We have 2 backers that play the run well.

Neither is a coverage type.

ADG was to fill that role but he's been totally underwhelming.

The need for a coverage backer is a priority among other things.

Does the defense have anyone other than Reader that's played the run well this year?

I've always thought Wilson was better in coverage than against the run, but I don't either LB as played as well as they did last year. The run defense is on pace to allow more division rushing yards than any team in AFC North history.

The only returning defensive starters that have played as well or better than last year are Reader, Hendrickson, BJ Hill and Taylor Britt (before going on IRR). The others have taken a step back.

Big flashing "Personal Opinion" here. I think the D is built to stop the pass as it is assumed that most opponents will be playing from behind. But Joes injury and Zac's weird decision to completely abandon the run allowed teams to stay in the game/or take the lead and expose the D's weaknesses. Doubt there is a fix this year and will probably have to wait for the draft to do anything about it.

Feel free to flame.  🙂

Seeing that Bengals-Stealers is basically the only Saturday game (BUF-LAC is the other)…at 4:30 and nationally shown…what are the odds that the NFL will take the opportunity to “enhance” the narrative of “here are the proud comeback Pittsburgh Stealers..fighting with all they have to stay in the playoff race…”?

Of course, we already know how the league uses its “enhancements”

On that day I will be petty as hell.

We have been round and round on this subject for years. we have each spouted reasons ad nauseum.

On that day the Bengals win a SB, we all will be very happy. You can be as petty as you would like then (present day notwithstanding of course 😃). But I would fully expect the “enhancements” to go their way. For what purpose, who knows—but money will have its way.

This is will be very interesting to see which way this game goes  on Saturday. The inbreds are on the verge of a collapse with infighting & finger pointing, yet I could see them coming out and trying to bully their way to a win by using their typical 'tactics'. Either way, head on a motherfucking swivel men.

Ja’Marr Chase ruled out for Saturday’s game

CINCINNATI (WXIX) - An already banged-up Bengals team will now be without Ja’Marr Chase for Saturday’s game in Pittsburgh, head coach Zac Taylor announced Thursday.

The Bengals’ star playmaker suffered a sprained AC joint in the team’s Week 15 win against the Minnesota Vikings. He was unable to finish the game.

His status for this week’s game became uncertain following a report on Monday from NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport.

Rapoport said on Monday that Chase underwent an MRI. The results, according to the NFL insider, left Chase unlikely to play in the Bengals’ upcoming road game.

Coach Taylor was not so quick to rule out Chase earlier this week as he said Chase was day-to-day.

Chase is not the only Bengals star that won’t play this week.

Defensive tackle DJ Reader is out for the year after tearing a quad tendon in the game against the Vikings.

As for the Stealers, they will turn to Mason Rudolph at quarterback, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter. Quarterback Kenny Pickett was ruled for the game by head coach Mike Tomlin on Thursday.

Eleven years ago today, December 21, 2012, on Facebook:

"The Stripes can clinch a playoff spot, and kill the Stealers' season, with a win in Pittsburgh on Sunday. Go Bengals ... Who Dey!"

FB_IMG_1703186169528.jpg

(To the tune of "The Devil Went Down To Georgia):

Mike Tomlin welcomed the Bengals, he was looking for a game to steal

He was in a bind, he was way behind, he was willing to make a deal

When he came across a tall coach running a team who was playing hot

Tomlin jumped on a hickory stump and said, "boy, let me tell you what"

"I'll bet you didn't know it but I'm a football coach, too

And if you'd care to take a dare I'll make a bet with you.

Now you coach pretty good football, boy, but give The Tomlin his due

I'll bet a playoff berth of gold against your soul 'cause I think I'm better than you"

The coach said, "My name's Marvin, and it might be a sin

But I'll take your bet, you're gonna regret cause my team's the best it's ever been"

Marvin you ready up your team and play those Stealers hard

'Cause hell's broke loose in Pittsburgh and The Tomlin deals the cards

And if you win you'll get this shiny playoff spot of gold

But if you lose The Tomlin gets your soul!

(fiddle music bridge)

The Tomlin called the coin toss and he said, "I'll start this show"

And fire flew from his coaching whistle as he told his Stealers to go

As the Roethlisberger touched the ball it made an evil hiss

And a band of demons joined in and it sounded something like this:

(raucous evil music, with lyrics that translate loosely as...)

"we-play-for-the-tomlin-here-in-pittsburgh-pennsylvania-

where-the-men-who-all-lead-football-teams-want-to-rape-

young-boys-in-showers-or-have-forced-sex-with-young-coeds-

soul-and-only-root-for-popular-teams-they-see-on-basic-tv-

or-because-the-local-goodwill-was-out-of-yankee-jerseeeeeeeeys!"

