saphead
Sad but it had to be done. I can't wait until this new fella misses a kick so I can say Sandra Bullock > Randy Bullock in the game day thread.

|Montana Bengal|
Quote Bengals move from Nugent, claim Bullock Geoff Hobson Only Jim Breech and Shayne Graham scored more points than Mike Nugent as a Bengal after he was waived Tuesday with 718 points. After watching Mike Nugent compile an extra-point percentage that matched his field-goal percentage this season, the Bengals released their third-leading scorer of all-time on Tuesday and replaced him with veteran Randy Bullock. The Bengals hope Bullock kicks as well against the Steelers Sunday at Paul Brown Stadium (1 p.m.-Cincinnati’s Channel 12) as he did for the Steelers in his only game with Pittsburgh back on Dec. 4. Kicking for the injured Chris Boswell, Bullock hit all three of his field-goal tries from 44, 34, and 38 yards and made his only PAT in a 24-14 victory over the Giants. When Boswell returned last week, the Steelers waived Bullock and the Bengals claimed him after another struggling Sunday for Nugent. Although Nugent hit a big 44-yarder in Cleveland with 8:38 left in the game to make things comfortable at 23-10, he also missed his first field goal of less than 40 yards this season when his 36-yarder at the half-time gun sailed wide right. Wide right is where the last year of his seven seasons as a Bengal went for Nugent, a stunning reversal to career that included six winners in the last two minutes or overtime. But beginning in the 27-27 tie in London against Washington on Oct. 30, Nugent missed the first of five PATS in the next five games wide right, including two in the 16-12 loss to Buffalo that forced the Bengals to go for a touchdown at the end of the game. The PAT he missed last Sunday in Cleveland was because of a bad snap, but at the end of the day he was 23-for-29 on both PATs and field goals and in his last game at Paul Brown Stadium two weeks ago heard the catcalls and sarcastic cheers. Nugent also had some big moments in the city just a short drive from his hometown of Centerville, Ohio. It seems like eons ago, but his 47-yarder in this year’s opener with 54 seconds left gave them a 23-22 victory over the Jets team that took him in the second round of the 2005 draft out of Ohio State. His 132 points and 33 field goals in 2011 are Bengals season records, he shares the team mark for longest regular-season field goal of 55 and he made the second longest field goal in post-season history with a 57-yarder in Indianapolis during the 2014 Wild Card Game. Unfailingly polite with the media during his struggles, Nugent was also a popular figure in the locker room. “Mike is a tremendous teammate and has been an integral part of the Bengals for seven seasons,” said Bengals head coach Marvin Lewis in a news release. “This was a difficult decision, but one we felt was in the best interest of the football team moving forward. We have enjoyed getting to know Mike over the years and wish him the best.” Bullock was part of the try-out brigade the Bengals brought in after London, when they decided to stick with Nugent. He’s only kicked in two games this season after spending the 2016 preseason with the Giants. He kicked in the opener for New York, making two of three PATs. The 5-9, 206-pound Bullock, a fifth-round draft choice by Houston via Texas A&M, is a career 81.3 percent field-goal kicker and is 95.8 percent on PATs. His longest field goal is 55 yards. Bullock spent his rookie season on injured reserve but kicked for the Texans in every game in 2013 and 2014. In 2015 he was cut after three games and later signed with the Jets, for whom he had two game-winning kicks in the final eight games. One was a 31-yarder in OT for a 23-20 win at the Giants and another from 40 yards with 36 seconds left for a 19-16 win at Dallas. He became a free agent after that season and signed with the Giants in the 2016 preseason. http://www.bengals.com/news/article-1/Bengals-move-from-Nugent-claim-Bullock-/e89db5c5-0472-412c-bd3f-3c9d961528dc?campaign=cin:fanshare:twitter

JC
Has to suck getting released by your hometown and favorite team growing up. It was time to move on though. I think the guy needs to take the off-season and get his mind right. He can probably win a competition next year if he gets his shit together. Nugent doesn't need your sympathy I second this. No one died. A guy who has earned nearly $16 million for merely kicking a football is out of a job 3 weeks early. Get over yourselves. He'll live a very good life going forward.
