After Week 1--Impression of Replacement Refs

I don't think Tate even remotely had possession of it. He was just touching it. The defensive back has it clutched in both arms against his chest. Tate's arms are full extended just touching it trying to pull it away from him. Just awful.

Tate didn't catch it but he is one heck of an actor.

To be accurate...

1 - Tate pushes #37 square in the back and he goes to ground (blatant offensive PI)
2 - Jennings pin points it higher, with 2 hands, and pulls it to his chest, while Tates left hand MAY be between the ball and his chest (you're talking conclusive video and you can't see where Tate's left hand is).
3 - Tate takes his right hand, and moves it down around Jennings' right arm in an attempt to gain possession... all while Jennings still has 2 hands on the ball and it pulled to his chest.
4 - At this point the ball is now covered and unviewable...
5 - Tate is laying on ground, Jennings is laying on top of Tate, with the ball pulled tight to his chest, and Tate reaching ALL the way around Jennings side attempting to show "possession"...

And, from that they determine Seattle gained possession... this is just about like the Denver / Atlanta game last Monday Night... you see possession (or the closest thing to possession) by one team and somehow magically the home team ends up with "possession" when there is never any clear view where said team EVER had anything close to what would be considered possession.

On last night's play... lets go with the assumption that Tate did gain possession and it is a TD... Green Bay should still have the option of accepting an offensive pass interference call and making Seattle replay the down. Oh wait, time expired, and since a game CAN end on an offensive penalty the game is over. The Tate push off is OBVIOUS as hell and indisputable.
I agree with the offensive PI, and think it was a pick.

5 is unknowable because of the way they are lieing
3 Is an assumption that he still has firm control
2 Is a great point that you can't see Tates hand

You get in these moods where you are really pouty and flippant for no reason. For someone who aspires to and donates his time to make this place a welcoming and educational environment for all Bengals fans I expect more consistency.
I'll give you flippant. And I'll wear it with pride.
But pouty? lol SMH.

No, I don't get in any moods. I read stupid shit, then I respond to it.
Don't like that? Then stop saying stupid shit. It's that simple.

I expect someone that watches football and comes here to talk about it,
to know what an Interception looks like.

Don't expect anything from me, when you yourself can't be counted on for something
even Stevie Wonder could see.

I love this league and love the game of football, but tonight’s debacle hurts me greatly. This is NOT the league we’re supposed to represent

Ironic that our league punishes those based on conduct detrimental. Whose CONDUCT is DETRIMENTAL now?

Packers fans protest at Lambeau Field

Posted by Michael David Smith on September 25, 2012, 10:11 AM EDT

The protests have begun from angry Packers fans who are demanding that the NFL end the referee lockout, after a Monday night debacle in which the replacement officials gave the Seahawks a touchdown on the final play — and gave the Seahawks a game that the Packers thought they had won.

A small group of Packers fans turned out at Lambeau Field this morning, holding signs demanding that the regular officials return.

“I’m disappointed with the integrity of the game,” Packers fan Tyler Detke told the Green Bay Press-Gazette as he stood outside the stadium holding a sign denouncing the NFL.

With fans holding up signs with slogans like “We were robbed in Seattle,” cars driving by on Lombardi Avenue honked their horns in support.

“We’re trying to get the refs back. With the refs that we have now, they’re not qualified to do the job like the other refs are. They’re high school and college officials,” Packers fan Seth Wagnitz said. “We really need the refs back because now it has cost us a game and that shouldn’t be happening.”

A protest in Green Bay will obviously be met with support, but the people who need to make the decisions to end the lockout aren’t in Green Bay. So far, there’s been no indication that NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell is listening to the fans.

On watching it one more time, I also notice that the refs look at each other, clearly both looking for reinforcement, and when the ref on the right (the black guy) motions to lift his arms (to say time expired (i.e. interception), the ref on the left goes TD. Seems he was just going to ape whatever the other guy did, and he saw the arms raising and...Ooops.

Too bad the black ref didn't just point an arm in the other direction to signal change of possession.

Wisconsin politicians come together, weigh in on Seahawks-Packers

By Josh Katzowitz | Blogger

We watched in disbelief Monday night when the Seahawks “beat” the Packers on a last-second “touchdown” that occurred on a “simultaneous catch” between Seattle receiver Golden Tate and Green Bay safety M.D. Jennings.

We laughed and cried at the best Twitter reactions, including those profane comments that emanated from the Packers locker room.

But we haven't yet heard from the Wisconsin politicians who will try to gain some political traction off the issue while defending their home-state team from the evil tyrannies of the NFL owners.

Until now.

Wisconsin state representative Jon Erpenbach, a Democrat, tweeted what he said was Roger Goodell's direct phone number three times after the game and said his constituents should ring up the NFL commissioner and leave him a message.

“If tonight's game doesn't make the NFL settle with the real refs(,) this season will be a joke,” Erpenbach tweeted.

Not to be outdone, Gov. Scott Walker, a Republican, tweeted the following: “After catching a few hours of sleep, the #Packers game is still just as painful. #Returntherealrefs”

The catch there, of course, is that Walker has proven himself not to be such a big fan of unions (you might recall a certain recall effort that he survived in Wisconsin), and with that tweet, he's openly supporting the real officials and their union.

But here's the good news: if there's anybody that can bring together our political parties in these caustic times, it's the replacement referees, their incompetent performances and the stubbornness of the NFL owners who keep the real officials locked out.

Maybe when the lockout is over, we can send those replacements to Washington to get some things done.

seems to me the black (for lack of better description) official looked at the other official for confirmation that they were on the same page and thought they were in agreement. While looking down he sees the other guy start to raise his hands. He raises his hands too to signal touchback in agreement and then shows a look of surprise that the 2nd guy is actually calling it a touchdown.

For whatever reason, the two of them never get together to discuss it which is what absolutely should have happened. All of the officials should have gotten together before any call whatsoever was made.

Agreed. That's the key factor. Calling a TD right out of the gate and then going to replay without discussion absolutely fucked the Packers.

Now it's evidence to overturn a score which in a cluster of people is a hard task.
mentioned this a few posts up. Here's the rule.

Section 2 Extraordinarily Unfair Acts
COMMISSIONER AUTHORITY
Article 1 The Commissioner has the sole authority to investigate and take appropriate disciplinary and/or
corrective measures if any club action, non-participant interference, or calamity occurs in an NFL game
which he deems so extraordinarily unfair or outside the accepted tactics encountered in professional
football that such action has a major effect on the result of the game.

Jinx 1181. I'm on my phone or I would have gotten it on faster. Lol.
And does anyone notice the seahawks glove not on the ball ? That would be Tates.

fwiw, unless Tate dslocated his arm (and it turned white), that's not his arm, and watching the replay on ESPN right now it is clearly the other WR (#14).

Should be interesting to see what the nfl says in their statement today.

There's a rule (rule 17) that states the commissioner can step in with a case of extreme unfairness and overturn a decision.
Its not like Golden Tate was nowhere near him. I would be very surprised if they used that rule.

That made me spill my oatmeal!!! HAHAHAHA

But seriously, please bring the real refs back. At this point, I don't care if the Bengals get screwed on a questionable call in the future, I just want the right guys back so that the call is reffed properly.
