Well shit.   I could be encouraged, discouraged, or indifferent based on this news.   What the fuck?

 that's fucking funny

Reedy is just plain awful.. I am not exaggerating when I say I think he is the worst "journalist" I have ever seen.

If that were true he'd be working at FoxNews already.

As for DT, I'd like to see what Still and Thompson can do with more snaps. They were high enough picks to expect production. Therefore, I wouldn't want to reach on a DT in the draft. Would be open to grab a DE if BPA in later rounds.

Still, Thompson and Sims create a quandary.  You don't need that many DTs on the roster (with Peko and Atkins as well).  Sims is a free agent, but when he plays our run D is consistently better.  Could we trade one of the kids?  Do we keep all 3?

The Bengals defensive line, the unquestioned strength of Cincinnati's back-to-back playoff teams, is coming back all but intact for 2013 with a NFL source saying Tuesday that veteran left end Robert Geathers has agreed to a contract.

With free agency set to begin at 4 p.m., the Bengals are efforting to re-sign right tackle Andre Smith as well as two of their top three cornerbacks inTerence Newman and Adam Jones. Even as Smith hit the free-agent market Tuesday, all indications are the Bengals are still going to try and re-sign him as they attempt to bring back as many starters and regulars as they can from the team that has been to the playoffs the last two years.

What is believed to be a three-year deal for Geathers takes them into this season with their six most used defensive linemen from last season in a rotation that was the hub of the NFL's seventh-best defense.

They are also believed to be "kicking the tires," on outside free agents not viewed as big-ticket items when it comes to running backs, outside linebackers and backup quarterbacks and figure to have them in for physicals and/or tryouts.

But the bulk of their money is reserved for their own players and the Geathers deal puts them at about $26 million against the 2013  salary cap in deals for their free agents starting with the March 1 franchising of right endMichael Johnson.

That gives them about $14 million more to spend in cap dollars as free agency and much of it is earmarked for Smith as well as making room for Newman, Jones and some others like defensive tackle Pat Sims, the run-stuffing specialist and seventh man in the D-line rotation as far as play time.

This^^^

I also agree with you that they could trade either Still or Thompson and get an extra draft pick say.  If they get the original 2nd or at least a 3rd for Still (say) that would really open up the draft for us.  I actually prefer Thompson to Still anyway, I think he will be another Pat Sims type we obviously need imo.

I only REALLY want Adam Jones, Howard, and Andre back.. Everyone else, is icing......  From the CB perspective i would like to see them develop Prater and Dre.

I thought we had Howard locked up until next year.... didn't realize he was still out there... but i'd love to have Adam James and Andre back... however.. i don't think Andre will come our way... a RT already went for almost 8 mil a year.

The good thing is, they have 2 "Possibles" in A.C. and Wharton, so maybe they're using that as a back up plan...

Gilberry says being recognized as a good player in the league is a priority. "It's not about the money for me, it's about the recognition."

Jason La Canfora‏@JasonLaCanfora
Robert Geathers deal with the Bengals is 3 yrs, worth $9.5M

a little higher than I would have gone, but not aful.

Gilberry - who is coming back on a three-year contract: "We have what it takes to get to where we want to be."

  1. One more Gilberry: "Sometimes you're overpaid, sometimes you're underpaid, but to be recognized is a priority."
