Le Tigre
Doesn't surprise me at all. 5 straight playoff seasons plus 7-8 win non years=wins. And before someone drones on about the playoff win stuff...the context of the piece is about overall record. Some guy named Lewis, who is reviled, comes to mind... I_C_Deadpeople
He was only reviled at the game. He was stale and everyone could see that he and the team had no energy or passion. Maybe if he had a better front office he would be seen in a different light but alas all Bengal coaches under Mikey end up in the same pit. Duluoz
Surprised me just because it's so easy to get lost in the endless drumbeat of "Mike Brown sucks !" it becomes its own reality regardless of how true it is or isn't...turns out it's not true at all, as 20 of 32 franchises did worse than the Mike Brown owned and managed Cincinnati Bengals over the past 10 years. Mike Brown does not suck.

|SF2|
At the end of the day, nobody remembers your regular season record. You legacy is defined by how you perform on the biggest of stages. We we had some excellent teams this decade that underperformed when they took center stage. Teams that should have earned byes but always found a way to lose that extra game or two. They will be forgotten, in fact they already have. Le Tigre
Very few people remember any team on whatever stage over a 10-year span. Many can't recall who played in the SB in February.

UncleEarl
Five straight playoff years, five straight losses and most were embarrassing. Lewis put together a solid squad, but his own coaching weaknesses kept them from moving forward. I don't hate Lewis, but if you goal is to actually win the Super Bowl you had to get rid of the guy. They waited far too long. I'd be all for Marvin Lewis being added to the front office for talent evaluation. He could even replace Tobin, IMO. Well, it doesn't matter when you cherry pick data. If you simply compare Marvin's ENTIRE tenure to the rest of the league, his teams were 16th out of 32 in regular season wins, which is right in the middle. Of course Marvin went 0-7 in the playoffs. A better question is this, would you rather be 16th out of 32 for the regular season or would you rather be: 17th: Chicago Bears: 2 NFC title games, 1 NFC Title, Super Bowl loss 18th: New York Giants 2 NFC titles, 2 Super Bowls wins 20th: Arizona Cardinals 1 NFC Title game and win, Super Bowl loss 25th: SF 49ers: 3 NFC title games, 1 NFC title, 1 Super Bowl loss 27th: St Louis/La Rams: 1 NFC title, 1 Super Bowl loss 28th: Jacksonville Jags: 1 AFC title game, loss

It means we actually won at least one fucking playoff game.

We could do this all day. Ultimately, the teams outside the 8 teams that won a super bowl in the last 10 years really can't brag about shit. |westside bengal|
I think the arrival of Mike Zimmer and his molding the Bengal's defense into his image was a major factor in those seasonal wins for those playoff years. Even though he left after 2013 I think his "presence" carried over a couple more years.

Losing 5 straight playoff games in the manner we did is worse. Particularly the last one against Pittsburgh.
Bleeds Orange
That 2015 playoff loss is the absolute lowest point in the history of the franchise, and that's saying a lot. As for the rankings, it's funny seeing the Browns at #32, but they'll get the last laugh in February, when they win the Super Bowl. They are still winning the Super Bowl this year, right? |SF2|
I think the Browns already won the Super Bowl last year.

Le Tigre
Right...like the guys I know who put those barbed wire tats around their biceps in the '80's. I told them then that they may look good now, but give it 30 years and they will be droopy--looking eyesores. They do.
|SF2|
My daughter was freshman at UK when they were undefeated heading into the final 4. She was at spring break and a bunch of students were getting small 40-0 tats on their wrists. I told her she better make hers a 38-1 since they were going to lose to Wisconsin. Thankfully she did neither.
