RB Offseason 2024

This should be fun.....RB. 

-Return Mixon but he can be released saving 6.1M. He has a roster bonus in early March. He just ran for 1000 yards and caught 52 balls and is a team captain. Essentially the question is can you get what he gives you for less than 6.1M and let's say you can get it for 4M...is saving 2.1 worth it?

-Brown showed flashes with an incredible 84.6 elusive rating.

-Williams is a free agent

-Evans barely played. He is going into his final contract year and is a special teamer.

My thoughts

-Moss seems interesting. He will likely leave Indy for a place where he will be assured of more snaps. He is still young and could be cheap. Seems like a personality fit too. 

-Dillon is interesting but a different kind of back. Another guy escaping a shadow. 

-Kicking ourselves for not signing Singeltary last offseason. He is great but likely back in Houston

-Antonio Gibson fits the mold as a pass catcher with a great elusive rating and someone looking for snaps, but he has a fumbling issue

-Ty Johnson is the type of guy you sign with no expectations of making the roster but that elusive rating has been high the last two seasons despite limited usage

-Edwards-Hilaire played with Burrow in LSU and is an obvious match although he hasn't done much yet in his career. 

-Lots of guys franchised last year will be available, (Jacobs, Barkley, Pollard) along with Henry and Ekeler.

-Swift is very interesting as well but might cost the most

-The Broncos have their starter and Rookie McLaughlin showed well as the backup change of pace..curious if they release Perine and save 3M with his release....they are in rough cap shape with the 5th worst current cap situaiton.

You didn't mention J.K. Dobbins..

His ability intrigued me the most

I assume it's just impossible to count on him. I do agree he is talented.

I'd rather go the rookie route in replacing Mixon. The team can probably re-sign Williams cheaply. He fills the Perine role of QB protector. We could probably find a good RB in round 3 or later. Audric Estime or Braelon Allen would be good additions. Bucky Irving will be a day 3 pick but has skills.

My thoughts

-Moss seems interesting. He will likely leave Indy for a place where he will be assured of more snaps. He is still young and could be cheap. Seems like a personality fit too. 

-Dillon is interesting but a different kind of back. Another guy escaping a shadow. 

-Kicking ourselves for not signing Singeltary last offseason. He is great but likely back in Houston

-Antonio Gibson fits the mold as a pass catcher with a great elusive rating and someone looking for snaps, but he has a fumbling issue

-Ty Johnson is the type of guy you sign with no expectations of making the roster but that elusive rating has been high the last two seasons despite limited usage

-Edwards-Hilaire played with Burrow in LSU and is an obvious match although he hasn't done much yet in his career. 

-Lots of guys franchised last year will be available, (Jacobs, Barkley, Pollard) along with Henry and Ekeler.

-Swift is very interesting as well but might cost the most

-The Broncos have their starter and Rookie McLaughlin showed well as the backup change of pace..curious if they release Perine and save 3M with his release....they are in rough cap shape with the 5th worst current cap situaiton.

I am stuck on keeping Mixon although I understand every argument against it.

JK Dobbins is hella talented, but he’s a big injury risk, there’s no doubt. 
 

Love what Mixon brought, and I could see him back… but if they move on from him, I wouldn’t be shocked either. He’s developed as a pass catcher and he’s improved as a pass protector… but he doesn’t break a lot of tackles and he’s never been a really instinctive runner. 
And for whatever reason, Evans hasn’t caught on. I expect they’ll move on from Tray’veon Williams also, who to his credit did some good things as a Bengal… mostly as a STer. 
 

Guys I like as potential replacements would be Zack Moss or Devin Singletary. Neither are feature backs on their respective teams but both have shown they can carry a heavy load and be successful when called upon. Both run hard and are good at getting yards after contact (as is Dobbins).

 

Also like Clyde Edwards-Helaire, more as a pass catcher and 3rd down type, and also like Rico Dowdle as an under the radar guy. He’s a hard runner with some wiggle and he’s an upcoming FA in Dallas that they may look to re-sign.

Was thinking that it might make sense as a 3headed monster of Perine (should he be released)-Brown-Rookie.  I think Perine would be cheaper and more willing to take a supporting role.

I think Singletary took over the job in Houston. Pierce fell off.

Did they add a year to Mixon’s contract or just restructure the final two years? If they only restructured - I’d say the writing is on the wall. Guy has one career carry over 50 yards over 1,500 carries. You can talk chicken and egg all day but he just doesn’t have the juice to outrun guys. Never seemed like he did.

 

You want to bust these cloud coverages - break off a couple 50-75 yard runs for touchdowns before the first half of the season is over next year and watch that change.

I've always believed that CEH would be a pro bowl RB if reunited with Joe and Ja'Marr. 

 

Burrow famously said he thought CEH was the most athletic guy on their LSU squad that included Justin Jefferson as well. 

 

He will be cheap. Seems like a no brainer.

If you made me GM, I would bring in both CEH and AJ Dillon for a thunder and lightning combo, then cut Mixon and have Chase Brown as the x factor back.

March 16.  That's the date Joe is due his roster bonus.

 

Let's see what happens.

 

TBH there is a small part of me that hope he goes somewhere else behind a good Oline and we get someone else at RB behind our bad at run blocking Oline and well see which chicken and which egg is right.

 

But that's not gonna happen, Joe is going to be here. 

Especially when you consider how much Zack Taylor has gone out of his way to praise him.

He could be the worst RB in history and drunkenly crash his car through the front door of a Skyline & unless he kills someone he is still going to play out his final year here.

 

The people at the top just don't care that much, they're more interested in Good Boy Points and everyone thinking they are nice while they stack more money and think of more excuses to stay $50+ million under the cap every season. Being good at your job or not being a public menace are entirely optional. Just smile a lot and you can retire here, no problem.
