had to share this little gem.

I just threw up a little bit!!!!!!!!!

I was excited when I first read that we traded him. I said to myself " Self, We probably got a extra 2nd round pick this year. smart move"
Then I found out it was for a 5th round pick. Thats when the vomit started. I am having chest pains also.

Just found this out from SteelerNation.....they don't even have Limas Sweed anymore....they traded him to the Falcons back in March...Looks like the only WR's they have are Hines, Randall El, and that Wallace kid....That just possibly screams that they may be looking at a reciever in the next couple of weeks, unless T.O decides to go to Pittsburgh.....ugh.

Not sure where you heard that, but I can assure you that Sweed is most definitely still a Steeler. Whether that's true after training camp or not remains to be seen. But for now, he's still with Pittsburgh.

Mike Wallace proved himself as a rookie last year and should be a serviceable starter. Randle El will be the #3, with Arnaz Battle and Sweed battling for #4. With Holmes, Sweed was probably battling for a roster spot. This probably gives him another year to try and prove his value. But if the Steelers do draft a WR, then Sweed could, in fact, lose his roster spot this season.

Sorry, I didn't read the entire thread, that's on me, my bad.....I just saw a link to a thread that said that Limas Sweed got traded to ATL from that same page that is carrying the Santonio trade thread.

False Alarm, please move on, nothing more to see here.
Profootballtalk.com passes along "flying" rumors that unsigned restricted free agent Leon Washington is part of the trade that sent Santonio Holmes to the Jets on Sunday night.

Profootballtalk's Mike Florio has been unable to debunk the rumors yet, but points out that Washington would have to sign his one-year tender to be involved in any trade. If Washington is included, the deal would be much more sensible from the Steelers' standpoint. Washington, if able to recover from his compound leg fracture, would be a big upgrade on third downs and returns from incumbent Steelers No. 2 back Mewelde Moore.
5th round pick? Wonder if the Jets threw in some kicking tees and a game worn Favre jersey?

Well, you can guarantee the Jets at Steelers will be a Monday Night game now.

I just checked and the Jets dont have a fifth rnd pick this year. They gave it to the Browns for Braylon Edwards.

I think it was the 24th pick in the 5th round. Looks like the Jets gave the Browns the 29th pick in the 5th round.

There's some completely unsubstantiated rumors flying around that Leon Washington is also part of the deal.

Yeah I read that too. But like many have already said, Leon can't be traded until he signs his tender.

It's a big deal that effects one of our division rivals and probably even the draft.

Thus it also effects the Bengals.

It's a 12-game trial for New York. It's a great deal for the Jets, obviously, but it comes with a giant asterisk. Profootballtalk.com reports Holmes is due to start the season on a four-game NFL suspension for violation of the league's substance-abuse policy. He's also been accused of assaulting a woman in Florida for allegedly throwing a glass of juice in her face and cutting her. Since this is the last year of Holmes' rookie contract, the Steelers are trading three-quarters of Holmes' 2010 season for a fifth-round pick, which makes a little more sense.

Leon Washington not part of Holmes trade
Apr124/12/2010 7:49:20 AM

Peter King of SI.com reports via Twitter that Jets RB Leon Washington was not part of the Santonio Holmes trade. Washington cannot be traded until he signs his RFA tender and as far as we know that has not happened.

The Jets have sent a fifth-round pick to the Steelers in return for Holmes.

Steelers now going WR in Round 1?
7:54AM ET

Last week, we pondered the meaning of the visits of Dez Bryant and Golden Tate to the Pittsburgh Steelers. Sure they had the 18th pick, but they also had another season of Santonio Holmes, right?

Things changed on Sunday night, as Holmes was traded to the New York Jets for a fifth-round pick (!!!), as first reported by ESPN 1050 radio in New York. While ESPN's AFC North blogger James Walker writes in the wake of the shocking trade that it's now Mike Wallace time in Pittsburgh, we don't think they'll necessarily overlook Bryant if he happens to be available at No. 18.

Then again, maybe this jettisoning of a talented yet troubled WR will mean the team really is going back to the smashmouth, running-focused style that their fans love so much. In that case, they might consider one of the elite interior linemen (Florida's Maurkice Pouncey or Idaho's Mike Iupati) with their first pick.

James Walker
Wallace a fantasy sleeper pick?
"Wallace took advantage of every opportunity last season as a rookie, recording 39 receptions for 756 yards and six touchdowns. He added deep speed and reliable hands to Pittsburgh's offense as the No. 3 receiver, and Wallace could be an early fantasy sleeper for 2010 now that he's projected in the starting lineup."

Holmes against the Bengals:(7 games) 31 catches, 520 yards, 16.8 avg per catch, 1 TD.

The 1 TD catch was in 2006. The infamous game where Shayne missed a FG to win it.
And Holmes took a slant pass 67 yards for a TD in OT.

I think in time, Wallace in the starting lineup will eclipse Holmes' production, and he's faster anyway. That said, the Steelers don't have a lot of depth at WR, with Wines getting older, Randle-El nothing more than average, and Sweed, who hasn't done anything. Pitt may well go WR in round 1 (Bryant or Tate, for example), and that actually might help the Bengals' cause if they're going after Graham or Kindle, both of whom the Steelers reportedly like, especially Graham, from what I've heard/read.

I just read that the Stealers were going to release him and a 5th rounder
was the best they could get.

Still, it might have been better PR to just release him.
actually, I just saw a tweet from King that said they could have gotten a 4th but rushed a deal. Sounds like they took the Jets first offer.

Report of four-game Holmes suspension is confirmed
Posted by Mike Florio on April 12, 2010 10:16 AM ET

On Saturday morning, I took a break from my normal routine of writing up a string of three-to-five-paragraphs blurbs and hitting "enter" to devote two-plus hours to working the phones regarding some information I'd obtained on Friday.

For the first time in league history, a Super Bowl MVP is facing a suspension.

Ultimately, we got to the point where we were 100 percent comfortable reporting that former Steelers receiver Santonio Holmes had been suspended by the league, and that the matter was pending within the NFL's internal appeals process.

Though the various Pittsburgh television stations and other blogs picked it up, it was largely ignored until Holmes was traded to the Jets for that well-traveled cold turkey sandwich with wilted lettuce.

Now, Adam Schefter of ESPN has confirmed the report, and he has expressly given us credit for breaking the news, prompting the rest of the ESPN machine (as far as we can tell) to do the same.

Bottom line? If the appeal fails, Holmes is one bad Friday night away from a one-year suspension. By handing him to the Jets for a fifth-round pick, the Steelers apparently are betting that Holmes won't be able to avoid a full season on the sidelines.

So now we can celebrate. Time to "wake n bake." Some cinnamon rolls.
