If they are trying to get this done, it feels like it is going to be:

1)  Someone they have brought in (If they liked one of these dudes...seems like this would happen fast) OR

2) Unemployed NFL dude - (I think this would happen fast if they had someone they liked) OR

3)  Someone in the Playoffs that doesn't want to be distracted OR

4)  Someone that coached last night or tonight OR

5) Internal hire - I think this would happen fast as well if they had someone they liked

I believe they do not have to announce visits by college coaches, but they do with the NFL. No new visits have been accounced and there has been no kind of update.

I think it is #4.

Do they have to announce interviews at all?

I assume that's agents and trying to create a buzz

What weird stuff?

LOL LOL LOL *personal insult*

without responding to what it is about the post (not the poster) that is

so laughable.  It is comment, opinion or wise crack joke.

My comment was "how does he know" (who the new DC is).

A 7th round rookie.

Fuck it... time to move on.

There's golf to play and snow to shovel and all of that.

I didnt post any of that,

When it was first announced that Lou was getting canned there was speculation that this was going to be a coveted job because of Burrow and the offense. D couches all over the league would be beating a path to Zac's door begging for the job.  Anyone heard anything about this? FWIW, I kind of agree with that.

Dehner has said that it's the most coveted job in the league and that's why he expressed that he was surprised we weren't going after bigger names.

1. Your offense will be great

2. You get to be the head coach of the entire defense

3. You are likely to be considered for head jobs if you do well.

Negatives are probably talent and pay

Is it talent or is it scheme? FFS they couldn't tackle for shit all year and that's coaching. I vaguely remember reading that the main reason Murphy is playing crap is that coaching had him gain weight. which cost him.

Eberflus is an Ohio guy from Whitmer in Toledo,

He played LB and Toledo and then coached there for 8 years

Then he was DC @ Missouri for 8 years before jumping to the Browns as LBs coach

As colts DC he took them from 30th to 10th-per Dehner

Or they might just be worried about Rooney Rule compliance. Announcing that you've already decided on the white guy isn't a huge motivator for coaches of color to hop on a plane. And it's been pointed to for other teams. See the Patriots and Mike Vrabel.

So, let's say, just spitballing, that it's Eberflus. You still have to make a show of interviewing three candidates. So, imagine, you haven't interviewed anybody yet, and some 7th rounder is like "Hey the Bengals have already decided on Matt Eberflus!"

"Ummm, hell no we haven't!"

The question for MW was directly about me as he quoted me, you answered by quoting me, and I misinterpreted that. Ok.

Eberflus seems to run a basic Cover 2 defensive scheme out of a standard 4-3. Considered a much simpler version than Anarumo's version when he was in full "Mad Scientist" mode. Eberflus does have a good reputation for developing young talent quickly though.

I asked a friend of mine who’s a Bears fan his thoughts on Eberflus. His response was “Not much.” He thought he was too indecisive.
