Updated thread title: Gruden staying with Bengals

Recommended Posts

Somebody has to answer for AJ not getting a single fucking target in the first half. Gruden can go as long as MB doesn't hire another Jay Gruden. Get a real OC, a real HC, I would be fine with Zimmer as HC, if they get another real DC to replace him. But why would anybody expect MB to fire Marvin after 2 consecutive play-off seasons when he extended him after going 4-12? There has been a few HCs fired even consistently making the play-offs, but not winning any play-off games and rightfully so. Their job isn't to make the play-offs, it's to win the Super Bowl. So Marvin not even getting past the firt round after 10 years is a fail. But my ramblings are moot since he hasn't had to be accountable given the extensions he's gotten in that time.

If I was MB:

Promote ML to GM
Zimmer to HC
Get a new experienced OC and DC
Let Maualuga walk
Sign a Crocker type that can stay healthy.
Sign a WR vet like Vincent Jackson.
Let the OL grow up in the middle and put Trevor at Center.
Keep Josh Brown
Dump Tate
Draft a return specialist WR ala Percy Harvin or maybe a Chris Rainey type RB.
Also draft at: LB, S, CB, RB, not necessarily in that order.

Pretty much exactly what I would do if I was running the show. I would add:

-move Burfict to starting MLB.
-resign Andre and MJ.
-Cut ties with Leonard, BJGE and Scott. Draft a pair of mid-round RBs and let them battle it out.

Wasn't Urban a name for OC at one time? I know he is our WR coach now. But, I thought he came from Philly and I think he has been a QB coach too. He would know WC offense from Andy Reid. Maybe he is promoted if Griden leaves?
I'd imagine he would be the one promoted. That, or Zampese moves up and Grudent moves to QB Coach, which he also was in Philly.

Andy Reid had tabbed him as his offensive coordinator in waiting in Philly. He got tired of waiting and came here.

This is what bothers me...

Remember Andy rolling out after a rush and he hits Hawkins right in the hands but it's swatted down? In what league, in what age group, does a WR stop and wait for the ball ESPECIALLY when he's being tailed? That play may have upset me than any last Saturday. Pure ridiculousness.

Andy didn't play a bad game. He didn't play great either, but I thought he played good enough to win it. Gresham, Hawkins, and Gruden failed us IMO on offense.

I would keep Law Firm and use him in a less critical role like the Pats did.

Here is an interesting Cardinal "Head Coach Search Tracker"...gives the names they have contacted and interviewed or are interviewing:

Looks like Haley and Ray Horton "want it bad". Would have to think that, unless Jay wows them out of the park, he's just another name on a list.

I wonder if the era of high-powered offense has devalued the defensive coordinator as head coach. Right or wrong, the stigma seems to exist that defensive guys can't have good offenses.
Chicago has lined up 13 interviews for their head coaching job. Of the 13, only Mike Singletary is a defensive guy. The rest consist of one Canadian head coach, a bunch of offensive coordinators, and a few special team coordinators.

That seems to be because they are comfortable with the defense. I think they have already said their D-Coord is staying no matter who the new coach is.

I would love to see Ray Horton as a head coach. I think he could do well, if Az can land a QB.

He may just be the token black guy in the interview process in the new NFL...he most likely won't get the job.

How can an OC who hasn't had his offense anywhere near the top ten during his first two seasons, be such a hot commodity in terms of a HC candidate?
Maybe name? He is working with an awful young roster too. Maybe they are taking that into consideration. They looked good on our win streak.

Maybe because they aren't looking at it through a Jaded fans eyes? I don't mean that to be rude, but maybe they are looking at how he worked with Andy, and feel like he could help Kolb or Hoyer become a better QB.

He is their DC...and a pretty fair defense at that. He would not be a "token" for the Cardinals.
