He had less time than a rookie to learn the playbook. He was traded after the draft.

Regardless, it's unreasonable for anyone to expect him to know NE's full playbook in less than 2 months.

Yes but this doesnt fit with my teeth gnashing about a former bengal wanting out.

Remember there was a lockout? Rookies didn't have access to the playbooks... They had probably 3 days on him..

Chad is the one that needs to get his "mind right"

A 9 route is a 9 route... And if a rookie can come in and learn a playbook in that short time, why can't a 10 yr pro/ All-pro? Obviously it's not enough time for hI'm to be a positive piece of this team at this stage of the season...

Dude this isn't a jr high system where he has to learn 32 Base or some rudimentary playbook. This is the NFL.

The schemes are very complex, it's not all about "get in there and run a 9 route". Yeah, they could have forced one play for him but they have the luxury of bringing him along as he masters the offense. It's not like they're hurting at WR now and need to force him onto the field ASAP.

Look at all of the line calls Brady was making. Ocho would be useless out there unless he knew WTF Brady was doing. There are so many reads to make in an NFL offense, especially that one.

Chad had been trying to learn the playbook of the best NFL organization on the planet in 2 months. It is NOT that easy. Also, why would anyone think Chad was going to light it up in New England anyways? No NE receiver had over 900 yards last season, thats why they are so good. Brady just finds the weak spot and they exploit it. It is never about getting a guy his catches there.

The Patriots saw something early and they totally abused the Dolphins. The Fins were sitting back in coverage trying to avoid getting beat deep and Brady just kept throwing passes to the slot and TEs. Chad actually was a good decoy when he was in.

Last year we would have kept forcing the ball to TO and Chad to keep them happy.

I would wait a few games before I write Chad off. Right now the Chargers are trying to put together a defense that will shut down Welker and the TEs and that can only open up the mid range downfield stuff for Ocho and Branch.

So the Patriots rookies weren't able to have one of the existing Patriots players email them a .PDF of the Patriots playbook?

Really? How could their two rookie tight ends be such huge contributors last year?

IT'S BEEN ONE GAME, FELLA! Let's look back at the end of the year and see where Ochocinco is then.

He'll be a year older and slower. Big deal.

Chad is a shell of his former self. Time to cut up your #85 jerseys and use them to dry your dishes, wash your car, or dry your tears of Ochocinco. He stinks now.

It's cool that you can evaluate talent better than Bill Bellichek.

Wow, enough with the he hasn't had time speech. When did we get TO last year 3 weeks into training camp and he was ready week one and there's a thousand other examples like our very own Andy Dalton who probably had 3 days on chad is running our whole offense not just worrying about one position like Chad. Chad as always had this problem it should be a surprise to no Bengal fan.

A few personality traits that I believe don't bode well for Chad in NE:

- He's getting older and slower
- He's selfish
- He's overly concerned with promoting himself and his "brand"
- He's not very intelligent

I firmly believe that Chad would rather have a 200 yd game and a loss, than a no catch win. His "brand" is all about being "relevant" and getting pub. That is why I believe he even sits next to Brady every time on the bench (watch this next game) - to get the face time on TV. He is a publicity whore - Kim Kardashian in football pads. If he could host a reality show called "Watch Ocho Sleep" where it was a live feed of him snoring, he would do it.

The Pschoanalyst in me would say it is about Chad seeking attention to make up for the fact that his parents weren't around growing up (raised by Gma).

One noticeable difference on offense Sunday compared to past years was the uptempo pace out of the huddle. RB Cedric Benson inferred that the departure of WRs Chad Ochocinco and Terrell Owens expedited the process. “You had some challenges out on the edges you had to deal with,” he said with a laugh. “You don’t got those no more.”

When asked about the differences between last year’s offense and this one, especially when it comes to getting out of the huddle earlier, Cedric Benson pointed out one reason.

“Because you had some challenges out on the edges you had to deal with,” Benson said. “You don’t have those anymore. Guys line up and generally know what they need to do and what the task is on each play.”

Left tackle Andrew Whitworth added some to the comments when he was asked if losing big-name players ended up being better.

“Sad to say, as much as I love you guys, sometimes stars are born from y’all, not necessarily success on the football field,” Whitworth said. “Some guys run their mouths a lot or say a lot of things so they get a lot of attention. It doesn’t mean they always play football the way it is supposed to be played. Things like that happen. People start to believe or really have an opinion of a guy that may not necessarily be true, but at the end of the day when you are a football team and guys compete that way and go out on the football field together, you have a chance to win. And that is the key thing. We have a football team right now and there is not one guy in this locker room I would trade for anybody in the world and every time we go on the field we are all in and we are playing together.”

Benson did add one other note on why there is more of a crispness out of the huddle, saying: “I just think they’re just getting it in faster. I’m sure Jay knows what he wants to call before the whistle is blown on the (previous) play.”
