I_C_Deadpeople Posted March 12 Report Posted March 12 Cravens got 4 compensatory picks and we got zero. Guess which FO runs a better football team? Quote

BBR Posted March 12 Report Posted March 12 To be fair, those athleticism numbers for Gunnar Helm should all be thrown away. Dude snagged his foot on the first 40 run when he slowed down after they blew the whistle on him for rolling his start. He gave himself a high ankle sprain and toughed it out to do all of the testing instead of shutting it all down like he should have. If anything, he should be applauded for toughing it out even though it was going to cause his numbers to be off. If you were watching the combine, there were a lot of guys that 'slipped' or had some sort of poor footing right around the 10 yard mark where he injured himself. Quote

Seems to be a poor man's version of Mike. We have that in Tanner Hudson.. Another Eric All type would seem to be a better fit.. Quote

Maybe take a look at the receivers and tight-end but I think they'd have to go undrafted for the Bengals to be interested in them. 2 Quote

Living in TX, I've seen him play quite a bit. Really like his game and he's an underrated athlete. He was a guy that really had Sark'a and Quinn Ewers' trust as a receiver, and he's a big bodied guy who can block some, too. Quote

I_C_Deadpeople Posted Saturday at 04:51 PM Report Posted Saturday at 04:51 PM Interesting tidbit from PFF, not advocating for the player, just an interesting note on schemes. The article lists a few players who have a lot of versatility. Edge Nic Scourton, Texas A&M This is a sneaky one and a great example of how the transfer portal can expose prospects to vastly different schemes. During his combine media session, Scourton explained how Purdue built its defense around his edge-rushing skill set in 2022 and 2023, while Texas A&M in 2024 asked him to play more 4i alignments (lining up on the inside shoulder of the offensive tackle) with a strong emphasis on run defense. At Purdue, Scourton thrived as a pass rusher, earning a 90.9 pass-rush grade, the eighth-best in the country, while racking up nine sacks, seven quarterback hits and a 21.3% win rate. In 2024, his sack total dipped to four and his win rate dropped by four percentage points, but he also cut his missed tackles in half, from 12 to six. Scourton’s ability to contribute both as an edge rusher and along the interior will make him highly coveted. Though he slimmed down to 257 pounds for the combine, he noted that his normal playing weight is around 285 pounds, further showcasing his versatility for NFL teams looking for a hybrid defensive lineman. T-Dub Posted Sunday at 11:23 PM Report Posted Sunday at 11:23 PM Haven't picked a LB in the first round since Keith Rivers in '08. He was OK but 9th overall? Oof. Then there's David Pollack in '05. 17th overall. Not bad before he broke his neck trying to spear someone but probably a bit of a reach in hindsight. Have to go back to Spikes/Simmons in '98 before that. 13th & 17th, respectively. Quote
New Jersey Bengal Posted Sunday at 11:29 PM Report Posted Sunday at 11:29 PM Pollack was going to be a stud if not for his injury Quote
alleycat Posted Monday at 12:32 AM Report Posted Monday at 12:32 AM 1 hour ago, New Jersey Bengal said: Pollack was going to be a stud if not for his injury He was also pretty much the only time we ever truly tried the LEO experiment. IIRC, he had an INSANE 3-cone time, so had that rare blend of Edge prowess to go with great agility. He was more of a stretch than some of the guys we see and talk about today (Micah Parsons, Jason Walker and maybe Jihaad Campbell in this year's draft), but in terms of having 1 player at each level that can play multiple levels ( ED/LB, LB/S), I'm always hoping we can have one of those guys on the team. When done right, they are almost like a cheat code. . Quote
alleycat Posted Monday at 12:39 AM Report Posted Monday at 12:39 AM OK, so a provocative question: Deone Walker was widely projected to go top 5, certainly top 10 a year ago. Now he's dropped out of the second round. He revealed at UK's pro day that he had a broken back this entire season. He was dominant the last couple of years on tape, but not this year, and so he dropped big time. Was he just mailing it in to get draft eligible, and so a major loafer and/or character risk, or do you believe him and take the risk? He ran a slow 40, and even though that wasn't his game, he's clearly not the athlete that Kenneth Grant is, and I love me some Grant...who, sadly, may now be less likely after the TJ Saunders pick up. Thoughts? Quote
I_C_Deadpeople Posted Monday at 01:06 PM Report Posted Monday at 01:06 PM The Athletic has a new 'consensus' Top Board: Our consensus Big Board combines rankings from a wide range of NFL Draft experts to identify how the top prospects are viewed relative to the rest of their class. In theory, by the time we reach draft weekend, these rankings should help give us a handle on how the picks could (or, at least, should) play out. The previous consensus board laid out the top 100 prospects before the combine. How did all the workouts in Indianapolis impact the rankings?
