Carson Palmer: No room for Chad Johnson on Raiders

Oakland Raiders quarterback Carson Palmer played alongside Chad Johnson for seven seasons with the Cincinnati Bengals, forming one of the better QB-WR combos in franchise history.

Johnson's rather epic free fall from grace has him looking for work, but it's unlikely teams will come calling any time soon -- especially the Raiders.

Oakland's young group of receivers is banged up after two preseason games. Jacoby Ford is in a protective boot after injuring his foot. Denarius Moore's hamstring remains a nuisance, and Darrius Heyward-Bey is back at practice after spraining his shoulder in last Friday's loss to the Cardinals.
Despite the rash of injuries, Palmer sees no reason to upset the apple cart by signing Johnson -- but it's nothing personal.

"I had a great time playing with Chad. I had no issues with him at all. He'd be a great add for any team but we've got young guys that are just coming along," Palmer told Comcast SportsNet California, via its Bay Area affiliate. "I mean Denarius will be back any day. Jacoby's deal is not that bad. So we're not going to give up on any of those guys. They're too good of players and young."

Palmer's excitement over the Raiders' collection of pass-catchers is mostly justified. Along with Moore and Ford, Heyward-Bey comes off his best season, while Rod Streater has turned heads in recent weeks. Chad Johnson to the Raiders might have made sense in some bygone season under Al Davis, but coach Dennis Allen and friends have nothing to gain by adding the 34-year-old sideshow in 2012.

Palmer stressed that he "got along great" with Johnson back in the day and offered encouragement for his friend: "Chad's going to bounce back. He's been through a lot, not just in his NFL career, but throughout his entire life. I know Chad will bounce back."

read this morning that the Oakland starting offense is the only starting unit not to score yet in the preseason.
That's awesome. However, their best player is being limited on his touches. I could see McFadden leading the league in rushing this year. After CP throws 3 INTs in the opener, McFadden is going to get 30 carries a game.

Yeah, I saw their first game vs. Dallas. Carson threw a bad INT, but either Jacoby Ford or Denarius Moore - forget who - dropped 2 or 3 VERY catchable passes and they were moving the ball well.

I also think (assuming he's healthy, which has been an issue for him) that D-Mac is primed for a huge year. He's a serious weapon.

I am sure, behind closed doors the conversation went something like this:

Reggie McKenzie( Oak GM): "Hey Carson, do you think we should bring Chad....

Carson: "FUUUUUUUUUUUKKKKKK NOOOOOOO!!!!!

Reggie McKenzie: Ok then.

Hey Arkansas-totally not related....just wondering how much you know about Iron Eyes Cody?

I remember his commercial from the 60's/70's when someone threw trash on his moccasins and he started crying...that's about it.

It was Jacoby Ford... had 3 balls hit him in the freaking hands and he let em go...

Horrible. I seriously thought they might cut his ass the next day. A starting NFL WR can't drop 3 that easy.

you sure do seem pretty bitter about palmer.

if you just didnt like him and thought he actually sucked and you were super sold on andy dalton you probably wouldnt be making so much effort to shit on him in every thread imaginable.

instead youre acting like he fucked your g/f and posted the video on your facebook.

Damn lol

But back to the subject at hand, you called that a long time ago Ryan about Carson wanting chad out of here. I didn't realize how stupid chad is when it comes to the playbook.

I root for all kinds of people to fail in sports, none of whom fucked my girlfriend. The fact you seem so bothered by it tells me that you are the one who is hung up on shit.

I only comment on Carson when the thread is about Carson or when someone in the thread posts something about Carson. I'd say there's a decent chance Carson leads the league in INTs this year. If you don't like it, I could care less. I'm sure Carson appreciates you coming to his rescue though.

And you've been barely able to post a rational thought for a while now.

Don't be sensitive. Look, I think baseball is for teh ghey's but you don't see me in there shitting it up on every baseball thread. You know why? Cause my butt isn't sore like yours is when the subject is Carson. You and a handful of others just can't leave well enough alone. You must come defend shitty MB no matter what. Any other GM performs like MB and he would have been fired 50x over.

Oh and I could care less about Carson also, but I chose not too. In fact I couldn't care more. He is a hero, probalby more important than Neal Armstrong (but maybe not as important as Neal Peart).

I don't defend or crucify MB and I never have. I don't care enough. All I want is my favorite ball team to win. If they lose, I'll be fine and it's not going to change my life at all. MB??? I've never had an opinion of Mike Brown. I like following the game. Cincinnati just happened to be the team I took a liking to as a kid.

And why wouldn't I want Carson to tumble? He left MY FAVORITE TEAM. He is now the enemy. I feel the same for almost every former Bengal. Fanene, Rucker... they didn't mean shit after the offseason began. Spikes, Simmons, Anderson, Jones, Johnson - the same with them. I'd have no clue what Carson would even be up to if it weren't for this board. I don't check on his games. I hope he throws 30 INTs this year and the Raiders finish 0-16 so we get the 33rd pick in the draft. After that, Carson can throw himself out of the league for all I care because he is what Brady is, Roethlisbeger is, Flacco is, Rivers is, and any other QB that doesn't play for the Bengals: the enemy. Am I supposed to root for a guy who showed he'd rather retire than play for the team I've followed my entire life? If you and a few others wants to root the the individual, I'm down with that, but I am going to continue to back my team and hate on the entire NFL outside of the guys playing in orange and black.

If a dude left your job to go to the competitor, would you hate him? Or would you just remember all the awesome times yall had?

I like former Bengals becuase they provided some happiness. Carson was a beacon of light. I like all those other dudes you mentioned too. Spikes is my favorite Bengals defender ever. Willie was awesome.

I do dislike some former Bengals like Livings cause he was shitty and only caused grief. So fuck him, we can agree on that.
