Report: Dontay Moch suspended four games, pending appeal

Bengals linebacker Dontay Moch, a much-hyped third-round pick in the 2011 draft, suffered a foot injury in training camp and ultimately didn’t play at all during his rookie season.
His debut could be delayed by at least 25 percent of the 2012 season.

Jason La Canfora of CBS reports via Twitter that Moch has been suspended four games for using a banned substance. The suspension reportedly is “pending appeal,” which means that the internal appeal process has not yet concluded.

The fact that appeal process has not concluded means that, unless Moch or his agent chose to disclose the situation, someone subject to a fine of up to $500,000 blabbed about something that should have remained confidential, given the possibility that the appeal process will wipe out the suspension entirely.

Can we give the Burflict hate a break? He was special enough to be a 1st team all American as a sophomore.

Just like Andy Katzenmoyer. We all saw how much he did in NFL. Please stop using college accolades for any idea what players will do in the pros.

The fact that he peaked in sophomore year and then sucked after that bodes very poorly.

At least he had a peak as a player, unlike moch.

Moch won't be cut because he can be put on the exempt list during his suspension. DeQuin Evans seems like the beneficiary if he's still considered a linebacker. Both he and Moch are primarily edge rushers.[s]If[/s] they now consider Evans a DE, [s]then[/s] Muckelroy is [s]probably[/s] the backup at SLB and Rey [s]or[/s] and Burfict make[s]s[/s] the roster.

Shut the fuck up. James Harrison got cut twice and spent 3 years on the practice squad. We can all pick people out to fit our agenda. Hell, I heard you were good on fries at Burger King, but they had to move you back to being the mop specialist at McDonalds.

Funny that you use an example to fit your argument (Vontaze being an All American as a sophomore), but you chastise him for pointing that out and using an example of a similar situation that didn't work out... only in Katzenmoyer's case, he actually played consistently well as a college player and was a #1 pick.

We all know that All America teams are popularity contests, voted on by media guys, many of whom have barely seen a guy play. Kinda like draft "experts" who see 10 minutes of YouTube highlights and are ready to create a draft board.

Personally, I think Burfict is way overrated and I'd be surprised if he made the team... but I could be wrong and if I am, I'll be happy to say so. But let's face it... a number of folks (not saying you) have the anointing oil out on Burfict, and he hasn't done shit... yet. For that matter, neither has Moch.

College doesn't always correlate to the pros. To use another Ohio State LB for an example. I went to school with Greg Bellisari who started all 4 years at Ohio State. He gained all kinds of accolades while at Ohio State but never did anything in the pros. It happens all the time. We can always hope that the Bengals get that diamond in the rough though.

It's nice to read thoughts and ideas of well-spoken adults.

"Well" modifies spoken, so it gets a hyphen. We don't need two Jamie_B's here, dude.

Further to your assertion: I believe Hagin88 makes Lewdog's words look like Shakespeare's.

Did you even read the rest of my post, or are you just going off the out off context pull by haggis? I fully understand that playing well in college isn't the sole indicator of how well you'll do in the NFL, but tell me, how many guys that absolutely sucked in college are on NFL teams? I would dare say none. If you don't perform in college, you don't get a look at all. My comment is that he's a no risk look at a guy that some people thought, even after the end of his junior season, we should draft in the first round. There is talent there, if we can harness it, Great, if not, no loss.

Katzenmoyer had a very good rookie year with New England and proved he could play at the next level. He got hurt (neck) and re injured it again his second year. I don't blame a guy from walking away from football with a bad neck ala David Pollack.

Yes, I read your post. And I understand that guys who don't perform in college don't get any looks as pro prospects, and your point about Burfict being no risk. Of course... I get it.

My point to you (and the other poster's point, as well) was, there are lots of guys who garner All Star attention in college who do nothing as professionals. You called bullshit on the example, where he pointed out a situation where being an All Star in college didn't pan out. It's not cherry picking... it happens every year, in every sport. All I was saying.

We will see how Burfict does. He had enough talent to get a UDFA contract, so maybe he has something. I'm not optimistic, but as you said, if it doesn't work out, no great loss.

Dontay Moch says he has seen reports that he's been suspended, but has not heard anything from the NFL.
