With Tomlinson and Westbrook being released it seems like all the speculation of where they would go and who'd need them is all over the news
There's even talk of JJ Arrington and Chester Taylor ...Reggie Bush leaving the Saints

But no one seems to have Larry Johnson on their radar

Is there ANY chance we could get him for one more year? I'd Adore that.

Bringing LJ back would be a wonderful thing.

I would have to think his "role" here would be more PT than he might get somewhere else. Having him from the start of the season would give Ced more off plays/series...thus keeping him fresher. BScott...while I really like his play...is more situational than anything. And Leonard has his niche on 3rd downs.

LJ can fit and fit well here. We carried 5 RB's last year...why not this season--especially if the "run-first" format continues?

I would like to keep him not just as insurance for Ced (the next Rudi...) but to see him used more.

He is similar to Chris Henry in that I question why he was not used more than he was.
Change of pace, something new to look at and a new wrinkle... but thinking outside the box is not
something Brat is very good at.
Why is that tool still here?

In the wake of LaDainian Tomlinson being released by the Chargers, let's not forget that LJ's best game of 2009 (22 carries for 107 yards) was better than LT's best game of 2009 (24 carries for 96 yards). Apparently, LJ still has some on-field value. The Bengals acquired LJ mid-season after he tweeted his way out of Kansas City, and he suited up for the final seven weeks of the season before tendinitis in his knee kept him out of the playoff loss to the New York Jets. It'll be interesting to see whether the Bengals bother to re-sign him, seeing as he was more of a Cedric Benson insurance policy than anything else during the charge to the playoffs. Reedy recently noted that Johnson is not expected to be back, which makes us wonder where he might end up.

One possibility is the Lions, who are looking for a full-time back while Kevin Smith recuperates. Other teams looking for a first- and second-down power rusher include the Chargers and Texans, and Jeff Dickerson of ESPNChicago included him on his list of players at whom the Bears might take a look this offseason.

a part of me wonders if the Bengals didn't play him much to drive down his value in hopes of resigning him. I don't think we need him, but his (lack) of playing time was curious at best.

So was Bernard scotts...

It's kind of hard to play LJ and scott, when you got your starting RB averaging 10yds a carry in the playoffs.

The Bengals need to protect Cedric by not running him into the ground this coming season. I think LJ and Scott would help keep Cedric fresh and ready for the playoffs this coming season.

I don't expect LJ back w/ the Bengals this year. I think he wants a shot at being a feature back again and it's clear Cedric is the #1 here. I wouldn't be opposed to it, I like having a stable of backs but I also want to see B.Scott on the field quite a bit more this season.

even before then though. Benson missed 3 games. In those 3 games, LJ had 33 carries, 22 of which came against cleveland.

I wasn't that impressed with Larry while he was with us.. He had a good game.. But he looked slow to the hole and wasn't exactly punishing tacklers like he used to.

People complain about him not playing more when he couldn't even make it through the few carries he got without missing the playoff game with tendinitis of the knee?

He's done. Move on.

I don't think there's any chance we keep LJ - B Scott and Leonard are locks behind Ced - if we need an insurance back, it'll be someone that we stash on the practice squad like James Johnson.

Count me into the group that wasn't too impressed with Larry. He looked tentative hitting the hole..he didn't really have breakaway speed, and he was just slightly better than he was with KC.

I think it was great we took a flyer, and he was pretty damn good against Cleveland, but we could probably upgrade in the draft with a big bowling ball kind of guy like Shonn Greene for short yardage situations. Someone like LeGarrete Blount (sp?) or Staffon Johnson, if we don't think Brian Leonard will turn into a short-yardage guy. I wouldn't be pissed about C.J. Spiller or Jahvid Best either if they were in the right spots.

Bobo the clown OC has never shown the ability to split the carries properly even though he's always had players who could do it. Barring injuries it a'int gonna matter who the other guy is cause he'll run the wheels off of Cedy just as he did Rudi. Brat is a putz!!

LJ showed decent power with us. He might do ok in a place like Cleveland, where they have fast guys and need a guy for the power runs to offset that. He probably has a couple of years of light duty left before he's useless. Actually Baltimore is another team that needs a power back.

Won't get a lot of money though.

Benson had 300 carries. thats not that much for a season..

only once the entire year did he have 20+ carries two games in a row,

how is that running the wheels off exactly???

and rudi had 1500 carries in 6 years in the league...

250 per season average.. and lets be honest.. rudi was only worth a damn due to the oline and passing game... and majority of his running was to close out games..

always had the players to do it eh? rudi and dillon could have, and basically did.. after that rudi and who? watson? BAHAHAHAHA perry was hurt forever... larry johnson came to the team mid year, is old, he had 416 carries in his only year starting all 16 games for KC... now THAT is running the fucking wheels off.. and he is now over 30...

so we had perfectly good guys to split carries with over 30 wheels already been run off added to team mid season larry johnson and 6th round from tiny school adjusting to nfl, then injured knee mid year bernard scott?

benson got some weeks off and scott and johnson carried the loads well..

and still.... 40% of the rushing plays were handled by someone other than Benson...

40%!!!! if you take away palmers runs, some were planned, sneaks, and such but some were not planned, so feel free to take those out.. lets split them eh?

36% of the runs were NOT handled by Cedric benson.

and same as carries, roughly 35% of the rushing yards were gained by NOT Cedric Benson.

please tell me how thats running the wheels off?

Benson is by far our best back, and we had no time to throw, scott could do nothing up the middle, and johnson was limited in offensive plays he learned and could run,

he wasnt over worked, you can barely even argue that he was heavily worked.

id say LJ is good for 100 carries a year 150 tops. but he seems like a guy who needs the carries to get going. he was really only impressive in the game he played the whole game.. when we were resting benson with he hip thing...

but i agree baltimore MAY use him but they have mcclain who does there power running.. cleveland seems dumb enough to sign him up like jamal lewis.... but if they work him like they did jamal he will get hurt and broken too... LJ has a bad history of being hurt.. playing 1 full season starting his whole career and only a few full years getting snaps in most games..

hard to say whats left in some guys tanks...
