MichaelWeston
There are lots of ways for the RB room to go. I am curious what you think or who your favorite guys are. Below is the breakdown of free agents. I separated them into a few categories that are certainly debatable. (If there are suggestions let me know) Some thoughts 1. I bet Perine or Mixon are back but not both. Mixon release saves 7 million 2. The top group might be beyond what we are willing to pay 3. Group 4 is a bunch of guys who have a trait or two that is interesting but I am not sure how they would fit. 4. More good teams are going with a veteran RB on the Practice squad. I would be all for that. BBR
1 hour ago, MichaelWeston said: Mixon release saves 7 million Wouldn't a post June 1st designation of the cut save more than that? From what I've read, going that route would push half of the $5,500,000 dead cap hit into next year's cap as well. So that would be $7,291,176 + $2,750,000 for a total post June 1st savings of: $10,041,176. Unless they draft a RB to replace him in the 1st or 2nd rounds, I don't think they will cut Mixon. They will more than likely just let him play out his contract and then replace him via a high draft pick. In the mean time, they'll probably draft a RB in rounds 3 to 7 but only expect him to be used as depth / a replacement. I have no idea what they will do with regards to Perine and Williams, but it is mildly concerning that they might go into the draft with just Mixon and Evans for RBs because it might force their hand a bit in the draft. You are right. June 1st would save 10 million. I think it's possible he is here this year but with just a couple million in dead money next year it's unlikely he plays through his final year. Higher priorities than. havng Mixon as our running back .. If he goes for cap space Im ok with that as well. Only RB in the draft Id like to replace him with is Bijan Robinson . Doubt the Bengals would use their 1st on him though.... If they did draft him I'd be good with it..😎
sparky151
Bengals should release Mixon as soon as they need his cap space. Perine will likely be back, on a modest raise. So we'd need a starting RB and perhaps someone to challenge Williams We won't go for a top tier free agent like Jacobs or Barkley. We shouldn't even pay someone 7 mil like Mixon is scheduled to make. I'd look in the draft for the replacement. Robinson probably won't make it to pick 28 but should be considered if he is available. I think we could get Tyjae Spears in round 3, Chase Brown in round 4, and Kendre Miller in round 5. Any of those guys would be all right, provided they can do blitz pickups. T-Dub
I didn't see anything out of Mixon that couldn't be replaced by a mid-rounds draft pick. If they get someone in that can block worth a damn it'd even be an improvement. No reason at all to pay him the $10m & it won't take a high draft pick to replace his production. In fact a cheap free agent that, again, knows how to block would be more than fine. IDK if there's a position on the team I'm less concerned with than RB. They go as the OL goes. There is a pretty big mindset that you never take a RB in round 1. I used to agree with that. But I think now the reality is you just never pay a RB a second contract. So a Round 1 RB is actually a big benefit because you can get him for 6 years. 4 regular, 1 1st round option 1 franchise tag....then let him walk. Bijan is certainly on my list in round

I think they know they need more big play ability at that position and I absolutely believe Mixon gets cut at some point with eyes of taking his replacement early on in the draft. Pete Johnson, Charles Alexander, Eric Ball, Harold Green, Cory Dillon, Kenny Irons, Cris Perry, Jeramy Hill, Gio Bernard, Joe Mixon….they all have my back. End of first, early to mid second…that seems to be their sweet spot for RB’s when they decide to target one. Seems like the right time.

All of these dime-a-dozen RB’s like Joe are quickly expendable. Then, quite a few turn up as opposing runners they have to defense against…and who often run over them. An opposing Mixon, clearing contain against the daunting expanse held by Dax Hill and the erstwhile safety-yet-to-be drafted, is a sight to consider. T-Dub
They just need to protect JB & avoid a major setback on defense. Could very well have had back to back SB wins if our OL wasn't trash. Any other concern is, to me at least, secondary.
happyrid
The Bengals have made a ton of strides organizationally in recent years but there are still some "old Bengals" things that I won't believe have changed until I see them with my own eyes. One big one is refusing to cut/restructure vets that they like but who are obviously overpaid (Leon Hall was egregious back in the day). They should cut Mixon but I don't know if they actually will. I think they'd be just fine with Perine and a 2nd or 3rd round rookie. It's a deep class. I really like Kenny McIntosh and Tyjae Spears as guys who would instantly juice up the passing game. MichaelWeston
I think I would 1. Cut Mixon 2. Re-sign Perine 3. Re-sign Williams 4. Draft a RB in Rd 2-4 5. Sign Max Borghi-I loved that guy last year. He is in the XFL now. I think he would be as good as any UDFA we could get. 6. Sign a veteran from this group James Robinson Jamychal Hasty D'Ernest Johnson Matt Breida RB-Perine-Robinson-Draft Pick-Williams-Evans-Borghi Robinson won't have a place in New York. My only issue is how far back are we moving from what Mixon offered.

Last years salaries Breida $1,187,500 Johnson $1,216,500 I think this RB market will be really flooded
|westside bengal|
To be honest I am not impressed with the Bengals RB room at all. Mixon is overpaid and needs to go and Perine is 28 who I might give a 1 year $3 million deal for continuity but nothing longer. Show the others the door and draft one and load up on UDFA's and see who sticks. Pick up somebody off the waiver wire or another team's practice team. I really do not think the Bengals would be worse off and a real chance of being better.
Sox
The Bengals are the 7th highest in the league in salary paid to the RB room but only two teams had fewer rushing yards. I think the Bengals draft a RB and Mixon is cut June 1st.

A Rock
First priority has got to be o line. I'd cringe when they'd go into a no back set only needing a few yards for a 1st down, wondering who was going to blow the assignment resulting in a sack and killing a critical drive. They trusted Burrow more than the backs (and rightly so), but couldn't understand not giving him better misdirection and screen options. I think that was the difference for the Chiefs. Jerick McKinnon was huge for them all down the stretch. Which brings me to a question. Why didn't we use Chris Evans more? On four targets last year, he caught three for 38 yards and a touchdown. Of his 17 targets his first year, he caught 15 of them for 151 yards and 2 touchdowns. I obviously looked that up, I have no problem admitting I'm no expert. I only know what I see on game days. I think he got hurt against the Panthers, but I have no idea to what extent because I never hear ANYTHING about this guy.
spicoli
Evans got himself into the doghouse somehow and once that happened we never saw him again. I’d bet big we’ll never see him again in a Bengals uniform.
