I work a couple of blocks from the Pentagon. Building had minor shake and then a violent longer one. We evacuated the building. Building fire escape stairwells now have cracks in the concrete. Got word a water main broke at the Pentagon. But no injuries reported.

Most people heading home. Metr train inching along at 5 MPH

Colorado had one this morning in the 5.3 range. 5.8 is a lot bigger though, interesting. didn't feel a thing here in Cincy.

I work in downtown Cincy on the 20th floor, we sure as hell felt it. Stuff was shaking and I thought I was screwed, there's nowhere to go this high up.

It scared the crap out of my daughter (her words) who just moved to Philadelphia this weekend. So she called her mom who works on the 25th floor in downtown Cincinnati. While they're talking, my wife starts to see her chair shake. At first she thought she was just imagining it, but then someone else in the office jumped up and yelled, "did you feel that?"

LMAO. The Japanese must think we are complete pussies at this point. The cable outlets have spent the last 6 hours looking for someone who might have gotten hurt.

...similarly, a couple days after the Joplin tornado the local news was showing damage from storms that when through this area (Cincy)...showing a tree that had blown onto a garage and similar other damage. Kinda embarrassing.

Actually, a 5.8 is nothing to laugh at. I've been in similar, and stronger ones, and know from first hand experience that it can scare the shit right out of you. If you're at all interested in a little read check this out. It describes the Japanese scale for quakes and the difference between magnitude and what the Japanese call "shindo" For example a quake could have a magnitude of 5.8 but a shindo of 3 and it wouldn't be that bad. But a 5.8 with a shindo of 6 would rock your ass off. Like I said, if you're interested give it a look.

The funny thing is, to me, that this doesn't show that there was a strong quake, it shows that that building wasn't built very well. So little damage from this quake and then you have that entire side of that roof fall off like that? I'd sue the company that built the building.
