Recommended Posts

When was the last time mike brown pitched over 40m for a corner?? I know damn well jjoe is gonna want to get paid hella. One thing that bothers me is that 49ers corner nate clements is getting paid like a top corner and hes shitty. So lets see how this plays out.

Despite rumors to the contrary, NFL teams are indeed allowed to proactively approach their young players for contract extensions this offseason.

Cincinnati made two proposals to fourth-year cornerback Johnathan Joseph in the last week. Joseph isn't even publicly complaining about them!

"It shows positive signs," Joseph told ESPN's James Walker. "It's one of those things that hopefully we can get it done. But if not, I'm here for the rest of this season and I'm focused on this season. I'm not that worried about it, but it's one of those things you'd like to get behind you."

In Joseph and Leon Hall, the Bengals arguably have the best young cornerback duo in the league. They are certainly the most affordable, due to make $2.5 million combined this year.

When was the last time we had a corner worth paying 40 million? over the last 6 years, I can think of a bunch of guys that Katie has paid, and they all were within the market. Carson, Chad, Whit, Peko, Crocker, Geathers, Big Willy, Levi, and Rudi all got deals that were market reflective. Even TJ's second deal was market reflective, and so was the offer they made him to come back, hell, he even said it. They like J Joe and they'll pay him market. His question will be will someone pay him over market like Minnesota did Madiue or San Fran did Bustin.

Why do authors still feel the need to take pot shots at the Bengals that show they have done absolutely no research? It's lazy journalism. I was a better journalist in high school.

that didn't have anything to do with the Bengals. It was in reference to Logan Mankins of the Patriots complaining that the team only offered him $7 million/year, and about all the other contract disputes players are complaining about lately.

Talks right now are in the preliminary stages, but the team has been known to lock up some of their young players to deals between now and the end of training camp in past seasons.

Sportstars, the firm that represents Joseph, could be a firm to watch when it comes to future Bengals negotiations. Besides Joseph, they represent center Kyle Cook and linebacker Brandon Johnson. Cook and Johnson are both on one-year tender deals.

Yeah, I read about Mankins' comments yesterday and I doubt he plays another down as a Patriot. He basically called Robert Kraft and Bill Belichick liars who reneged on their word to give him a new deal after 2009. Pretty crazy to think $7 million a season for any offensive guard would generate such a reaction.

When cornerback Johnathan Joseph said last month that the club had approached him about extending his rookie contract, he said he wanted to keep it in the background because he thinks keeping it out of the headlines will help get a deal done.

On Tuesday he said he remains confident that a deal is going to get done, although it will be in competiton with first-round pick Jermaine Gresham. But the Bengals have a track record of extensions getting done before and during training camp, most recently Andrew Whitworth and Domata Peko.

Joseph's low-key approach is in stark contrast to to the beehive of activity involving strong words and holdouts involvling many players heading into free agency. Joseph remembered how Ochocinco came to all the voluntary workouts in 2006 and 2007, but stopped coming the next season because of displeasure with his contract.

"Everybody is different. Not everybody has the same situation," Joseph said. "I'm just trying to have the best year I can have."

He said there isn't resentment in the locker room about The Ocho's voluntary absences.

"Everybody's grown men. It's mandatory and he's here. What more can you ask?"

I'd bring jj and leon into a room together, and offer them both the exact same contract, and tell them they want to make them the best corner duo in the history of the nfl, offer them 8-9 year 100 million dollar deals.

I know 8 years 100 million may sound crazy, but it's not really for a corner, and they'll be cheaper then hell in 3-4 years. Jut give them less garaunteed more in the 20-25 million range.

Idk i think it would generate a ton of good pubicity, plus leon and jj would have shared bragging rights for being the 1st 100million dollar corners.

Not to mention getting their deals done before Revis i think are great ideas.

Why not Leon too? If you are looking at jamming a boatload of cash in the uncapped year...you can do it for him as well.
I appreciate the sentiment only too well, but Leon has to be at least 3rd on the list of guys to re-sign. JJ and Ced are higher priorities because they are entering the last year of their deals.

Leon has 2010 and 2011 still left on his rookie deal.

I don't think Mike "always" pays his own and he definitely doesn't discriminate against d-bags. Willie, Levi, and Rudi were all d-bags in many ways. And he didn't give long-term deals to a number of players, including Justin, Steinbach, Stacy, TJ, and Shayne.
