|BlackJesus|
Video analysis of how well Dawand Jones did yesterday ... (good thing the Bengals passed on him in the draft 3 times) 😐
|BlackJesus|
^ For the record I had the Bengals taking Dawand Jones with their first rd pick in the guess contest, and after yesterday it looks like he would have been well worth it. The fact that Dawand Jones lasted until the 4th round is inexcusable for the entire NFL, but especially the Bengals who needed an RT.

|BlackJesus|
- OBj was the team's best overall OL (2nd best at run and pass blocking) - Karras was the best run blocker - Cappa was the best pass blocker - Cappa was the worst run blocker - Volson was the worst pass blocker - Volson was the worst overall OL - The only 2 OL with a decent overall score were OBj and Karras. Le Tigre
The more I think about it...the less the "lack of pre-season game snaps" makes much sense. Primarily in pre-season--while the group might see an opposing team's first unit also--the defensive schemes/formations are specific to THOSE teams. Since they didn't play the Cleveland Football Team in the preseason, they would not have had opportunity to gameplan. Where the continuity factor may have come into play, was if they were not game-planning for CFT in the last week of TC and prep week. Then again, it's difficult to gameplan for a team's defenses based on the prior year's film, or even the current preseason. The old and overused saying "defenses are ahead of offenses this time of year", is yet apropos. They will have at least a week's worth of film for the Rats this week. Dawand Jones in his first game in the NFL is already a better player than Jonah Williams. And paying Jonah 12.6 mil this year may cost us Higgins or Reader on extensions. Le Tigre
They were going to pay him $12.6 anyway. And, as BJ said, the Bengals could have had Jones with 3 bites from the apple—but didn’t

The Bengals passing scheme demands a Kamara / Gibbs type RB for it to work and they have yet to use one. Going in shotgun and having Mixon stand next to Burrow as a predictable blocker allows the DL to ignore the run entirely and pin their ears back. The Bengals should be calling KC and offering a 3rd rd pick for CEH, though KC likely wouldn't do it as they wouldn't want to reunite him and Burrow. At least have a workhorse type RB for short yardage and passing plays who is maybe 5-11 240lbs, is a great pass blocker and averages 4.1 yds a carry. Don’t know where we could find one of those. Williams is an enormous bust as a first round pick. He blows. They can't afford to build a championship OL with nothing but proven free agents, if that's even possible. There are a lot more Cody Fords on the market than Ted Karrases.es.es. The obvious solution is to find someone that can evaluate OL talent and/or coach them up. The future of the franchise depends on it.

And, as BJ said, the Bengals could have had Jones with 3 bites from the apple—but didn’t Williams had a guaranteed contract due to the Bengals exercising his 5th year option. So he wouldn't be cut but could be traded. Indeed, he even asked to be. Unfortunately for the Bengals, Tobin's ego prevented him from admitting another draft bust and we kept Jonah. It was reported at the time that there would be a market for him. If we'd traded him, we could have gained a pick to use on Jones. So we paid 12.6 mil to field a poorer player. Not good Bob.