When the Tomlin finished, Marvin said: "You're pretty good ol' son.

But sit down on that bench right there and let me show you how its done."

Hand the ball to Law Firm, run boy run!

The Tomlin's in the house with our Red Rifle gun!

Dunlap in the backfield, haulin' in sacks!

Another score for AJ, breakin' their backs!

(fiddle music bridge)

The Tomlin bowed his head because he knew that he'd been beat.

He laid that playoff berth on the ground at Marvin's feet.

Marvin said: "Tomlin just come on back if you ever want to try again.

cause I told you once, you son of a gun, my team's the best they've ever been!"

Hand the ball to Law Firm, run boy run!

The Tomlin's in the house with our Red Rifle gun!

Dunlap in the backfield, haulin' in sacks!

Another score for AJ, breakin' their backs!

Mason Rudolph will be the Stealers’ starting quarterback for Saturday’s game against the Bengals.

Stealers head coach Mike Tomlin confirmed today that Kenny Pickett has been ruled out with an ankle injury. Rudolph will start and Mitchell Trubisky will back him up.

This will be the third straight game Pickett has missed since suffering a high ankle sprain. The Stealers are 0-2 without Pickett and will have to hope that Rudolph can do what Trubisky has not and help them win with a backup quarterback.

The 7-7 Stealers and 8-6 Bengals are both in AFC playoff contention, but the Bengals have looked good with backup quarterback Jake Browning filling in for starter Joe Burrow. The Stealers haven’t won a game with Rudolph as their starting quarterback since 2019, but they need him to play well on Saturday.

Swung by Hard Rock Casino and put $20 on the Bengals.

I'm more worried about this game than I am Candyass City.

Wrong thread perhaps but surprised at the over the top whining

by Mahomes and Reid over the officiating.  Seriously?

Germaine Pratt robbed of a pick six by a blown ref call and

nothing really said on this end.

Just means it was our turn :ninja:

Somewhere between scripted and pushing a narrative lies the truth. A finger on the scale, a few points shaved here and there..  It's a racket

They're getting way too cozy with the dot-com bookies now though, I expect that's going to cause problems.

If you're expecting a safe, cleanly-called game tomorrow..  Wanna make a bet? :D

Bengals (8-6) at Stealers (7-7)

Saturday, 4:30 p.m. ET | NBC | Spread: CIN -3 (38.5)

Storyline to watch: The Stealers and Bengals have trended in opposite directions since the Stealers won the first meeting a month ago, with the Bengals going 3-0 since and the Stealers in an 0-3 spiral. Earlier this week, Pittsburgh wide receiver Diontae Johnson said the team that wins the line of scrimmage will win the game. Considering the Bengals have averaged 115.7 rushing yards per game since putting up only 25 against the Stealers, while the Stealers have averaged 95 per game since recording 153 vs. the Bengals, the ground game figures to dictate the outcome of this rematch. -- Brooke Pryor

Bold prediction: Bengals WR Tee Higgins will have at least 150 receiving yards. Cincinnati is without WR Ja'Marr Chase, and the Stealers are down safeties Minkah Fitzpatrick (knee injury) and Damontae Kazee (suspension). That is a recipe for Higgins to have a big day and build upon his performance against the Vikings that featured one of the top catches of the season. -- Ben Baby

Stat to know: Stealers QBs have nearly as many interceptions (nine) as passing touchdowns (10). Pittsburgh ranks 26th in completion percentage (62%) and Total QBR (37).

Matchup X factor: Bengals edge rusher Trey Hendrickson. He'll be facing slightly below-average tackle Dan Moore Jr. and can wreck Stealers quarterback Mason Rudolph's day in a hurry. Hendrickson has a 22% pass rush win rate at edge, which ranks 12th at the position. -- Walder

What's at stake: The Stealers basically need to win to keep playoff hopes alive. They'd have a 9% chance to make the AFC field with a win, but those odds drop below 1% if they lose their fourth straight. The Bengals, meanwhile, can make a playoff statement on Saturday -- a win bumps them up to 56%, while a loss knocks them all the way down to 13%. Read more.

Injuries: Bengals | Stealers

What to know for fantasy: The Bengals cannot cover tight ends. This season, Cincinnati's defense has given up the second-most fantasy points to the position. The Stealers' Pat Freiermuth has averaged 8.4 targets, 6.0 receptions and 67.2 receiving yards versus the Bengals in his career. See Week 16 rankings. -- Moody

Betting nugget: The Stealers are 0-3 against the spread (ATS) in their past three games. They are also 0-3 ATS in their past three games as an underdog. Read more.

Moody's pick: Bengals 21, Stealers 17

Walder's pick: Bengals 20, Stealers 17

FPI prediction: CIN, 58.3% (by an average of 2.8 points)
