February 17, 20205 yr comment_1610035 Here is a look at the Free Agent QBs. We have ties to 5-6 of them. I expect one of the 5 either Callahan or Taylor has coached to backup this year with Dolegola and Finley fighting for a spot. This is in order of their PFF overall scores. February 17, 20205 yr comment_1610036 My thinking is if we get a veteran backup Dolegala goes to the PS and Finley is gone.

February 17, 20205 yr comment_1610038 My hope is for Matt Moore as Burrow's back-up and Dolegala to practice squad.

I sure hope so, I've never seen an NFL QB struggle to throw a 10 yard pass like that. Between him & Sample I have no confidence in their ability to build through the draft. When you have coaches evaluating players instead of scouts you're going to end up with a bunch of projects.

Yet he looked fine in the preseason. It didn't make sense.

February 17, 20205 yr comment_1610046 Josh McCown comes to mind... I know hes 40 but hes still got game and hed be a wonderful mentor....

After the Superbowl Mahomes gave all the credit to Alex Smith for mentoring him as a rookie. And we should give Burrow someone with a track record of mentoring young QBs. Josh McCown is probably the best at that and he'd only cost a couple mil plus incentives if he has to play.

Agree....wouldnt be surprised if McCown becomes a QB ciach and eventually an OC once he retires... Right now hes a goid fit for any rookie to mentor...

February 18, 20205 yr comment_1610115 Thought you meant he failed multiple drug tests. He's rehabbing from his torn hammy but will be back before training camp.

February 18, 20205 yr comment_1610142 They said 6 months to heal which would have him back in early July.
February 20, 20205 yr comment_1610249 Considering the Bengals recent history with number ones, maybe they should hang onto Dalton as the starting QB and take the overall #1 pick in 2021 to help with Burrow's debut in the '21 opener after spending the entire '20 season on the injury shelf.

February 20, 20205 yr comment_1610279 I've always liked McCown but having watched him get injured live while simply trying to play the game convinced me right then and there that nobody should be relying on the guy for any kind of on-field help. He very much looked like an over-the-hill QB.

I don't want McCown on the field but want him mentoring Burrow who should be on the field from the start. As long as McCown can do drills by the start of training camp, he'd be fine.

Dude is a broken down never has been. He has won 23 games in 19 years. One playoff appearance in 19 years. 11 different teams in 19 years. Yeah, this is the guy I want mentoring Burrow, Jay Cutler’s backup.

It’s usually the mediocre or worse players that make the best coaches. That said, I’d like someone a little better in case he ever actually has to play.

February 21, 20205 yr comment_1610332 Ryan Finley will be the backup, I seriously doubt they are going to pay 6-8 million to player to not play when they can pay a guy $500k for the same role. If they do bring in a FA, I think Sean Mannion would be the guy because he worked with Taylor in LA when Taylor was the QB coach.
