 659-65% 4-0 100.9 Taylor w/Dolphins
McCarron-Texans 29 1/4 225-56% 0-1 63.5 Callahan w/Raiders
Keenum-Redskins 31 8/62 1,707-64.8% 11-5 91.5
Driskel-Lions 26 3/8 685-59% 4-4 75.3 22-151-1   IR
Allen-Broncos 27 3/3 515-46% 3-2 68.3 Taylor w/Rams Restricted (6th)
McCoy-Redskins 33 1/20 122-66-0-1 61.0
Siemian-Jets 28 1/25 3-50% 0-0 56.2 Callahan w/Broncos IR
Glennon-Raiders 30 0/22 56-60% 1-0 108.8
Henne-Chiefs 34 0/53     IR
Kessler-Patriots 26 0/12     No snaps

My thinking is if we get a veteran backup Dolegala goes to the PS and Finley is gone.

Sending one to the practice squad does probably make more sense. Unless they love one of the guys and sign a very veteran backup like Matt Moore.

I sure hope so, I've never seen an NFL QB struggle to throw a 10 yard pass like that.   Between him & Sample I have no confidence in their ability to build through the draft.  When you have coaches evaluating players instead of scouts you're going to end up with a bunch of projects.

Yet he looked fine in the preseason. It didn't make sense.

To give Joe every asset available is worth much more than $17 Mil. After the Superbowl Mahomes gave all the credit to Alex Smith for mentoring him as a rookie.

And we should give Burrow someone with a track record of mentoring young QBs. Josh McCown is probably the best at that and he'd only cost a couple mil plus incentives if he has to play.

Agree....wouldnt be surprised if McCown becomes a QB ciach and eventually an OC once he retires...

Right now hes a goid fit for any rookie to mentor...

He's going to be in rehab for a bit.

Considering the Bengals recent history with number ones, maybe they should hang onto Dalton as the starting QB and take the overall #1 pick in 2021 to help with Burrow's debut in the '21 opener after spending the entire '20 season on the injury shelf.

So you want to sign a 41 year old guy coming off a torn hamstring to be the backup QB?  Just sign Carson Palmer or Eli

Yes. I don't want McCown on the field but want him mentoring Burrow who should be on the field from the start. As long as McCown can do drills by the start of training camp, he'd be fine.

Dude is a broken down never has been.  He has won 23 games in 19 years.  One playoff appearance in 19 years. 11 different teams in 19 years.  Yeah, this is the guy I want mentoring Burrow, Jay Cutler’s backup.

It’s usually the mediocre or worse players that make the best coaches.
That said, I’d like someone a little better in case he ever actually has to play.
