Higgins has zero power to force a trade.  His rights belong exclusively to the Bengals on the tag the player’s union agreed to.  He sits out he doesn’t get paid AND is fined per the Union agreed upon rules.

Oh i hear ya and understand but, if he wants to leave, then trade him.  He is not worth that amount.

FYI, not gonna happen

The issue might be that A.  Carolina is a terrible organization.  B. They don’t want to negotiate with his agent for a new contract.

They aren't going to give Tee 30 mil per. But they need to give Bryce Young a chance and Tee helps there compared to taking a rookie WR. Those have a high bust rate and even the ones who succeed usually take 2 or 3 years to get going.

Alternatively, the Bengals could ask for a player in the trade, say Derrick Brown. Likewise with other teams.

1st round WRs have probably the lowest bust rate of any position and tend to be more plug and play than any other offensive position.

The issue with Higgins it is far more complex than a single trade. The new team would need to negotiate a long term deal first before giving away draft choices on a one year deal and the hope they could resign him later.

If a player currently under contract demands a trade and his current team is willing to move him for the right compensation, they'll give his agent permission to speak with other teams and tell him what they expect back. The agent will then find a team willing to both pay the old team and the player.

In Tee's case, he's already a free agent and can speak with any other team in the league. If they want to acquire him without giving up 2 first round picks, they can call the Bengals directly to see what Cincinnati will take for Higgins.

He is an unrestricted free agent who got the non-exclusive tag. The Bengals could have prevented him from negotiating with other teams via the exclusive franchise tag but it costs more. It's only rarely used, I think the last time was Drew Brees.

Hmm..I did not know there were two different kind of franchise tags.

its funny this is even news, but with how lazy all aspects of the media are nowadays its expected.

both sides pretending, tee didnt request a damn thing, he agent releases the info, and the bengals dont comment on that shit and never have. bengals never overpay, and tee has absolutely zero leverage.

he gonna sit out and miss 1.2 million a week paycheck? lol ok.

if someone comes offering a good price we can trade. if not he will play. and ya know what? we can tag his ass again next year and STILL be below his asking price. whatever the opposite of leverage is, is what tee higgins has.

After seeing some of the contracts flying around this FA, I'd be ok with the double tag for sure

You and I would not be “happy” with $45-$47 Bills in less than two years?

He will be also. The theatre of it all…and the media eats it hook/line/sinker. And then John Q Fan eats it.

As soon as all of this Jefferson bollocks is concluded, everyone can settle down and realize that Tee will be here in 2024, and he will play to max abilities.

Debatable.

There's Allways a trade looming.

Yep.

That agent is an  unwelcoming figure in contract issues.

That is true but there is no way the Bengals are giving up Higgins for nothing and I never said anything about two FIRST round picks.  That is never going to happen.

Again,  the new team has to get a long term deal in place to Higgins liking before they approach the Bengals regardless.  It’s a lot of moving parts.  These things are hard when you are negotiating with two groups at the same time.

Truth is this may be the best chance for the Bengals to make a deep playoff run for awhile. Burrow PLUS Chase’s assumed contract is going to make it more difficult to fill out the roster after this year.

As I have said many times: each season is its own universe. You have the present—that’s it. Make hay while the sun shines.

(BTW: Liverpool is in a great position to win 4 separate Cups this season. They have no guarantees after this one. THAT would be making hay while the sun shines!)

Yep just like United was going to keep winning all those cups after 1999 with all of those in their prime players.  Didn’t happen.

That's not how the Bengals operate.  They are always considering future seasons with every move.  Unlike some teams, this team will not mortgage the future.

The 2 first round picks is the required compensation under the CBA if a team declines to match the offer a franchise tagged player gets from another team. The last time a team signed another team's player against their will and paid 2 firsts was about 25 years ago for Sean Gilbert (uncle of Darrelle Revis).

A tag and trade is the scenario where a franchised player changes teams for less than 2 firsts, ie Davante Adams. That's what would be in play for Tee if the Bengals are willing to move him for picks or a player. He'd agree to a new contract with some team but not sign one with them. He'd sign his tender from the Bengals, which puts him under contract here and thus makes him tradeable. The trade happens, and he then signs the contract he agreed to with his new team before July 15.

Exactly.  That is what I was trying to say, you just got better writing and shit.  The 2 firsts was basically the owners’ way of preventing a tagged player from controlling his own destiny.

Several teams with cap space and a receiver need are kicking themselves for not giving up a 4th for Keenan Allen. That might create some willingness for a team like the Patriots or Panthers or maybe even still the Titans to offer a high second round pick for Tee.

An idea I'm goofing on is keep him until the trade deadline and trade him then to someone desperate a

top one wide out to make a playoff run and will overpay to get him.

We get a big chunk of the season out of him and a hopefully first rounder in next year's draft to replace him

to boot.
