I'm so sick of all the bitching in this f'ing forum. I've been a bengal fan for life and stopped coming to this board for 2 years cuz of the constant whining. I finally came back to see how everyone was and to get updates on all the moves and its just non stop whining and complaing. Don't get me wrong Mike Brown is a cheap bastard but let's stay positive here. I think we have something good going on. When we do start winning it will feel even better knowing how long we had to wait. Who Dey Mutha fuckas!

The question is, was anything ever happening? If it was, WTF happened?

Sapp...

Rogers...

Whitner...

The misery of FA continues... On the bright side, Artrell's bro was brought in. Hear he looked very good going 1 on 1 with his brother.
First off, Whitner hasn't signed anywhere. I suspect the issue, especially based on what I've read from what happened in Buffalo, is that he and his agent have an over-inflated sense of his value. So far, no one is buying it. Maybe some team will give, or maybe he will.

If he signs here, great... I don't see him as an instant starter, like some do. So if he doesn't, I don't see that it's a great loss. He really hasn't produced all that much in 5 years. LB is an area of greater need, with Muck gone, and Rivers out for awhile. That's the greater sense of urgency, IMO-plus, I think the cupboard is more bare there as far as FAs go.

If Whitner signs somewhere else, there are other safeties I like as much... or more.

I think this is right. I think its possible the Bengals wanted Donte and went after him and then when they felt like the demands were unrealistic they moved on. The question is whether Whitner comes back with more reasonable demands or not. I've said earlier here, I don't think there is much of a demand for safeties with his skill set. If he gets desperate, he'll come back.

I tend to think this is how the Benson negotiations probably went down as well. He seemed to also have an over inflated sense of his value despite there being no market for him.

Maybe, like Benson, it ends up in an incentive-laden 1 year "prove it" type contract.

There has been a lot to complain about since free agency started. It's obvious that most other clubs were better prepared than we were, that our front office underperformed again, and that the Bengals need a REAL GM to compete.

People wouldn't be complaining if they didn't care. I think everyone on this board desperately wants to see the Bengals field a winning (or at least competitive) team every year like the fucking stealers do. And when it appears that the owner doesn't share this passion to win, people get frustrated and complain.

I don't have a lot of hope for a winning team this year, but you can bet I'll be cheering them on every game. I'll always support the Bengals (unless they move the franchise to another city)--win or lose. And who knows, maybe we'll surprise some people and win a few games this year.

But to make matters worse, now YOU'RE complaining about the complaining. So knock that shit off.

Cleveland can give us the numbers of the last several GMs they have had if we want them.

A GM isn't a magic potion that will make us have the money of the Patsies and will make what big FAs we do sign not be big letdowns.

But our GM is a proven FAILURE. If MB was a GM for ANY other team, he would have been fired a long long time ago.

We need a GM who is held ACCOUNTABLE for results. MB is not. He's either too stupid or too stubborn to admit he's done a shitty job as GM--the records of the past 20 years prove it. You can't always blame it on "injuries," "bad luck," "one player away," "need a new stadium to compete," etc.

His excuses are endless and he needs to fire himself. All I'm asking is that we bring in a decent GM (maybe even move Marvin into that role) to try to finally turn this franchise a winner.

Yeah I know what some of you will say...so don't bother replying with:

It's Mike Brown's team and he can run it how he sees fit...

Go find another team to root for...

Insert BEATING THE DEAD HORSE Emoticon here

Come back when he dies...

What are you talking about? You don't even know what's going on. You hear some unconfirmed rumor that the Bengals are on the verge, possibly, of signing a player, and if it hasn't happened you start whining. I can't believe you!

Admittedly, if you are from Arkansas, some allowances must be made. But dropping another anti-Mike Brown screed for no apparent reason is just too tedious. Blah, blah, and blah. Heard it all before.

I don't get it. Whitner would be nice to have, but not getting him isn't going to hurt us Rogers or Sapp like.

Those two could have turned our defense around during a time when we had an awful line. Whitner isn't exactly a playmaker that we could use for our safety position.

P.S. It is better than his previous disco costume.

Agreed. Serious question for those of you who are REALLY upset about this... Are you Buckeyes fans? I get the feeling that Whitner has been overrated here due to the familiarity of a lot of the board to his college career. I'm seriously just curious.

And fwiw, I do think he'd be a nice upgrade and addition, but the overreaction to this one is astounding.
