Palmer Done for the Season

Recommended Posts

So Palmer is done for the season. I hinted towards it yesterday, got confirmation this morning.

Although this sucks for many reasons, at least it can end the cycle of 8-8's and 7-9's, which can leave team's in mediocrity for many years.

Instead, we can restock with high picks in every round (similar to what we did when we drafted Palmer) and build around an already primarily young core. If the same coaching staff remains in place (usually the mistake made with franchises in our situation is "blowing it all up") I really think we will see a complete turnaround next season and make a playoff run ... assuming Palmer is fully recovered.

The #1 overall pick is actually a nightmare. Whever it is will immediately become one of the highest paid players in the league. It is just too big of a risk to give any rookie the kind of moaney that the #1 guy gets. So if we do get the #1 late's all pray that some team will trade with us to get out of that slot.

Do you really want Palmer and his receivers attempting to learn a new system, while he is rehabbing? You thought the timing was off at the start of this season????

Dan,

Is he hanging it up to get surgery? Or just to rehab to PREVENT surgery?

Marvin has said that Jordan Palmer "isn't as far along" as Fitzpatrick when asked if we'd see him play.

Can Jordan posibly be any worse than Fitzpatrick at this point? With the season truly lost, why don't we start getting some of our minor leaguers in there and just see what they can do in a real game?

he came back from a serious knee injury in January and was ready by week 1

I'd sure hope an elbow injury that hasn't been billed as THAT serious would keep him out part of NEXT season

seems crazy

and coaching wise, a new coaching staff might mean Zimmer being gone which would suck cause he's really made solid improvements in a very short time. If we can increase the actual talent and as younger guys get this year under there belt, he can really have this defense playing great in a year or 2

Absolutley. The offense is stale, has been stale and will continue to be stale. Carson isn't going to work with CJ or TJ this offseason anyway. They need a change, a complete overhaul even at the cost of precious timing. A new set of eyes could completely alter the way Carson, CJ, Simpson or the OL entirely play the game and thats what they need.

The team needs to stop grasping at the 2005 straws and stop trying to fit what has become a square block into the traingle hole. Carson needs help selling the PA fake, the OL needs new ideas on how to pick up the blitz (not to mention new personel), the WRs need new routes the whole thing needs to change.

It would be nice if it came down to "hey once Carson gets healthy and can work with his WRs in the offseason and we get 2-3 new guys along the OL, and a new RB we MIGHT BE ABLE TO CAPTURE THAT 05 FORM...but thats the past, its time to move on, I can't believe anyone would want to just stick with "whats been working" nothing has been working. We can even throw the fucking ball 40 yards downfield. Every other team in the league can throw a 40 yard pass but for some reason on every single offensive snap we've played the other team has deep saftey coverage? Where the fuck is the open TE in the middle? Where is CJ lining up in the slot and getting to the post. This offense is a joke and has been a joke for well over a year and half. New eyes are a must, if we are going to get anything else out of Carson Palmer before we've wasted his career entirely.

Sounds like its the Tommy John route and that makes me really, really nervous.

But we all saw how strong and fast he came back from his last surgery so hopefully that will translate.

And i also have a feeling there will be a change of scenery in the coaching department. I'm assuming Brat might be gone and Alexander may well be going with him. I just feel that way since we haven't been doing well on the offensive side of the ball since the explosive 2005 season.

And i hope we do our homework on our pick. I would hope a few more scouts would come in to help, but i don't know if that would help since the college season is close to mid-point. Either way i hope we can get a couple quality guys.

Edit: I saw in the other thread he is likely to avoid Tommy John. Cool. Hopefully that elbow is good to go next year. It's worth 118 million.

i just looked at the schedue again.

And with this news i seriously think were an 0-16 team.

I dont think we will win AT houston.
I dont think we beat baltimore.
i dont think we beat Browns.

I think were 0-15 going coming back to cincy to finish the season VS KC.

And that will be a coin toss.

Fucking pathetic.

Sad but true...I saw Cleveland move Edwards around a lot last night putting him in a position to have favorable match-ups. I can honestly say I dont see us do that with TJ or CJ

Yup. This team has so much talent and yet they can't play like a team and the ownership doesn't know how to control it. It's more than pathetic. T.J. will be gone unfortunately and probably so will Chad. Great.

Agreed. Brat was brought in to bring in a Spread offense and get away with typical insider WCO that had been here forever.

Marvin has said he wants a more physical team. It's clear that plan is not lining up to the way this team was built.

Fresh start on offense and start getting an offensive guy that matches what his head coach truly wants. Then let that offensive mindset trickel down to how you build your roster, prepare offseason, gameplan, practice, then play call.

Shut the fuck up, really. No wins. What the fuck is your problem? We have hung in almost every game. A couple will break our way. Pathetic. Sure, they're no good, but they're not historically awful.

This is an bad "team" but they can win a few football games. They get looked over once, there'll be the KC game, and there'll probably be a playoff related stater's bye week late in the season.

Not saying I don't believe him, but I need a more credible source than a board poster before I prepare myself for all Fitz, all the time.
If you figure out a way to do that, please let me know!

I agree that you really don't want the number 1 pick, or even the top 3 picks for that matter due to the money involved at those levels.

However, there is no way we end up with the #1 pick. I still see us with more wins that a few other teams at least. That of course assumes that the team doesn't just mentally pack it in for the year. This will definitely be a test of the teams character, but I say they play competitively the rest of the year and pick up a few wins along the way.

Just my opionion, but Dan has always struck me as one of the more intelligent and better informed posters around here.

Kinda like our own Go-Bengals.com Adam Schefter.

Since he lives so close to NYC and the specialist Palmer visited, maybe he knows somebody who knows somebody.

If Dan says he got confirmation, I'm more than inclined to believe him. It's not like he has made outrageous claims before.
